Okay, this is my third or fourth time going. I respect Tomy; I see his vision and how he wants his clients to feel, and the type of high-end salon he has in Washington Heights. I get him. I do not get why or how service falls short. I am maybe delusional or too optimistic. I see other ladies smiling and relaxed, and I want that. I also have seen and overheard women say things such as "never mind, let her do what she does- she is not getting it". I work with my hands, I am very attentive to details, and expect my nails to be done how I like with the expertise of the technician. The salon is very minimalistic, calming, and neat. However, I have not experienced that myself. My mother and I were ushered out of the pedicure chairs, and now that I'm home, I see my polish was smudged. I was told my toes were dry, but clearly, they weren't. Feeling anxious, uncomfortable, and overwhelmed, I left in a hurry. Previously, I received Saran Wrap for my toes and oil, but this time, neither the receptionist Ailyn nor either nail technicians provided that. Before I even left, two walk-ins were in our seats. My mother and I had 11 a.m. appointments, but we weren't serviced until almost 11:20. I asked the other receptionist if they were short-staffed, and she explained that the ladies come in later. I suggested that perhaps I should book for a later time instead of 11 a.m., hinting that it felt unprofessional to wait without any communication until it was past 11 a.m. I had booked dip powder for both of us, but we were shown nearly 100 colors. The one I chose was gel. Ailyn spoke to me condescendingly, as if I lacked understanding. I sensed there was something she wasn't saying clearly. She mentioned that I could get the gel, but they would apply a clear dip to conceal it. When I asked why do that, she said it would cost an extra $10. How was I to know that the color I selected was gel and not dip? It would have been helpful to of been show only dip options or to have been informed beforehand: "Great color choice, but please note this is gel; would you like to switch to a gel service? If so, it will cost--." It is not relaxing to engage in so much dialogue with different people. I wish I were fluent in Spanish, but I'm not, so I find myself relying on the receptionist to translate. The nail technicians claim to understand, but from my experience, they do something different from what they were told. I am satisfied with my manicure, but my toe polish--no. I just dropped off my mother, so I don't know if her toes were smudged as well. Considering we finished at the same time, it's likely. read more

Catelin (not sure if I spelled her name right) was incredible. The best manicure I've had. She spent an hour on my nails, was meticulous about the details, and ensured they were done properly. She also gave a great hand massage at the end and took extra time to protect my cuticles with cuticle oil. She shaped my nails perfectly that they are symmetrical in size when compared to my other hand. I was very happy with my manicure and would come back! I heard of this salon by searching "sns nyc" on tik tok where I saw someone record their time here. In the video, it showed that they required masks, the techs wear gloves, your fingers aren't dipped into the jar, there's plexiglass, and best of all--the finished mani looked great! So I fared the trek from Queens to Uptown Manhattan and it was sooooo worth it. Everyone was so nice and welcoming. There were so many colors to choose from. My nails are on their 4th week and still look great. There's no cracking or anything. Just a little grow out which nails do. Ugh so in love! I'm returning for sure. The nail tech kind of buffed the skin around my cuticle a little too much where they scabbed on like 3 fingers but they healed quickly and I spoke up at some point to be like, ow, but everything else was well done. My only qualm is the $12 removal fee :( The sns itself is $55 which isn't bad but add that fee and tip, you're suddenly at $80 which also isn't that bad for a once a month expense, but I'd love it more if it was $5 or zero, to incentivize people to return, ya know? I have been a loyal customer of Tomy Rivero's and this last session solidified why. Let me start by why I continue going. 1- Tomy Rivero - the owner and name- is an amazing human being. You can tell that he loves his craft and cares about his business, his staff, and the customers that come in. He not only ensures that his business is run smoothly, he ensures that you leave with the services you requested and are satisfied and happy with the work done on you. 2- The establishment is always immaculate, clean, and peaceful. You get the spa feeling and treatment at every appointment. 3- They ensure that every tool used is new and/ or sanitized for every client. 4- The staff are all so nice, inviting, respectful. They treat everyone with detail and attention. 5- They are a stickler to their schedule. They make sure that every treatment and schedule client is greeted and seated on time. If I waited more than 10 min at one session it was a rarity. Now my last session. I had an accident and am a bit limited but needed my monthly session badly. As soon as I came in not only was Ashley the sweetest greater but all the front desk staff all helpful in assisting me to my seats for the day. Marisol is my go to for my pedicure. She is thorough in her work and my feet come out beautiful and brand new each time Big shout out to Alexia. She not only is amazing in nail designs she went above and beyond to help me with my manicure even moving around and changing her seating to accommodate my immobile arm so that she can complete my nails for the day. You can tell that she loves her craft and cares how your hands turn out with every session and customer that she has. Tomy was there as well silently guiding his staff to assist me and the rest of his clientele. You can miss him sometimes if you don't pay attention but his presence is always felt in how attentive his staff is and the touches of color and beauty he places in every nook and cranny of his establishment. I am very pleased with the service and my experience at Beauty Lab , I came in for a Gel mani and pedi . The vibe is very calming and pleasant , the space is clean. I love how the products used for the Gel pedicure really moisturized my feet which needed some extra TLC. I like the attention and focus. