I was in the Bronx area, searching for some of the top nail salons to recommend to my readers when I came across Blue Star Nails. What pulled me in was their advertised a sign for a full set for $35. I walked in, requested a full set, and they also stated the pedicure was an additional $20.00. I said okay, I'll give them a try. Well, let's just say you get what you pay for (and charged then some...these people are crooks). I'd give these people half of a star if I could. The first lady that did my nails, I did not catch her name, but she was very kind and she did a really great job on my nails. She even honored my request to make them sure after I told her I needed them short for work. The second lady, however, who did my feet was an absolute nightmare. She was rude from the moment that I sat down. I tried to start a conversation and asked her what her name was, She joked and said my name is "Michelle... I am Michelle Obama" Then she starts laughing and speaking in her native tongue to another woman beside her, who also busted out laughing immediately after, As if she didn't want me speaking to her or asking her, her name. I decided to redirect my attention to my cell phone and not pay her too much mind to allow her to do her work. I'm a runner and I've also taken up dance so the bottom of my feet have gotten calloused due to running and dance discipline. This lady was so unkind and went on and on about how I have so many calluses were on my feet and kept holding up the back of the razor to show me the dead skin she'd removed from my feet as if I didn't love or take care of myself. I explained to her several times that I run and I dance and that I have calluses on my feet because of ballet, and she continued just being an atrocious person and making fun of my feet. I do not have ugly feet. I had calluses on my feet, but she was making this big hoopla inside of the salon, switching in and out of her native tongue and English. I was so disgusted with this experience that I tried to leave before she put the nail polish on. "Michelle" insisted that she was going to take the price of my pedicure off because my experience was so bad. When I got to the register, " Michelle" says some slick stuff to the lady behind the register and her native tongue ...they ended up charging me for both my nails, the pedicure and extra $20 because she did this limp ass wrap with saran wrap on the heel of my foot for like two seconds. My bill came to $88... There is barely any color on my toes and this was not an $88 job... As a writer, and as a black woman, and as a woman who just wants to experience being pampered and respected in an establishment where she's spending her money, I would not recommend this place to anyone. this was the worst I have ever gotten. I have gotten in other places in the Bronx and this is by far the worst experience I enter I get greeted rushed. I simple manicure gel nail polish. She continuously pushes the issue of trying to get me to put acrylic on my nails, and told her no twice she keeps pushing pushing push pushing the issue and I keep telling her then on top of that she sees that my nails are already short and she keeps cutting my skin on my fingers and I keep telling her she's hurting me and she continues to do so as she's also continuing to push the issue of trying to put acrylic over my which I already told her for the seventh time that I didn't want no acrylic just gel, nail polish and irregular the end of this manicure. It was the worst because there was nothing special about it. that was even worth the $30 or even 25 at that and I have cuts all over my fingers like sore spots that really and that are very tender on top of that. My nail polish is very bumpy very all over the place, at all, and it looks as though that she has not cut my cuticles the right way, but they are cut. It seems that she did not place the UV gel properly and it shows very clearly as though I did my own nails myself. Then when it came to pay, my payment said that it declined went on my end I clearly showed her that it went through and it was pending. She then proceeded to charge me a second time for another amount and then didn't wanna let me leave the store because she's thinking that I'm trying to dip her for a horrible set. My normal nail salon was busy and I needed an immediate walk-in. I walked around to my local shops and walked upon Blue Star, I was reluctant but needed a quick fix. When I walked in, I was not greeted and I had to ask someone to help me. I saw a poster on the wall of some nails I thought were cool so I asked for this design. First of all...this nail tech lied and said she knew how to do it, she did not know how to properly do this design, and she did not use the products advertised on the poster. This was like one of those "what I asked for vs what I got" scenarios. Literally the WORST paint job I've ever gotten. On top of that...one of my nails broke the same day! I called the shop the next day less than 24 hours later and the nail tech says it was my fault because I got a refill not a full set and I would have to pay to fix it. I ALWAYS get refills and my nails last for weeks! I will never come back to this salon and I would HIGHLY recommend against anyone going, overpriced as well. Went for the first time today and I honestly could've gone to someone so much better. My nails were done in literally 10-15 minutes and it was the most rushed, half assed nail job I have ever received in my life. Not only were my cuticles completely ignored by her but she didn't even remove all the extra stuff under my nails. I wish I had looked this place up before I went in. I just moved to the Bronx and my previous tech had just moved to VA. SO I tried them. Foolish mistake. I usually get glow in the dark wraps over my real (and long) nails. The owner insisted she's the only one who knows how to do it. Ok. She didn't file them properly even after I asked her repeatedly. Whatever all shops have their bad days. I went back 3 weeks later for a pedi and new set from Henry. Really cool guy just has no clue what he's doing. I was removing the bad glow in the dark job the owner previously did and was keeping it simple with a new set. He insisted that my nails were tips and kept filing until it hurt my nail bed. I told him they are mine. He said "stop lying, girls your age only wear tips". First of all I'm a grown ass woman in my thirties and second if you can't tell the difference between real nails and tips u don't need to be doing this. It was late and he was the last one working so I had to sit there. He globbed on the acrylic and for the life of me idk what he was filing but it was everything he shouldn't have been. Horrible service. None attentive staff. I went in to remove a gel manicure and get a fresh gel manicure and regular pedicure. I asked if they had true match and they said no. They didn't even have the a color matching set up. They just kept pushing gel manicure w gel pedicure. So I decided I just wanted a reg manicure & reg pedicure. That is when I lost all customer service attention. I was passed off to this older lady who was rude, and nasty. She did an ok job on my toes even thought she was a bit rough. But she did a really bad job on my hands. she filed my nails way to short and slanted. And she did a horrible job painting my nails. When I asked her to correct my nails she had a fit. after my nails dried I asked her to clean my hands because I had polish all over- and she had another fit. Used to like coming here but last couple of times they didn't do a good job on my nails. Was a regular for almost 2 years and was disappointed with their attitude the last time I went. Got a gel polish over my wrap and the very next day half of the polish came off. Went to show them and get it fixed and the lady infront questioned me on whether I got my nails done there (she knows me, she's done my nails multiple times because of the specific & unique designs I request). Anyway, she made one of the guys there redo the messed up nail and he was rushing even though the place was empty and it would be another hour before they close. Guess what, less than a week later that same nail and a few others chipped again. Ended up having to go to this new place I found nearby and they're so much better. Way better work and much cleaner designs. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this is to save you. I got a full set of acrylics here and the lady who did them cut 6 of my fingers with the nail file. The cut on my thumb was so deep it took almost 2 weeks to heal. They still charged me for the set but with a slight discount. If no stars were an option that's what I'd leave.
