Wish I Could give zero stars... Situation, blue star has been texting me for over a week to book an appointment before the holiday. CRM system on overdrive....i book an appointment for Wednesday 10:00 am, day before Thanksgiving. They clearly get the need for a "touch up" before the holidays. Tuesday arrives, I have the email reminders of the appointment, etc.. blowing me up, warning me of a late cancel and that I'd still be obligated to compensate them. Then, I get a 6 pm call...your stylist has had an emergency, won't be at work, appointment cancelled. Now, in fairness, they did call me - that's better than just finding out tomorrow, right? But, in fairness, did they even try to solve the problem? They did try to solve the problem by....oh yeah, they didn't do anything. They "solved" the problem by cancelling and giving me a different salons phone number - that's 30 min further. No appointment guarantee, no assessment of stylist...just go cold call this other place. They could have; 1) had a manager call me instead of the poor counter person, 2) trouble shooting this before the call, offer solutions, 3) pay someone off duty double time or more to fill in, 4) find another way, or my job to tell them. They chose not to. This business, and I'm putting this on the business owner not the stylists/employees, chose to screw me. They could have solved this problem, they chose to make it my problem. They chose to spend the money to recruit me, then chose not to spend the money to take care of me. This is why I will NEVER return. This owner does not care at all about their customers or the experience - take it as a warning. DO NOT BOOK AN APPT HERE - because if anything goes wrong, they will not take care of you. Asked for a trim cleanup, and very little off the top. My barber ends up cutting 60% of my hair off and making me look like an absolute bafoon. They have one haircut that they use for everyone, without considering what the person asked. Felt very rushed too. read more

I am amazed at the number of comments complaining about how their signage says, "walk ins welcome," yet the person was not able to be served. Dont people realize that in a primarily appointment-based business, they will TRY to accommodate someone just walking in, but there are no guarantees! The "walk ins welcome" sign simply means that if there is an available spot, you may be able to get served right then. But no garantee. The obvious answer to this, instead of slamming them with a bad review, is to either keep walking in and taking your chances, or better yet, make an appointment next time, or seek out a barber shop that is "walk in only." read more

I was impressed with the service the first time we visited. For the second time, I called to make an appointment and was told to call later because "the schedule wasn't ready". Called the next day and was told to go as a walk in because "they were no longer taking appointments", and to go in the morning as it was "less busy". Woke my elderly father early, got to the barbershop shortly after 10am, and was told they were "already booked". Wasted a morning and bothered my father for nothing because the person at the counter didn't even care to check with the stylists to see if they could take a walk-in. These people can't make up their minds. Unless you have plenty of time to waste, stay away from this place. read more

I'm very out of sorts in a barber shop since I go to a traditional salon for my own hair. However, my 7 year old son was ready to graduate from Cookie Cutters for kids to a more "grown up" hair cut experience. I tried Blue Star on a whim since I'd noticed it driving by and could book online. The stylist Jacqui was very patient with us since I don't really know any of the men's haircut lingo. She explained what she was doing and gave my son a great experience, including a hot towel! He didn't complain about being itchy afterwards and didn't protest when I suggested that he was due for another haircut. I consider that a win! Beyond rude. Wouldn't consider letting any of them anywhere near my hair. The website clear states "WALK INS ARE WELCOME" but that is false. I've tried calling several times to get my name on the list before heading up, no one ever answers the phones. After several times trying over the course of an hour, I drove up. I waited at the counter at least 10 minutes while the employee was chatting on the phone (a personal call). When she finished, she asked if I had an appointment and when I said no, she said I couldn't get a cut. Tried again a different day and was told "we don't do walk-ins". Then correct the website and don't mislead people. Again, they never answer the phones. They make it so difficult just to get ahold of them only to be so rude. I'm new to the area so I decided to give this place a go. I gave the barber I was scheduled with a very detailed description of what I've had done in the past, along with showing a picture. He couldn't give me the kind of cut I asked for and didn't really make any changes after I gave him feedback at the end of the appointment. I probably won't be back. read more

