I think this was the second place we had BBQ after moving to the Carolinas. We've been to many places since and we still regularly hit this place. They're not trying to be over the top or fancy, just consistent and good. The place is almost always busy and the staff is attentive and nice. I love the Broasted Chicken. It's pressure cooked and then fried so it's super juicy and flavorful. I'm not a fan of hush puppies but theirs are really good! They used to have great Cheerwine BBQ sauce but they were out the last time we went. Hopefully next time they'll have it because that's my favorite one!

    Yum!

Traveling north and wanted to find a great place for Carolina barbecue. Looked to yelp for help, and love the reviews for Carolina barbecue. This place is the best! The servers are super friendly, it's a comfortable and casual environment, and the food is amazing! Barbecue was just the way we like it, onion rings were the best I've ever had in any restaurant, and we loved the hush puppies too (so much better without a fishy taste) Easy drive off 26, definitely worth a stop!

Wow. Loved this place. Brisket sandwich, ribs, red slaw, and Mac and cheese were our favorites. Quick and friendly service and a very clean restaurant. Loved it all and wish we lived closer.

Oh BBQ! This is a perfect stop while driving through on the interstate. The portions are generous and the house-made sauces are awesome - especially the cheerwine BBQ sauce. We were excited that we could buy the sauces and take them home. A plus: the platters come with hush puppies automatically so you get to pick two additional sides. Melvin's is a come as you are super casual spot. If you're anywhere near the area, plan a stop - you won't be sorry.

The staff is exceptionally friendly. Could not ask for more. The place is simple but quaint. The food is very good. I got 1lb. of brisket and it was excellent. Lots of smoke flavor and quite tasty. I definitely recommend this spot.

Location Corner of business 85 and Asheville highway Atmosphere Diner-casual Seating 2 large counters, tables and chairs, outdoor seating Service Immediate, friendly Food and beverage Soft drinks, iced tea. We split the ribs and bbq pork dinner with red slaw, fried okra, and hushpuppies. The serving was large-took 2 pictures. Okra was lightly breaded-so good! They said that the onion rings have the same light breading. The red slaw tastes like pepper cabbage-yum! The white slaw is more creamy. The ribs were very meaty. The pork melted in our mouth-we tried the mustard sauce-a bit spicy and very tasty. They had a-lot of to go orders went out. Another customer said they were famous for their chicken. They offer larger orders for parties-did not sell out on July4! Summary Best BBQ place in Spartanburg so far! Generous portions! Fantastic service!!!

Tuesday special: pullee BBQ Pork, baked beans, coleslaw, and hush puppies. I added a side of fried okra. Sauces are also shown.

Really good bbq for a very reasonable price. I went yesterday and a truckful of Black travelers entered not long after I did. One woman asked, "Is this place any good?" I told her it was my first time too and wished us both luck with our meals. I had the Tuesday special - 6 oz pulled pork, baked beans and coleslaw for $6 (!!!) - and I added a side of fried okra in lieu of dessert. The friendly waitress brought the store's three sauces to my table. The hot sauce reminded me of eastern North Carolina-style vinegar and pepper but without the vinegar; the mustard sauce was waaaayyyyy too sweet for my taste; and the mild was just right with a luscious thickness that helps it stick to the meat AND stick to your bones! Pleasant, unassuming atmosphere. These folks are all about the barbecue and I'll be back soon because I am too!

Quick, friendly, economical, food was good. The place was a little run down and parking was congested. Definitely would go again.

Very expensive and mediocre. It's sad when Dickie's is better and cheaper. Maybe if the prices come back down, but until then, no thanks.

However, my plans changed when I saw the menu. Instead I tried a Wagyu burger. They have five different Wagyu burgers and I settle on the one closest to a cheeseburger. It had been a long time since I had one and I was way overdue. It was delicious. For my side I tried the collard greens. They offer five different sauces to spike the collards with, but I chose to eat them with the way they came out of the kitchen - a vinegar-based splash of heat. I could've eaten a bowl of them, they too were delicious. It was a bit after lunch so it wasn't very busy. The bartender was knowledgeable about the menu, sides, entrees, apps, and sauces which helped with making my decisions prompt. The front of house is setup to handle families and groups of friends with booths and 6-top tables, however the place may fill up fast. Based on the amount of missing merch, many folks try and like and appreciate this place. Parking could be tricky, but there's more public parking on the streets than most towns I've visited, so be patient looking for on-street parking and if necessary one could use the parking garage close to the cordoned-off block where some great food on this block lives. Enjoy!
