I wanna first say the service was absolutely wonderful! The two ladies that were up front were pure dolls. So sweet and attentive. Both the men I saw asked multiple times if everything was good and if I needed anything. The food is soooooo soooo good. I loved how non fatty the pulled pork was it was absolutely delicious! I loved the bbq sauce choices they had. The sides were absolutely delicious and amazing as well. The ambience was quiet and I enjoy that a lot because it's better to be able to talk to your friends and family rather then yelling across the table. I think this was the second place we had BBQ after moving to the Carolinas. We've been to many places since and we still regularly hit this place. They're not trying to be over the top or fancy, just consistent and good. The place is almost always busy and the staff is attentive and nice. I love the Broasted Chicken. It's pressure cooked and then fried so it's super juicy and flavorful. I'm not a fan of hush puppies but theirs are really good! They used to have great Cheerwine BBQ sauce but they were out the last time we went. Hopefully next time they'll have it because that's my favorite one! read more

Unassuming spot near QT and the bread factory. It's not much more inside but it's easily the best barbeque I've had in the upstate so far. The staff is great and the service quick. The food is consistently good and I tend to rate barbeque on how much flavor it has without any sauce. Theirs I can eat plain and revel in the experience. We were in town for a tournament and looking for a bbq place. This is advertised as the, or at least one of the, best bbq places so we had to try it. It is pretty easy to find as there are a lot of signs both in front and on the building. Parking is easy with handicapped spaces close to the front door. Walking in, there is a small dining bar in front as well as a mix of tables and booths. We selected a booth along the inside wall near the kitchen. Our server came out quickly and took our drink order. We were ready to order the food when the drinks were brought out. The food took over 20 minutes to arrive. It looks like they do a lot of take out orders, and there were only two people working, one server and one in the kitchen. The brisket plate included four thin slices of brisket. The meat was tender but there was way too much fat included. It seemed like it was closer to 2 1/2 slices of actual brisket meat, which was much less than expected for the price. The baked beans were mediocre, with nothing indicating they were homemade. The potato salad was fine but no different from most other bbq places. The half chicken was pretty good. The meat was moist and had very nice flavor. The side of fried squash was excellent. This was a recommendation from our server and was probably the highlight of the meal. The bbq slaw was also good. They offer several different bbq sauces. I thought the Cheerwine sauce was the best option available. It was too sweet overall, but had a nice cherry flavor which added to the brisket very nicely. The mild sauce was also good but nondescript. The mustard-based sauce was fine as well, but did not really stand out from others. While the service was good, and the fried squash recommendation top notch, the overall meals certainly did not live up to my expectations as one of the best bbq places in the area. read more

The staff were incredibly welcoming, kind and attentive throughout our visit. The interior is decorated nicely and overall inviting. Unfortunately our gut was right, the food didn't quite live up to our expectations or to the previous reviews. The BBQ was served cold, and the ribs were tough and cooked unevenly. The hush puppies tasted as though they had been prepared earlier in the day and reheated. The baked beans were almost boiling/extremely hot from sitting in a warmer and lacked flavor. Seemed like the beans were straight of the can. Overall, the experience was disheartening because the restaurant clearly has so much potential. Really good bbq for a very reasonable price. I went yesterday and a truckful of Black travelers entered not long after I did. One woman asked, "Is this place any good?" I told her it was my first time too and wished us both luck with our meals. I had the Tuesday special - 6 oz pulled pork, baked beans and coleslaw for $6 (!!!) - and I added a side of fried okra in lieu of dessert. The friendly waitress brought the store's three sauces to my table. The hot sauce reminded me of eastern North Carolina-style vinegar and pepper but without the vinegar; the mustard sauce was waaaayyyyy too sweet for my taste; and the mild was just right with a luscious thickness that helps it stick to the meat AND stick to your bones! Got ribs and fried squash and onion rings. The ribs were under cooked with a sauce on them that tasted like ketchup. The squash was sliced so thin one squash probably serves 100 people as well as the onion. Scotch tape was thicker than the size of the squash and onion rings. I walked in and was immediately attended to. My drink was brought within seconds and my order taken promptly. It's a very cute and family friendly place as you would expect for a bbq place is the Carolina's. The food came pretty quickly and is absolutely delicious. I can't decide my favorite sauce but I think it's either what seems like honey mustard or the cheerwine bbq sauce. It's two completely different flavors but they are both very good! Close to 85, I discovered this place en route home. It's bbq, which is a a whole "thang", not sure if I am an expert concerning all things bbq but I will give it a Jab as an amateur. It's a dive-y strip mall, close to a gas station with tight parking. I was happy with all the side options and price is low. About $11 for a half bird, 2 sides and hush puppies. Husband had brisket sandwich. We both had Mac & cheese and he was accidentally given fried squash, so I got a double order of fried squash. It was more food than I could handle. My chicken was very tender and juicy with a strong hickory flavor. I included pics of the bbq sauces on the table, I would guess my chicken had the mild sauce when it came out. I tried the "cheerwine sauce", which I personally thought was gross. I could actually distinguish the cheerwine soda, which I assumed would've been masked Mild sauce is a standard red bbq sauce with appropriate balance of sweetness. The Carolina bbq sauce(yellow and made with vinegar) was on the table as well. Note: chicken came out with the red sauce not Carolina mustard. Mac and cheese had liberal about of cheese and it was stringy, not made with only processed cheese. The cheese was the thickening agent and I didn't taste eggs(yes this is a thing). Fried squash was a pleasant option and was fried well, not overly greasy and with a crunchy batter. Server was on her first day and made a couple of mistakes, but the rest of the staff was helping her and quickly correcting mistakes. Bathroom super clean and smelled good, so I wasn't worried about cleaning practices on a surface level. Give it a shot if in the area, but expect it to take a bit longer than a fast food stop. read more

