So what I thought was a good deal turned into be a major headache! I've been on the watch for a fragrance sale and found that Bluemercury sale was better than Nordstrom although I'm an avid Nordstrom shopper. I decided to order 3 Parfums de Marly Paris fragrances at a discounted price. I was expecting the package to arrive in the evening but it showed delivered at an earlier time than expected. When I arrived home I could not locate my package at all and from the photo provided by UPS it did not show what building or door the package was left in front of. I immediately contacted Bluemercury who was less than helpful and quite rude and condescending. I was immediately told they will not help me with a UPS claim although they are the one responsible for initiating a claim, because the package was shipped from their account. In a smug condescending way I was asked about the price point of my package and advised that Ashley in upper management stated Blue Mercury would "ABSOLUTELY"not help me. After speaking with UPS they were able to verify that the photo provided was NOT proof of delivery and that could not identify exactly where the package was left. I was told directly by UPS that the merchant needed to file the claim so the investigation will be administered and a refund will be paid out to BLUEMERCURY not me as I'm not the shipper. I called BlueMercury again who was still not helpful or understanding at all. I was advised to call my credit card company and put in a dispute instead of them doing their diligence to file a claim with UPS. When you contact customer service the intro states the place for Honest, Friendly & Luxury beauty shopping. I received none of the listed. The solution was not a honest approach to the situation nor what is required from a business, Friendly was definitely not on the call with me and Luxury was questionable since my purchase amount was questioned in a condescending way. If this is a hub for Luxury beauty why is it surprising that my purchase amount reflected that? Nonetheless I would never shop with this store again or even step foot inside any of their brick & mortars located through out the city. A brand that has several locations inside the heart of New York City, should be aware of known issues. Packages being misdelivered or stolen is not surprising living in NYC these issues should be met with a little empathy and helpfulness. It would have took nothing for Bluemercury to start a UPS claim and if that investigation was not in favor, they could've relinquished the information and THEN advised me to file a credit card dispute. Horrible company that is not worth the risk! customers need reassurance and real solutions when purchasing from merchants that sell high price goods. If anything happens to your order this company WILL NOT HELP YOU. read more

talk about pushy sales people! you walk into the store letting the salesperson know you want to look at a specific product and they immediately show you some brand you have no interest in. this has happened to me on multiple occasions. and if you don't buy what they're pushing they basically walk away. Run, don't walk, to see Vanessa for your facials!!!! I started seeing her about four months ago, and my skin has **never** looked better. In the days after a facial from her, I get nonstop (seriously, nonstop!!) compliments on my skin. I've even gotten compliments not in-person but via FaceTime... so clearly, she's doing something right! Vanessa takes her time, doesn't skimp on products, and remembers - from facial to facial - what your skin needs, and what issues you had before. She's great about asking questions about your skin type, identifying what issues you may be dealing with, and recommending products at your preferred price point to try out. Unlike most estheticians, Vanessa doesn't push you to buy products - but encourages you to see how your skin feels after the facial, try a few samples, and then come back to purchase if you feel like they're a good fit for you. It's clear she loves what she does, and really values her clients and takes their feedback very seriously. I've been to a ton of estheticians in New York (and in DC and Chicago!) and none of them are even close to as good as Vanessa. (P.S. I usually just call and request a facial with her, rather than specifying which one, and she customizes the treatment to whatever my skin needs.) read more

Quite surprised that this Blue Mercury location doesn't exist on Yelp yet! It's probably my favorite location in the city - I've been to the two UWS stores and I find this one significantly more pleasant. It must be relatively new. I've been here four or five times at this point as I seem to only remember that I need to replenish my makeup/hair product supplies while I'm at work. One day, just a month or two ago, I was strolling down 6th ave during my lunch break and I stumbled upon this store. Blue Mercury carries almost all of the makeup I use, as well as my favorite candles and makeup - so coming here in a no-brainer for me (unless I REALLY need something at Sephora...though no one really NEEDS makeup, I suppose). What makes this store more enjoyable than most is the space itself and the fantastic sales associates. The space is big and inviting - it seems a lot more approachable than the UWS locations, which seem a bit cramped. There's also far more natural light inside at this spot, which I've noticed makes the shopping experience at bit more cheery. The sales associates are all awesome. I think I've been helped by three or four different people, and they've all been absolutely delightful. A lot of Blue Mercury employees have been accused of having "attitude" at other locations - here, there's no pretentiousness to be found. These folks are down to earth and eager to help - it's really a breath of fresh air (especially during a lunch break, when most people walking around are HANGRY...the worst combination). They've retrieved whatever I have asked for quickly and with a smile. You know you've lived in New York when you're surprised that pleasantries are being exchanged among strangers. Last note: props to this one chick in particular, who encouraged me to try a new eyeliner they had just gotten in stock. I was looking to replace my Bobbi Brown pencil, and added that it was the only eyeliner I had found that could reliably stay on my water line - most fail miserably at this. The associate directed me to a fairly new product which is designed for exactly this problem. Satisfaction level has been through the roof - could not be more impressed by this product. read more

