Blue Spiral 1 is another Asheville institution that we can't help but return to. From paintings to pottery to giant spoon sculptures, the gallery has a wide representation of styles and media. Recent exhibitions made use of recycled skateboards and explored the history of tattoos, both of which we found fascinating. Despite its fine arts pedigree (and pricing to match), Blue Spiral isn't stuffy, and staff won't give you the stink eye if you're just there to browse. read more

We were visiting Asheville and had plans to visit the art museum, but unfortunately it was closed on Tuesdays. After a quick internet search, we found Blue Spiral 1. What a wonderful experience! From the soothing music to the beautiful art work, it was a nice way to spend an afternoon with family. This gallery has three floors, so it is more than just a quick in and out. One of my favorite artists, was a gentleman who created art using recycled skateboards. I also really liked the blown glass and the pieces made from wood with the added hints of color. read more

It is 4.5 stars in my book not yet 5 stars. It is excellent gallery in Asheville. It has many collection of the local artist. The visit may be take an hour to finish. Parking is street side. The gallery has three floors. Many interesting art pieces. One of the piece I saw that day is the Ted Lott artist use the old luggage transform to little miniature room. A Robert Burch blow glass has good imagination of hammer attach to glass bubble and nail inside of the bubble on the other side. Another artist Hannah Skoonberg photo wrap white linen with human and photo. I think this is unique. Artist Janet Brown use the wiremesh create an 3D birds on display. Overall, the artists here is creative. It worth to spend time to see all display. Don't forget use the pull out to see more art pieces at third floor. read more

I like art museums, but private galleries are often very hit-or-miss with me. As they have rotating displays, my reaction is highly dependent on what is on display when I show up. That said, I was not that taken with this place. None of the artists on display (in October, 2019) resonated with me. We strolled through and looked at all the exhibits (spread over 3 levels) but didn't linger that long and certainly never considered buying anything. The gallery is convenient to downtown but parking nearby is likely only in a pay-lot. If you are staying in a hotel, it may be walk-able. I don't regret stopping in, but I doubt I'd return if I went back to Asheville. read more

One of the best art galleries in Asheville, this three story gallery space is filled with contemporary art, local and afar. They are filled with beautiful, thought-provoking, decorative, modern art. This is a great place to wander through when looking for some creative inspiration. I often stop by and do a quick walk through when I'm just wasting time wandering around downtown. They are located on Biltmore Ave in the heart of downtown, near the Fine Arts Theater and Wicked Weed. Blue Spiral has awesome art openings too, these are always a joy to go to, to be surrounded by artists and art-lovers while enjoying wine and light snacks. The staff here is always very welcoming and knowledgable. I really appreciate the fact that I am obviously not in there to buy anything, they still are friendly and will answer any questions about the art and artists. Yes, this art is for sale, but it is also a gallery space to just look at and enjoy the beautiful artwork. read more

This is a very large gallery on three levels that features interesting modern art. Some of it can be quite unusual, but it's always worth stopping in to take a look. During our recent visit they were in the process of setting up a new exhibit, so not all of the space was open. The prices are a little on the higher end, but even if you can't afford to purchase it, you can enjoy viewing it. The location is very central to downtown so when you're walking around, pop in here to see some interesting artwork. read more

My favorite &, in my humble opinion, the BEST gallery in Asheville, NC. This is a fine art/craft gallery that really makes it moot to distinguish between the 2 since it showcases both in such a seamless way as to suggest one cannot be fully appreciated without the other. A huge space, you could spend a couple hours moving through the thoughtful galleries & talking with the friendly staff. I was fortunate to visit during Lisa Clague's exhibition. I am always excited to see ceramic art on display but to see the educated eye that Blue Spiral offers to this medium is doubly rewarding. Kudos, Blue Spiral! We will be moving from the Washington, DC area to Hendersonville, NC, and had heard that Asheville's Art Museum wouldn't be redone for, maybe years! We "discovered" Blue Spiral 1 for ourselves, and were thrilled! It looks and feels like the finest of museum collections and spaces! The interior architecture and curating are fully of modern museum quality. What a find we made!! read more

I'm an art lover and collector. But I don't "look" (whatever that means) the part. I was EXTREMELY put off by the rudeness of the staff at this "high brow" gallery. You missed out on a several thousand dollar or more sale as a result of your snotty attitude. I'm marking this off my list of locations to find artworks. And I'll spread the word. read more