So this past weekend I was waiting for my new glasses at the Polaris Mall and thought I'd get my haircut. While I'm not too concerned with where I go I still like to look at least decent and Great Clips and places like that scare me but I wasn't sure where else to go. I then remembered my friend saying that there was a cool place by her work and Five Guys so I ventured over that way. Walking into Blue Star I was taken back a bit because it was so nice. White walls with a mural and magazine page "wallpaper" and there was a few animal heads. The guy at the counter was mega nice and took my name. He said there would be a wait and if I wanted to run errands my name would stay on the list. He also pointed out the 2 iMacs sitting in the waiting area that are free to use while waiting and like all hair cutting places there were plenty of magazines and books. The wait wasn't as long as I thought it'd be with there only be 3 girls cutting hair. My name was called and Nora was cutting my hair. She met me and shook my hand (this stood out to me. not enough people shake hands anymore). She asked me what I wanted and I said shorter but have fun. (I say this a lot and most people keep asking what I want when I just want them to cut it and do whatever its only hair) but she said "I like you already". She turned me around and I didn't see my hair until it was done. The haircut was amazing but that's not what stand out about this place. After my hair was cut she shaved my neck with a straight razor with hot lather then put a hot towel on my neck. After the hot towel she used a back massager on my back. I was blown away it was such an amazing surprise. All of that for $19! As I was getting my hair cut I noticed on their board that they have a "World famous Blue Star shave" for $35 so when I went up to pay I asked about it. He said it takes about 30-45 minutes and is 10 steps including a straight razor shave with hot lather with hot towels and other stuff that sounded like a vacation for my face. I will be back for that. I never thought I'd be so blown away but a place that cuts hair but Blue Star did that. Oh did I mention they have match boxes (no cheap books but good matches on a nice box) and magnets? Even though they are a "barbershop" they do men and women's hair. Their website is nice and has each girls schedule on it too so I know when I can go back for Nora. I will be back even living in Clintonville it's worth the trip. read more

Hello, My name is Michael Zuniga. I went to your shop for a haircut today June 7 and had the worst experience with Holly at your Polaris location. This is my second time going to her and I'm appalled at how Holly thought to share her view on Covid 19 with me again. I gave her a chance again but I will not come back to your shop. She clearly doesn't want to wear a mask and complained about having to keep her station sanitized in these times. She told me that the Covid 19 cases are fabricated numbers and she talks to doctors all the time that share this information with her. This was a debate on her foolish views and lack of understanding that she is at work and her views on this matter should be kept to herself. She said she was talking to others in the shop and they support her view. Let's be clear, you cut hair and you debated with me for 15 minutes and didn't cut my hair. Not only did you not do your job you thought sharing your inaccurate views on Covid 19 is appropriate. I work for a corporation and we are taking per-cautions for everyone's safety because it's the right thing to do. She does not believe in that clearly. I have never walked out of getting hair done and will not return. I also have her feedback that her mask was worn incorrectly when she said that it was pointless. Don't bother. Their attempts to be a cool barbershop is nothing but a ruse. They are a Great Clips at best. I went in for an undercut and walked out with what looked like a dead weasel on my head. I ended up going to a great barber (Brass Tacks) in Dallas, TX before my client visit. My first visit to Blue Star will forever be my last. Honestly, just go downtown if you want something with staying power. There are many local barbers that can do so much better than these guys. read more

Nikki went out of her way to correct the mistakes in My haircut from prior trips to different hair dressers. She also explained everything phenomenally and is very passionate about what she does. Some reviews on here bash that it's a 30 minutes haircut and I would rather have someone take their time with my haircut because it looks better when people give an effort and don't just rush you out the door. A few weeks have passed since I was there, but I am still very bitter about my experience here at Bluestar. Worst haircut of my life. The stylist did not listen to me at all. I asked for a trim and to keep the shape of a fauxhawk, but was given a horrible, ugly, laughable and extremely uneven 1987 flat-top??!?! THREE different times the stylist stopped in the middle and brought other employees to "Help Her"? I even noticed the looks the employees were giving each other when she asked for help (with what I later assumed was an attempt to fix her many, many mistakes.) Lots of eye rolls.., No offense but what in the world are you doing cutting hair of you constantly need HELP? If your into looking ridiculous, this is the place for you. I will NEVER go back, it's crystal clear management does not care about the skill level of those they hire and don't care about delivering a quality service. read more

I stopped in the first time to check it out before a Cbusr meetup - and have kept coming back since. It replaced my old favorites (Gina's in Grandview and Jolie Laide on the south side) since I now work in New Albany. All I have to say - it's been an awesome experience everytime. If you're a parent with kids and need multiple people to get cuts don't even consider this place. They have a completely asinine scheduling platform that makes them stack everyone in your group on one barber at 30 minutes per cut. Didn't call ahead walked in but watched as multiple people were slid in front of us. Some had called ahead others not. He even admitted one was because he was just getting a quick neck clean up. How he knew that not sure because he never asked us what we were getting. Best to just stay away and go somewhere that can manage their schedule better. read more

