Patty came out to get me around 6:15-6:20 and patiently listened to my thoughts on what I wanted to do with my hair. She was super friendly and really helpful with offering advice every time I told her about my hair problems. Too dry, too frizzy, too damaged, everything! Believe me when I say my hair has been through a lot over the last decade and more. Patty washed my hair with an amazing minty shampoo and also a very light, non-creamy conditioner which I specifically asked for (yes!). Then she also showed me a leave-in conditioner and thermal protection spray that she thought would be best for my hair. What I most appreciated was that at no point did she ever try to sell me any of their products. She simply talked to me as if she was recommending something for a friend. The haircut turned out to be pretty good. My bangs were cut a little too short than what I would've liked though but luckily it grows out fast so it's not that big of a deal. She took off about 6+ inches of hair in the back so it ended up at the length that I wanted. Other random points: The Hair Fetish uses a lot of Paul Mitchell and Davines products. It's also a huge bonus that they do a free trim of your bangs if you come in the next 3 weeks after your haircut!

In less than five minutes of conversation, it's easy to understand why. Rodney is comfortable speaking to just about anyone. I have watched him with his clients over the years. What impresses me is that it seems he styles males as much as females. Of every age. I don't see many male stylists who are able to do that. This goes for the Chicago salons I have visited over the years. Rodney may or may not agree, but he has always reminded me of James Dean. When I walked into the salon at 17, he had a tight-white t-shirt on, and jeans. Just like the icon himself. Rodney seems to like music and culture from that era as well. In contrast, Rodney has longer blond hair which echos more of the '80s. I've always found that amusing. Rodney is the best. Just sit down in his chair and let him tell you all about the El Camino he's restoring. I can't wait until he finishes this car. The look of satisfaction on his face will be epic! If you ask, he'll show you photos on his cell phone. Rodney is an unsung hero of hair. Twenty-seven years later, I found Rodney in the same salon where I left off back in the early 2000's. I had just moved back from California, and reconnecting with Rodney was just what the doctor ordered. He knows pretty much everything about me, and I had a California story for him which captured almost everyone's concerns in the salon. It was my first haircut and color since I got home, and it felt Cathartic. Also, I have never felt so supported by people I didn't know. Just when I was thinking humans were poisonous, everyone here in this moment reminded me that some people are still good. You could tell by the looks on their faces. Even if they were just curious. lol That's okay. I get that way too. I now live in Chicago, and drive completely out of my way to get my hair done. My old stomping grounds. It takes a good chunk out of my day, but it's totally worth it. Chicago salons have never treated me well. I might find a decent stylist, but my hair ends up dried out, and it breaks off, leaving my hair looking frizzy. All from the color that they use. When Rodney colors my hair, it feels the same as it did when I started my day. There's probably a simple answer, but what it translates to is a world of difference! The Optometrist I work with has learned a little bit about Rodney after each of my visits. She notices the color right away and knows I went to see him. It's to the point where curiosity has gotten the better of her because of how I describe him as a person. She already knows he has talent from looking at my hair. However, it's because of the nice things I've had to share about the kind of person he is, which made her say, "I have to go meet Rodney." I really hope she does.

She is coloring my hair!! When she needed one to consult about toner no one showed after 15 minutes; we were told they were having lunch. Then at checkout I was charged $25 for extra coloring since she ran out before she foiled my bangs. WOW! This was awful and certainly not the school I once recall it being. Had extra hair to return because the policy states returns are taken up to 7 days after purchase. I come in and the employee says he can't do returns but he can do exchanges which are the exact same thing. He then says only the owner can do returns . Which is not at the store. He says they'll be back within 30 minutes so I wait. He and the other cashier then start speaking another language about a "return" . All while I continue to wait on their manager. I would not recommend this beauty supply to anyone. I can't wait for another one to open in the area. Because they've been doing bad business for too many years.
