Went in for lunch today 6/30/18. Our first time here. We had take out once and was not pleased. So we tried it again. The smell from the BBQ grill outside will make your mouth water! Seating inside and outside with umbrella covered tables. Restaurant is clean with nice sized tables but had a lot of flies all around that we constantly swatted as we waited and then while we were eating. Our first waitress seemed aloof and was slow. A young blond girl. She never came back for our order after bringing us our drinks. We sat waiting for twenty minutes before a more experienced waitress with long dark hair asked if our order was taken and then pulled out her pad as she shot the young blonde a look. Hubby ordered the loaded potato and I had the Banjo plate of pulled BBQ pork, slaw and baked beans. Each of us were given buttered garlic Texas toast. We waited for nearly 30 minutes before receiving our food. The young blonde first took our food to another table and was trying to set in down when the two men said it wasn't theirs. Our dark haired waitress heard it and told her it was ours. Husbands food was hot and he said it was delicious. As for my plate, the slaw was cold and the beans were hot but my pulled pork was barely warm. The Texas toast, although delicious, was cold. The pork was delicious and not dry. The slaw could be more creamy and could use a little vinegar/sugar with the mayo and milk. The baked beans were not homemade and tasted and looked just like baked beans from a can and not the good kind. Baked beans should have finely minced onion and bell pepper and a sweet and tangy sauce. I asked about the corn and was told it was not corn on the cob, but corn niblets from a can. All sides should be homemade and not convenience items to fill out a plate. Even fresh frozen corn on the cob boiled or grilled until hot and slathered in butter would be better than niblets from a can. How about a homemade creamy, cheesy baked macaroni and cheese instead of the bland cheese sauce poured over elbow macaroni. We were given a sample and it was not good. Husband liked the regular sauce that came on top of his chopped up potato with butter, sour cream, pulled pork, cheese and BBQ sauce. It was sweet and mild with a good flavor. The hot sauce was not a pleasing taste. The mustard sauce was good but I instantly knew what it was. Heinz 57 mixed with honey mustard. I should know, I make that at home. Overall, we will go back again in a few months to see if they read this and have upgraded their sides to homemade as well as making sure that all meat comes out hot and not lukewarm. One other item of note - this business will add on a 2% hospitality tax, a 2.5% take out tax and a 2.99% credit card surcharge to your bill (if you pay by credit card). I don't know if these additional taxes are manditory state or local taxes, but I would presume so. When the anti-tax morons scream and cry about property taxes and income taxes, this is what you end up with. And everyone is adding credit card surcharges now, so no surprise there. There is of course an additional sales tax added on the order, which I presume is the standard state sales tax. For those of you who are mathematically challenged, there is also an handy Suggested Additional Tip chart at the bottom of your receipt, if you are so inclined. It's based on check price before discounts and taxes and will tell you so.