I've been a regular at Blue Star for at least five years and have usually received good service. My usual stylists were McKenzie and Devon, which have always been polite, responsive, and do good work. I had an appointment today, but was delayed a few minutes and was told by a rude skinny receptionist kid that because I was 10 minutes late (was 12 minutes) I would have to reschedule. There was not a wait and stylists, including the one I typically see were talking with other stylists. I'm respectful of others time and work and make every effort to be timely, but I also work in a customer service/healthcare and make every attempt to see patients regardless if they're a bit late. Pretty disappointed and I will not be retuning. Blue Star management you might want to address your customer service issues. read more

I made an appointment and no one asked what specifically I wanted over the phone. I arrive on time and when I say what haircut I want I was told that it would take too long and if I wanted that I would've needed to make a special appointment (it was just a skin fade no coloring or anything like that). The haircut I then got was mediocre at best. Not worth your time or money. read more

Disappointed does not even begin to convey how I feel abouth this place. What used to be a great barber has gone downhill and FAST! The call ahead system is horrible, and there is no manager ont he weekends! Most of the barbers there are fantastic, one I will NEVER go to again; yet the new management has allowed a once great place to become nothing more than a waste of time. I have to admit, I waited before I wrote this review. Not because I was dissatisfied with my haircut (it was very nicely done, and for a quite reasonable price), but because Blue Star offers another service that I was very interested in, and I had to make an appointment for rather than drop in. Unlike most barbershops in town, you see, Blue Star still practices the art of the straight razor shave. Making an appointment, I walked in after work to see Gary, the head barber (and I believe owner?), who would be taking care of me. His first warning was that the shave was going to take around 45 minutes to an hour, which was a bit of a surprise, but I was still game. Getting me comfortable in a reclining barber's chair, he asked me a few questions about how often I normally shave, what razors I use, how I wanted my sideburns handled, and similar details before he explained how things would work. Step 1) Lathering me up with shaving soap and using a hot towel to soften the bristles and open up my skin. (this is actually done twice, and it feels amazing!) Step 2) After removing the initial lather, I was given a light application of shaving oil, followed by more shaving soap lather. Step 3) The initial shave. Gary was good enough to show me both of the razors he'd be using, and was great about giving me a warning before moving my head back or from side to side as he worked to clean me up, carefully working from one side of my face and neck to the other. Step 4) Another lather and hot towel, followed by a shave with another (I believe finer) blade to clean up any stubble or stragglers from the first shave. Step 5) A cold towel, soaked in eucalyptus oil, which helped to protect my skin and prevent razor burn Step 6) A light application of aftershave and talcum powder for the baby-smooth finish. All in all, it was an incredibly interesting and fun experience - a bit of old fashioned pampering, but with a very "Guy" feel to it. Even better, my face was insanely smooth, and I didn't feel a real need to shave again, even to touch up, for three days - and I'm usually in dire need of a daily shave! If you've been curious, I'd absolutely go for it. It's a really great way to do something nice for yourself, and for $35, it's a really nice bargain. read more

Not sure if it's just me or if this is commonplace but I've been to this place 2x in the past 6 months. Both times I have been here (including at this moment) I have been severely disappointed. The staff don't seem to care who Is waiting, and how long that person has been here. The first time I was here I scheduled a shave by appointment. I got to Bluestar and was told it would just be a few minutes, no problem. After about 30 minutes of waiting and numerous lies by the receptionist that it would just be a few more minutes I decided to leave. Before I left- I asked to speak to the manager and the receptionist asked why. I told her that I was upset because I had an appointment 30min ago and could not get a straight answer. She then got on the phone and called the person that was supposed to shave me and come to find out he was sitting next door at 5 Guys!! I come back today, thinking that it will be better and it was just as bad. I used the call ahead service and was told 30minutes on the phone. I get to Bluestar about 15min later realizing full well that I had to wait a few more minutes but after an hour of waiting again, I had to walk out with no hair cut. Now I'm not sure what other companies do- but when there is no one left in line but 1 person, it would stand to reason that they would be next. Not at BlueStar. They take whoever they want, whenever they want. I don't know if this is just stupidity on their part or if it's because I am not white like 90% of their clientele. Who knows... read more

