Where do we start with this establishment? I've been coming here for about 15yrs..I was in my mid 20's when I was introduced to Cindy & Alex. When I first started coming here, they were very nice. They use to put a lot of effort into their work, The passion was there. However, over the years the quality of service has gotten worst with each passing year. First of all the shop is "Matchbox" size and can hold about 20 people including workers, you would think all the millions she's made there over the years she would have upgraded her space, cause the prices surely have inflated over the years. I use to spend $125 bi-weekly for a full set, pedi, eyebrows and lashes! Now the prices aren't even posted, YOU PAY WHAT THEY SAY! The gel selection is POOR & LIMITED, the "By appt" techs are sloppy and money hungry(Randy cut me twice) Did you know you can get an infection from being cut while being rushed out the chair for the NEXT PAYING CUSTOMER!?? ...But that's the shop as a collective and for the water down gel you slinging, y'all should be a bit nicer(In your profession & manners) There's no amount of wall paper or air freshener that will cover up this scam of a business. Cindy and Alex were a staple in the community, however they are TOO comfortable with mediocrity for me! I'm gonna take my coin downtown for a RUSSIAN manicure, where they cut your cuticles because it's part of the service. Don't EVER think you getting your cuticles cut(UNLESS ITS A PEDICURE) or a massage here!! NOPE! They would NEVER!!! Dishwashing liquid for bubbles, wild cuticles and stomped on GEL... this is not the 80's!! We want our gel PURE.. lol If this was 2001, I would probably recommended this business, but it's 2023..and I wouldn't refer them to my worst enemy! Customer service is key in any thriving business. Avenue Nails on Lexington Ave is lacking in that department. Invest in some NEW GEL ALREADY! Invest in a spot that can hold all 50 of us when you in there being careless and rude! That's the least you could do after all these years. You gonna lose all of your good paying customers soon enough Ms..waited 20yrs to put a credit card machine in the place cause you wanted to avoid taxes!! We're sick of your BAD SERVICE...and I'm so grateful for places like Yelp & TikTok where customers can let others know where NOT to spend our hard earned coin. 0 STARS for me! Though I didn't see them thoroughly clean or sanitize anything between customers they simultaneously worked on in that dirty salon. She didn't even apologize for the bad customer service, the state of the place, the length of time it took for basic full set or overcharging for basic services they didn't correctly do. The place isn't that clean and they charge for dumb things. I paid $10 for nail removal when they did nothing but soak them and I took them off myself. So I basically walked out paying almost $50 for very basic full set acrylics. I am not to sure how this salon has good reviews. I came here on a Saturday afternoon from the moment I got off the train, I saw a huge crowd of females standing in front of the salon conjugating. As a business owner I personally would not like a bunch of loud females hanging out in front of my store front like this is the park. The salon is the size of a closet. You are literally sitting on top of one another. I waited about 20 minutes until I got my nails started on. I asked my technician to do ombre has the technician next to us was doing. Which was coming out bomb on his clients nails. Before I get into my nails. I want to add that the entire time a female was yelling at one of the other technicians because she was waiting for her to do her lashes( which she was doing right next to me, not even in a private room) so the environment is ghetto to say the least. Now my nails did not come out how I wanted them to or how the other tech did it. I received a lot of compliments but if you looked up close you can see the terrible application. Within my two weeks I had 2 nails completely off and my nails are clumply. This is my go too nail place now after I had a not so great experience somewhere else! My man Andy is the man that can! He makes me happy and my nails always look amazing. I get the gel colours and they last so long. Last time because I have been busy I waited longer than 3 weeks and the colour was still intact! When I first started going there, the fresh set of nails that I got only one week before started cracking and breaking one by one. Andy fixes them all and reassured me (as I was freaking out a bit! This review is based solely on my daughters nails and tech. So I took my daughter in last minute today and this place was crowded to say the least. Anywho - we waited and one of the men did her nails (I didn't get his name) it wasn't randy but the other man (I believe he's the owner). Her nails came out so good I was surprised honestly. Exactly what she asked for. Now on to the pedicure seats and feet part; they looked so dirty like I was disgusted. Then there were girls there getting their feet done and the the techs didn't use a plastic to line the sink for the feet (that's what I'm used to for hygienic reasons and to prevent infections). There technicians are thorough and can resurrect any nail calamity and have you walking out with beautiful hands and feet. Mind you, the nail salon is shabby and tiny. But, the folks who work there are talented and friendly. Regular pedicure and gel manicure $35 has lasted two and a half weeks without chipping. The color options for gel are huge but the regular nail polish collection is pretty sparse. So you might want to bring your own colors. They do facial waxing. I want to start by saying I've only been here twice. Both nice experiences. The workers are very nice My first time, I went for a gel manicure. I was worried my nails were going to come out weird because they were so short, and they came out looking very nice! It was a nice surprise. Neat even job, clean, and youthful looking. 4.5 stars for that visit. The second time, I went for another gel manicure with good expectations. I was let down :\ My left hand is decent with some residue around the cuticles & an uneven job, and my right hand is even more uneven with polish missing on some of the nails. If I keep them this way, they'll look dumb as the nails/polish grow out. I didn't notice till I walked out & got the train. I'm really upset :\ I guess I was just happy they were done since my nails had started to chip/become weak. In my last review, I said I would go back to ask them to fix it. I never did because sadly my nails started to break apart after a few days, which is related to the nail job, but since it didn't look this way I thought it wasn't worth it to go back & explain this to them. I'm going to go back a third time next week, and update this review. Hopefully third time's a charm... I also forgot to mention that the first time I did gel manicure, a woman did it. The second time, a man did it. Not to sound sexist, but I think this made a difference. I've found that male nail technicians don't pay attention to details the same way female technicians do.