Always delicious BBQ I had pork sandwich with BBQ slaw (red slaw) on it with sides of greens beans and Mac n Cheese. My picky 4 year old gobbled up the green beans but only ate a little bit of the Mac n cheese. I think it was too peppery for him. We also had hush puppies and those are NOT to be skipped. My parents had the same thing with diff sides. The baked beans got eaten. The fried okra was delicious (fried, how can it not be?) but the potato salad was a bit lacking. The egg tasted old and the whole thing lacked a lot of flavor. We also had to get a side of red slaw to split amongst the three adult sandwiches. It was not too crowded on a Friday evening at around 5. Our service was fine. We both ordered ribs. The ribs were meaty but they were not fall off the bone tender. Getting them off the bone with our plastic utensils proved to be a bit challenging. We both ended up with faces full of BBQ sauce. The baked beans were seasoned with maybe cinnamon ? Not really appealing to my palate. We opted for the coleslaw that was seasoned with vinegar. It was OK. The hush puppies were actually the star of the plate. Were they the best hush puppies I had ever tasted ? Probably not. But they were adequate. If we are ever in this part of SC again maybe we will stop by again and thy the pulled pork. read more

This is one of my favorite BBQ joints. It's a 45 minute drive from home but worth it. They have the best fried squash you'll find and their bbq is always fresh. I've never taken a photo because I'm too busy chowing down on the food. Over the years I've ordered about everything on the menu but my go to is always the pulled pork and ribs. Best around and worth the travel time. I always call ahead and get a rack of ribs to go. Their sides are all good but I'm just stuck on the fried squash. read more

This is probably by far the worst BBQ and service I've ever experienced; not to mention to most unsanitary. We weren't the only ones dissatisfied during our visit. Other guests complained, those complaints went no where. I didn't get what I ordered at all, when I addressed the issue (when we checked out since one one ver came back to our table to check on us) i basically got a shoulder shrug and an empty apology. I got unwarranted attitude from the female server (I also watched her respond to the bell ding of our food being ready, see that it wasn't her table then walk away so our food just sat there...), the meat (brisket, ribs, chicken, and pulled pork) was all dry as sawdust. The sides were terrible (onion rings and slaw), hush Puppies hard, dry, and flavorless. Brisket tased like it had been soaking in vinegar for a week??? It took me until about halfway through suffering through our meal to catch on to one server repeatedly saying, "sorry about that" to multiple customers. Lots of sorries but zero action to fix things. One customer got a little aggravated (rightly so from our POV) and after he left the server more or less mocked him to what it looked to be a manager. The unsanitary part was watching our server go around changing trash bags and never washing his hands before going to touch food plates. Absolutely disgusting. I should have known this was gonna be a disaster and should have walked away when I saw the woke propaganda plastered all over the walls and entry doors. Never again. read more

Super, super friendly and attentive staff. This place is dive-y, with styrofoam and plastic cutlery, but it is also one of the cleanest establishments that I've ever been in. (I was in a location from where I could see the hand washing sink, and I watched staff wash their hands up to their elbows like they were going into surgery.) Everything is kept clean. Diners are served on pie tins lined with paper. Everything else is styrofoam. The brisket is excellent. The ribs are smoky with just a little bit of spice. The pork barbecue is juicy. The hush puppies are some of the best I've ever had--moist interiors with very crisp exteriors--and just a little bit sweet. There are several types of sauces to choose from, all on each table. My barbecue-loving husband was impressed with the selection of sauces and the meat They have excellent pellet ice. The tap water is lovely, not a hint of chlorine. Coke products are served by the can. Have I mentioned the staff is delightful? So very nice and attentive. We had a great visit. read more

I've been going to Carolina BBQ for over 20 years! It has never let me down. Whether I am eating in or grabbing takeout, my food is always hot and on point! Actually now that I think about it, my order has always been correct here, just as ordered. Their sweet tea is pretty tasty, as is banana pudding! I always order the pulled pork on a bun with mustard-based BBQ sauce, French fries and baked beans. They can get pretty busy around lunch time but you can usually grab a seat at the counter if no booth or table available. It doesn't look like much on the outside, but don't let that fool you! After reading the reviews this far, I was intrigued and excited to try a great hole-in-the-wall. They have won plenty awards, for sure. We got the sampler of three meats and tried six different sides. sadly they were out of the famous green beans last night. We found the place to meet expectations, but not exceed our expectations. The ribs were slightly dry. The sauces were all more on the sweet side, when we were looking for some spice. The ambience was quiet. With BBQ, we hoped for a bit of local music on the jukebox.