I had been going to Blue Star for about two years, but my last haircut was my last haircut here. The woman who cut my hair was rude--I think she was trying to be playful in a way that sexually frustrated businessmen probably dig, but I wasn't really in the mood for it. She also criticized the fact that I didn't remember what number was on the clippers the last time I had visited (Me (mind you I was already a bit pissed at her attitude): "They have these things called computers, and you can track information like that in programs like Excel or online." Her: "Yeah, you should do that."). I nearly got up out of her chair and told her to go to Hell, but I stayed for the mediocre haircut and left. I was asked by the cashier how everything was, and I told her that there were personality differences. Her response was to say, "Awwww" like I was a cute puppy or something and then add, "But your haircut looks great!" I think there is too much estrogen and too much devotion to sexually titillating the Polaris office workers in this place now. The quality of the haircuts has gone down, and it's neither fun nor worthwhile to get your hair cut here. In addition, there used to be a very cool soundtrack of 60's to 80's rock classics, but now they play whatever dipshit ass stuff the dipshit ass staff likes to hear. Fuck you, Blue Star! read more

If you want to feel like you are lucky to get a haircut this place is for you. I have had my hair cut here a couple times, but have walked out the last two. Both times I have called ahead and been told we can get you in at 4:30 but if you come earlier we can probably get you in early. Both times I have walked out at 5 (didn't expect early). Yes, I am a girl and I went to Blue Star. I was being a good girlfriend by choosing a place that my fiance was cool with. Also, I'm more like a guy than a girl sometimes so it was fine Blue Star was awesome! From the cute decor (it's kind of "Modern Retro" if that makes sense) to the Apple computers available for customer comsumption (or customers kids). Major cool points there! Also, they were pretty busy when we got there but we had called ahead and gave our names and were in a seat within 10-15 minutes. My gal was nice...and everyone around me seemed to have a good rapport with their patrons as well. The best part was at the end - A hot towel on my neck AND a back massage. Neo-barbershops that cater to men who are tired of cheap, crappy cuts at Great Clips are a long time coming. I don't have as much hair to cut these days, but my beard makes up for it. They cut my hair, trimmed my beard, and gave me a heavenly straight-razor neck shave. Rockin'. It's not at all pretentious, but still feels hip...a tough balance. Bros, hipsters, and your nerdy uncle should all feel welcome here. Went on a Saturday afternoon and didn't have any trouble getting in. Kayla cut my hair and she was great. Ask for Travis, he's good at what he does and make honest suggestions for your hair style. Also, the owner (or whoever greeted me at the door) is really friendly and welcoming. I haven't had pointed douchebag sideburns since I was 22. She took it upon herself to think I needed these. Now it's growing back in very oddly, which I hate. I didn't know this because the chair is turned away from the mirror, maybe so people don't get to see what's happening to them. I'll be getting my hair cut fixed at another barber. A real barber. Since I do web stuff by trade let me start here: the website for this place is a 5 out of 10. Sadly most of the places I review have lower scores. On to the business. This place cuts hairs. And is located by 5 Guys. Wait can be an issue if one has not blocked out time with one of the pros here. Unlike most places in the area, this is really a barbershop. It is not named to be a cover for a place that intends to suck your wallet out. Haircuts are under $25 for goodness sake. You want someone specific, like the amazing dude named Christian, sure you will wait. And you know it is worth it or you would never ask for someone by name. [side note: only Christian is allowed to deal with my hair; he gets a 5].. To repeat, haircut prices are under $25. Dare you to find a cheaper place with million dollar service! And ask for Christian! He is the best one there! read more

It's hard to find quality in men's haircuts and when you pay $5 for a haircut, it shows, especially if you don't get it buzzed completely off. My cut before tip has always been $19 and I have been through many styles here. More great things: 1.) Good location. in Polaris beside Five Guys and Firehouse Subs and a few steps from Mellow Mushroom. 2.) $19 for a cut, which includes a hot towel, straight razor neck shave with hot cream and a shoulder massage with an electric hand held massager 3.) Plenty of updated mags and books to read 4.) They have a call-ahead, which I recommend since this place is so popular and busy. They basically put your name down on the list so while you're driving there they are cutting the hair of everyone ahead of you. 5.) Great for kids. I don't have one myself but have seen many there with Dads and Moms. 6.) They cut women's hair as well. I will admit, I have yet to see this but stylists say they come in. mostly during the day. With the place being called a "barbershop", I'm sure it's a slight turnoff. 7.) They play classic rock and as a forewarning they play it a little loud. Not horrible, but it's kinda hard to have a conversation in there. 8.) They have a frequent cut club. After 10 cuts, 11th is free. Ask for the punch card. 9.) Many stylists have specialties, including fades. It's great to be able to call and ask who does what and be directed to that person. The website always elaborates on each each. 10.) They have a person who takes care of people when they walk in. Now, this might not sound important but I hate coming in and just standing there. Highly recommend it but call ahead! read more