Vanessa was recommended to me by the store manager Aracely and I will FOREVER BE GRATEFUL TO THESE LADIES!!! I read all the yelp reviews after the recommendation and before my appointment and the proof is in the pudding. Not only was Vanessa (and Aracely!) so sweet and personable, but she took her time with asking me questions beforehand and finding out what I hoped to achieve with my facial. As for the Fusion facial... I'm pretty sure some sort of sorcery took place in that spa room. I was sold by the massage during the cleansing stage and she had only just started. I got the glycolic peel as well as the oxygen blast and Vanessa did just what I asked--she made my pores her bi**h. All the congestion and blackheads? GONE. The crap around my nose that wouldnt leave no matter what I did? GONE GONE GONE. It's hours later and I'm still glowing. I'm dreading washing my face before bed because I dont want my glow to go away, but something tells me with Vanessa's magic, the glow is here to stay. ALSO because I know this is important for some folks: she's amazing at going with social cues. She let me make her ears bleed with my witty banter, but when I got so relaxed from her magical hands, she was quiet and focused on the facial. I know some people say they have an esty who chats throughout the entire facial which can be very offputting as it's meant to be relaxing, but I was so relaxed I almost fell asleep during the extraction---and by the way, the extraction was fine. It didn't hurt and I'm not super red and blotchy. I thought I'd walk out looking like a pepperoni pizza but I didnt!! Vanessa also recommended a few products that she felt would work on my sensitive skin (I didnt know I had sensitive skin until today!) BUT she did not hound me to buy them. She let me take a photo so I could buy them when I got the chance (and the money because sadly Ive yet to win mega millions). Needless to say, I'll be back. Hooray for this Bluemercury store!! We had a group of four who needed "natural" makeup for a wedding. The store manager, Travis, was so nice and dealt with my multiple calls and my need to change appointment times. He made sure they were ready for us and arranged staffing to give us the perfect experience! There was no product sales pressure (relief) and the artists, Tad and Chanelle, really listened to our goals and made sure we all had fun! Highly recommend!! read more

You can definitely tell when a white person isn't used to dealing with minorities because of the insensitive comments they make. I've been into a couple of the Blue Mercury stores in the SF Bay Area, but this was my first experience where I actually made a purchase. The sales associates were really helpful. I had a very good experience and found everything I've been looking for but haven't been able to find in other shops. I'm particularly happy that the male associate, didn't get his name, turned me onto the Trish McEvoy brow mascara. It's amazing. And another associate introduced me to a Dermalogica face cleanser (that I love!) and a B&B dry shampoo. Great overall service -nice, knowledgeable employees. Great selection of brands and products. Store was very clean and well-organized. I will be back when I'm in town again. read more

This is the best Blue location I've ever been to! The store manager Aricele was amazing! She helped me try several foundations, her 1st recommendation wasn't great (and she agreed) and so she kept looking until we found the right one. We also found a great concealer & eyebrow pencil that brought my face to a new level! I had so much fun I didn't want to leave! I will go out of my way to go back to this store. read more

Came here for a facial with Vanessa, the absolute best facial ever! I was her only client of the night and she really took her time with me. I was there for 2 hours receiving the most thorough most amazing facial ever! We spoke about my skin concerns and what I was looking for out of the facial, she customized it to my needs and explained everything. She answered all of my questions and made me feel comfortable. She was also so easy to talk to and made me feel totally relaxed the entire time. I've been coming to this Blue Mercury location for quite some time, I love their products. But lately I have been coming there to see Vanessa, to get my facials. The wonders she has done for my skin has been just fantastic. My skin has never looked or felt better. We usually always do the fusion facial. I recently also tried the microdermabrasion since my skin was beginning to look a little dull due to the cold NY weather. Everything Vanessa recommends is just exactly what my skin needs. I used to be a Bliss girl, now I'm totally up for whatever Vanessa suggests. Apart from being such a wonderful aesthetician, she is also such a sweet soul. what a terrible place ! I walked in last Saturday and I was 1 of 2 customers in the store. There were 2 sales associates , (1 female, 1 male w/ tattooed wrist) I was never asked if I needed help or had any questions, and felt ignored and unwelcomed. It's too bad that I came from afar and had to just help myself. The 2 store associates had friends walk in and visit them after I had walked in ... these friends were a lot more fabulous than me and from that moment forward I was not to be reckoned with. or acknowledged. It's like they were throwing themselves a party and I wasn't invited, lol . Very unprofessional. I worked in makeup retail for 7 years and I'll be damned if I ever acted that way. At one point I asked the tattooed guy for a sponge to try makeup on and he responded as though I was stupid for nothing knowing where they were. I worked for multiple prestigious makeup lines and had a customer asked me a question like that, about trying makeup on, that's when you walk with the customer to the applicators , clean the product for them, talk to them about the product, make suggestions, etc. It's too bad because I would have given these guys a great sale. I'll get better customer service on the internet going forward apparently. Won't be back to this lazy incompetent place. read more

