was a little nervous by the prices of this place. it seemed a little too cheap and a little too good to be true, but everything worked out and i didn't get botched like i thought i would, haha. money is a little tight as a full time student and i wasn't in the position to be dropping $120+ for a haircut. all i needed was the dead cut off and add some layers back in. i even got some curtain bangs cut in. the hairstylist did a great job with the cut, but i don't think she understood how to do a blowout too well or how to style the curtain bangs, which is fine for me, idc. i just wanted healthy hair again and after $59 (including tip!!) i got that, even with coming in with hair nearly to my butt. i'll definitely come back here!! read more

This review is just for Veronica. I went in for a routine trim and layer to my hair- just to liven it up. I am new to the area and chose this salon due to their awesome reviews- Veronica did a complete hack job on my hair- while thinning out the back of my hair she accidentally cut a huge patch of my hair.. but the worse thing is she didn't even admit to the mistake- she said we were done and I was in complete shock that my hair was cut so short in the back! She then started apologizing profusely. I was just so upset and shocked about the entire thing. I just wanted to share my experience- the owner was very nice and calm and offered to give me 4 free blow outs to "support me while my hair grew back"-- this was a nice gesture for what happened but doesn't take away from the horrible mistake that Veronica did. Would not recommend or would ever go there after my daughter went there to get her hair curled for prom. She came home showered again and fixed her hair. What a waste of money and time. I went in to Blue Violet after numerous disappointing visits to other salons in the area, and because they have great reviews. I had brunette, virgin hair, wanting to go blonde. It took three visits, hundreds of foils, hours of Robin's time (she and Andrea even stayed late to finish my hair). My hair has never looked better! The ladies are incredibly knowledgeable and helped me get my light hair without causing damage. Robin introduced me to shadow root color- a game changer for brunettes looking to lighten up their hair without worrying about dark roots coming in. This morning I came by and asked for a quick consultation for my hair. The receptionist was super nice and I met Liz the stylist. She was so kind and amazing. I haven't had a haircut in over a year but it was definitely time to fix my color after I terribly bleached it myself and take care of the horrid split ends I had after just not doing anything about it for so long. Everyone there was really friendly, Robin was the one who was taking care of my hair and she was amazing! She lightened up my roots to match the bottom of my hair where the bleach color was still there (and she did so without bleaching! Was so nice to not have a burning scalp...) She was very talkative and made sure that I was getting exactly what I wanted in terms of length I was cutting- she measured 1,2, and 3 inches and showed me exactly how much hair it would be so I could let her know what I was comfortable with getting cut off. I'm really awkward so it was nice to have someone that made me feel so relaxed to talk to. I definitely recommend going to this salon and asking for Robin specifically. This is a follow up review to my previous one in 3/2011 I've had my hair styled and colored by Bobbi LaBelle at this location for almost 10 years; when it was formerly CONCEPTS, and now BLUE VIOLET. Even though I live in Chicago, traveling up to Libertyville is worth the trip not only for Bobbi's personal touch, but the overall salon environment and the enthusiastic leadership of Andrea, and collaboration from other staff. My stylist, Bobbi LaBelle has 30 years of experience but don't let age fool you; she is just as young at heart as everyone else at the salon. In November I had the "interview of a lifetime" in NYC and went to Blue Violet to update my style and color (after all, I was going to NYC!). My visit was extremely delightful, and the service I received exceptionally personalized and polished. What I most remember is how Bobbi and Andrea collaborated together on my color to ensure I was not only happy, but that I looked my absolute best. Their personal care and enthusiasm to make things happen resulted in a stunning result; considering I've dyed my own hair at times to save money, they helped me look polished, poised and "current". If you go to Blue Violet, you will find a contemporary and comfortable place to not only give yourself a treat, but also to be treated with style. Selfishly I suggest asking for Bobbi because of both her experience, personal care, and how current she stays on styles, colors and trends. As an example, I was once in a Kirk Player's stage production that called for me to have very long, curly hair (I have shoulder length). Not wanting to wear a wig, Bobbi learned how to do extensions, which stayed in for 6 weeks straight through the entire production! Andrea owns a lovely shop and all of her staff are talented, congenial and a pleasure to be around. She was very thorough and took the time to cut wet and then went back in dry which i know some stylist don't always do. She even styled and curled my hair which was nice.