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because I would have liked if I had an option to accommodate my leg better because of my current knee condition. I really liked the salon, and the owner was great too. He's Dominican, raised in the area, and i'm a huge supporter of local biz. So it sucked that this was my experience, but whew. I was a loyal customer to this salon for over a year, coming in for gel at first until one of the nail techs recommended SNS. Once I tried it, I never went back. One day, I had just gotten a beautiful set done. Only a week had passed, and both my middle finger nails broke in god awful places. It hurt like hell. I called the salon to let them know, and spoke to their manager, Helen. She asked me to send photos - I did - and she told me that I must be in so much pain, she wants to hug me.. and they'll fix the nails for free. Other words she shared prior to that made me feel as if the blame was trying to be shifted on me, but I was going to get it fixed for free, so I let it go. Couple hours later, I get a call back from her. She tells me that they reviewed the surveillance footage (lol huh?) and they noticed that the nail tech didn't do anything out of the ordinary (no over-filing) so they can only give me 20% off. I was again told that they must have broken because of something that I did. I let her know this time around - it seems as if I'm being blamed for this. She assured me she wasn't blaming me. I also thought it was terrible business practice and handled extremely poorly to promise someone something for free and then backtrack, but ok. I just wanted to get the nails re-done so they would stop breaking on me. Once I came in person.... Helen decided to approach me as I'm sitting with the nail tech to let me know (again) how the salon isn't responsible for what happened. She brought up the surveillance again and tried to blame me again. This set me off. Everyone knows that dipping powder can be harmful to nail health if not properly removed or applied. Plus, I'd been going to the same salon for over a year. If my nails are weak- I wonder why? This approach caused a whole scene, it was completely unprofessional and as a loyal customer, I felt utterly shocked. She also told me to leave the salon, because "she wasn't going to let me disrespect her or her girls" (i never was rude to the nail techs... only the person who was approaching me unnecessarily) After that, the nail tech was speaking to me on the low about how that was unnecessary of her, but she doesn't want to lose her job so she can't say much. She even told me that she thought these were not my natural nails, but now that she knows they are my natural nails, she agrees- my nails should not be breaking like this. Sad, because the nail salon is generally clean, the techs are awesome and good at their jobs + have good attitudes. But Helen? Whew, forget about it. Extremely unprofessional. Lost a loyal customer. Visiting from out of town from LA. I'll start with the good -the place is clean and cute. The people were nice and there was a nice color selection for Polish. The price was cheaper on Thursday so we paid $120 for 2 pedicures and 1 manicure. Why the 1 star? The lady who did my feet scraped the back of my foot and I started bleeding a nice amount of blood which she didn't even notice at first. It's been almost a week and I'm still in pain. It's my favorite mani/pedi place in Washington Heights and I'm so glad to live 1 block away, I love that you can easily book all services online through their website and pay/tip with your card at the salon. The salon is immaculate and stunning- white, clean, crisp and bright. Adorned with fresh flowers, candles and chill music... They often offer complimentary water or tea, as well. It feels like a million dollar experience, without the million dollar price tag. They're 100% on top of sanitation and Covid compliance. Everything is sanitized throughly from the tools, the polish selection stand, the equipment, to the chair and tables. They take temperatures, obtain tracing info and require hand washing of all clients upon arrival. Their attention to detail is fantastic. They offer standard manicures + gel manicures and offer the same color options for both so you can get a matching regular pedi with a gel mani or vice verse. I get a regular manicure nearly weekly and every time they triple check my cuticles and nails to ensure they look perfect. Every. Single. Time. I got my first pedicure today and it was above my expectations and included hot towel and hot stone service, plus heel moisturizer while my toes were being polished. Manicures run $20 Pedicures are $36 But if you get both it's only $48 which is a screaming deal... which leaves you plenty of room to tip their expert technicians very well, because they deserve it. I watch them do acrylics on other guests and those also look truly stunning too. Their IG account shows lots of gorgeous designs and color offerings. I've get apres gel-x, gel and sns manis and spa pedis regularly and honestly this spot is REALLY impressive. Highly recommend if you're looking to treat yourself or just want a regular spot that has a more calm relaxing experience than other nail salons. Eveyone is different, but for me, my nail appt is my self care day and I want it to be as relaxing as possible and it's safe to say today I felt pampered (without breaking the bank too!). I got the $40 basic pedicure with a $5 foot file add-on and it was honestly better than most **upgraded** pedicures I've had (no exaggeration, it was way better than the fancy spots in Brooklyn and Manhattan). I noted they also used a professional footfile - not those cheese graters most salons use that make your calluses come back harder. This attention to detail shows they know what they're doing. The SNS manicure was insanely good, too. Janey was such a great meticulous nail tech, I can't recommend her enough! From looking around, it's clear all these nail techs are super skilled! I would definitely come back here for my next Apres gel-x set. Lovely clean space sets the tone. Im always looking at nail salons protocol in terms of sanitary practices, and I was really impressed! I'm immunocompromised, so for me, it was awesome that they still asked you to wear masks and they also santized surfaces. Most importantly, they used new tools for each customer, which was awesome. Updating my review: I returned to this salon because of a few factors including a balance on my account, proximity to my apartment, and honestly the price. Going here for the past few months has been such a better experience than it was previously. There were complaints from me and some of my neighbors about the woman who ran the front desk. She has not been around, or if she is, her morale is much better and she is much kinder- Though I have not seen her lately. The overall atmosphere of the staff is much less stressed and more relaxed.