I had previously had great service at this location until today. I walked in to buy a product I normally buy but forgot to bring in the used tube so did not have the color on hand. I asked to see a sample to make sure that the color was the right shade however they had just ran out. When I asked if they could open another sample the man said no, we only get them from the vendor, our customers usually know what color they want. How am I supposed to but make up without seeing the color of the product I am purchasing? On top of it they were rude and did not offer any alternative solutions. No wonder why this location is always empty. read more

Just was there today for my first time! Went in for conditioner and left with makeup and conditioner ' very happy I stopped in the staff was wonderful! Couldn't be more friendlier or. I walked into the store and only one person was working and I was the only customer. The associate doesn't even look up and acknowledge that I am in the store and need assistance because the makeup is always in drawers. A second person comes into the store and she gets off her phone to help her and asks if she needs anything. Bluemercury needs to work on their customer service or put things out so people can get what they need on their own if they are going to have incompetent people working. read more

She takes her time to get to know your exact concerns and ALL of her recommendations (both products and things I can do at home that don't cost $$) have seriously improved my skin. With so many options, it's so nice to have found "my girl" and someone I can fully trust with all my skin care needs. I leave with clear and glowing skin, despite the breakouts I have going in. Plus- her massage is fantastic and she is super nice/never annoying. She makes sure you are comfortable with everything she does and is upfront about any added costs. I'm on the fence about this place. While I love their wide array of high end beauty products and adore some of their sales staff (I hate that I can't remember her name, but the beautiful young woman with blonde hair that is sometimes interesting colors like lavender...she's hard to miss...is amazing), I've decided that I hate it when they have brand reps there, and I'm going to avoid going when that's happening. Here's why- Brand reps don't have tags that announce which brand they're repping, so you think you're being helped by an unbiased staff member. Then of course they steer you to whatever they're promoting, whether it be Laura Mercier or Darphin. This is unethical, because you're looking for the item that best meets your needs, not the best item FROM ONE BRAND that meets your needs. I have now been persuaded to buy three items this way. I kept the Laura Mercier items since I was happy with those, but today I returned the Darphin item because I felt it was simply too expensive, and I found a product by Fresh that I felt worked better and was a third of the cost. The Darphin rep was perfectly nice, and it's the practice I'm condemning, not the individuals hired to do it. It's actually Blue Mercury making that poor choice, so I should probably end my patronage altogether. I resent that this store thinks women are so vapid that they won't realize they're being manipulated. I believe smart women can be makeup lovers. We understand that beauty is power, whether it should be or not, and that's pretty smart. I have to add, as a side note, that I feel the staff here are a bit judgy when I return things. I keep around 3/4 of the items I buy at BM, which I think is completely reasonable. When I told the associate who handled my return today that I felt slightly pressured to buy the Darphin item because the carrot of a substantial free sample was held in front of my face and was conditional to the purchase, he said I should control myself better instead of being persuaded. He did so in a jovial, friendly way, but it still felt inappropriate. Unopened items should be accepted for return without question, and customers who shop there as frequently as I do should certainly not be made to feel judged. read more

I don't even understand how this shop can exist as a profitable, ethical business. Is everybody that blind in the higher offices of Blue Mercury/Macy's?? - Openly rude, racist, disinterested staff. Not sure how there isn't a law suit or a leaked video already! - Clueless about products on their own shelves; average customer knows better about recent colors/launches - Only reason they get any sales done is because of the location of the store, the brands they carry (also available at Sephora and elsewhere, so it's not exclusive, just convenient) AND some thick skin on part of customers to not throw up on the staff's behaviour - Every once in a while there will be a different set of staff members in the store and it will feel like a whole new world, but for the most part, I have never seen a more lazy, vicious group manning any store or restaurant or salon or service in NYC - And NO getting friends/family/one random customer to write in a positive review does not change anything - I and my friend actually found everything we wanted in the store - but decided not to buy here ONLY because of the staff - walked over to Sephora and got it there instead - Their samples are always missing! And they can't take out new boxes for sampling! It's a ridiculous arrangement! - We plan to go back to the store - for creating the said video in point 1 above - after which its straight to every single company stakeholder, You Tube, FB and the rest - I never review. I had one of the best facials at this Blue Mercury location. My esthetician, Vanessa, was fabulous! Very attentive and knowledgeable, she made my skin look and feel baby-smooth and ultra-hydrated. I've been coming here for years and the service has gone downhill in the recent months. Most of the shop assistants are very friendly, but there is this one girl (young brunette, don't know her name) that I kept seeing recently who is extremely rude. She never smiles (or smiles back when I do), never offers to help, and just plain stares at me when I use the testers. Once she took the wrong mascara for me, and I was the one finding it out after already paid for it. I then had to spent another unnecessary 5 minutes for her to clumsily process the refund... She was at the store for months at least at that point. Also, the store recently put up locked glasses on the shelters. I had to ask an assistant to use the key to open it up, try the products while she stands next to me and watches over my shoulder - geez I could almost feel the impatience boiling over. I understand that the store probably experienced some loss or whatever, but treating all customers as potential thieves is not the way to do business. There are plenty of options in nyc, so needless to say I will not be coming back. Such a shame cause I loved coming here. (The Bluemercury on 6th is still great though. ) read more

Wow, I'm surprised at all the bad reviews. I had a good experience when I came in the other day. It was on a weekend but the store was empty except for the salespeople. One of them asked me right away if I needed help with anything. She was super friendly. I was returning a product that I bought online due to the customer service recommendation. I also got an extra sample of it when I ordered and when I tried the sample I got a really bad skin reaction. The woman was really empathetic and took the return for the unopened item and even offered me a bunch of different foil samples to try out. I was pleased with the service. read more

The store itself is pretty cool and well stocked with high end skin essentials, among other things. But my review is for the facials that they now do in the back, which are fantastic. After a transatlantic flight and lots of stress over moving, my skin was in full freakout mode and in desperate need of TLC. The facial was great and the facialist was really knowledgeable and inspired confidence. She used Darphin products, which I of course then stocked up on after the facial. This was a month ago and with the facial and steady use of the products she recommended, my skin is literally the best it's ever been - glowy and smooth and happy! Recently visited the spa and got the facial of my LIFE! I'm a bit of a spa junkie and was a little skeptical of a store like environment as i generally wouldn't consider it. Anyway, what started as a visit for products ended up with my skin absolutely glowing! Vanessa was my esthetician and was amazing as she really listened to my concerns. I didn't feel like she was rushing through it or going through the motions and my face was GLOWING afterwards. I was skeptical about paying extra for the brightening facial but it was worth it and the skinceutical products i picked up have really been working so far. I've seen this happen when I walked in with friends. and somehow they got me too.. went in for La Mer but they push Darphin... asked about another product and they dismissed it and said i needed to try the Darphin version... Nichelle is amazing! Go see her! I recently went into the Bluemercury Chelsea and received a facial from Nichelle. I was thoroughly impressed with her approach. She analyzed my dry skin and provided me with options without being pushy. I hate when I feel like someone is trying to sell me on a service. The facial was relaxing with the right amount of explanation but not too much talking. Her extractions were gentle and I loved the oxygen therapy at the end. She even customized the products she used by getting a moisturizer from retail she suggested I use at home. I will definitely be back! read more

The employees could not be ruder or less helpful if they made an effort. The manager may have been the rudest of them all. Patronizing does not begin to describe them. I wasn't given a gift receipt (during the holidays) and despite the fact that my gift was beautifully packaged in their box, it was (not so casually) suggested that I stole the items so that I could obtain a gift card. How odd. If I was a thief, I'm pretty sure I'd steal the items I actually want. In any case, corporate customer service responded to my complaint with a polite phone call, an offer to send a gift card, and a promise to receive a call from someone who would help me return my gift. I received neither the gift card nor the phone call. I'll stick to spending my money at Sephora's, Khiel's, and any number of their competitors. read more

Why are Blue Mercurys so horrible? Every single location I go (UWS, Midtown East, Flatiron), I find the salespeople very unfriendly or just not good at their jobs. I just went to the Grand Central Station location (new) to buy Mario Badescu (every other item I can buy at Sephora) and made the mistake of asking a sales person for a price check, and the difference between the three different types of setting powders for Laura Mercier - invisible, transluscent and shine control. First, it took forever to pull up the price, then she went onto say "well this one is invisible, so it should feel invisible on your skin, this one is more transluscent, so you can see it's sort of invisible, and the shine control - is green (powder itself was slightly greener than others).' I was a bit speechless so I asked again WHY they are different, and she proceeded to say 'Like I told you --' and went onto give me her expert opinion as before - Invisible is invisible, Translucent is LIKE invisible, and Shine Control is green. WOW lol Not only was she extremely unfriendly in a store that was NOT busy she also had no idea how unprofessional and unknowledgeable she sounded. I mean, just lie if you have to! I purchased my items but it'll be the first and last time I go to this location. Thanks for the tote bag I guess. read more
