Very bad customer service, staff there is not welcoming at all, when you ask any promotions, they sure you want to buy something cheap.

The University Village Blue Mercury is a great location and love the new remodel. I have had great customer service there until today. The person that helped me was so unwelcoming starting with the stone-faced stare asking me if I "needed something?" to later talking with her back to me when I asked to set up a consult for eye products with Ariel her colleague. Seemed she couldn't be bothered to turn and face me for our dialog. (Aerial had helped me previously and gave great advice on products resulting in a purchase so I wanted to consult further with her). The woman I met there today, who never mentioned her name, was so cold and dismissive. I hope Blue Mercury mgt sees this review as this was not the regular service that local customers usually see at this business. Not really excited to return now. read more

I've gone back and forth about writing this review but feel it's necessary to share my experience. Like some, I made the transition from Sephora to Blue Mercury about 2 years ago because of broader and more premium brand selection as I got older and grew out of Sephora. In fact, it was because of an extraordinary customer experience in Portland that I made the switch, but the moral of this story (review) is that loyalty can be built fast, but lost far faster. In turn, my latest experience has confirmed I'll never buy from this company again simply based on how much they don't value their customers. I was patient and more than understanding throughout the last few months, providing ample opportunities for BM to turn it around. But alas, here we are. In August, the company sent out an email promoting $20 off when you try the new no-touch personal beauty consultation. I've attached screenshots if curious. I immediately dialed my local shop, as I assumed this was going to be a hot deal! When I called, the gal had no idea what promotion I was talking about - this is so unprofessional. But, I walked her through the email I received. I also asked her I want to know if there's a zoom option to do a virtual consult or if they can talk to me on the phone, as I was looking for a new eye cream but wasn't yet comfortable being in a store. I offered to come up to the door so they can see my skin, etc but over the phone. The lady shut me down so fast and said they couldn't offer any of that and that she didn't even know what a no-touch consult was. I asked to speak to the manager, she was the manager on duty. It was such a robotic answer that just required listening to the customer and meeting me where I was comfortable - especially during Covid...I asked for the manager to call me as soon as they were in. I haven't heard from that manager to this day. Immediately after this experience, I called the corporate customer service number to express my frustration in hopes of saving others time and a horrible customer experience. I explained my story and was genuinely apologized to. I was promised a call back from a supervisor on Monday (since I called on the weekend). I expressed how important it was to voice my concern but how I was also interested in the deal because it was only good for a week. There was urgency in correcting this issue and educating the store so I could go in to redeem. No one called me that Monday or that week for that matter. Over the next three months, I reached out to BM's customer service team no less than 4 additional times. Each time, I re-explained the entire situation, which was draining, and was promised a manager/supervisor would call me back and how shocked they were each time I had to call back. The genuine vibe I got about the apologies dissipated and I quickly understood this was the avoidant run-around they provided, rather than just making the situation right. To this day, no manager has called me. Yet I was assured there was an escalated case written up that could not be ignored (each time). I wrote all this out because this experience is the reason I have gone back to Sephora. Though their product selection might be less broad, they have never treated me close to how I felt at every interaction with the Blue Mercury team, except that initial experience. It's a shame but there are too many competitors out there these days - treat your customers how you'd want to be treated. And have empathy and own your mistakes. Customers appreciate vulnerability and are understanding when you try to make it right. read more

I needed to buy some skinceuticals moisturizer since I'm restarting tretinoin. I was checking out and mentioned that I was getting something heavy because I'm restarting the medication. The salesperson asked me why, told me that that was too strong, and asked me if I was doing this with a dermatologist. She gave me a sample of a different product (that, of course, she sells). Around here, there are really only a few beauty counters that rise to my high standards. It's pretty much just Nordstrom. I only go to the other places (Ulta and Sephora) for Fenty. My favorite shop for skincare is in L.A. called Violet Grey and Blue Mercury doesn't have that L.A. vibe, but it's got a lot of good products that I can't get anywhere else locally. This sets them apart but the service does as well. There was one person working when I visited the shop last weekend and they were helping others but were quick to greet me. They took care of me right away after helping the other folks. It's a bit of a drive but I'm willing to drive for good service and quality skincare products. read more

If you like to quietly browse when shopping for skincare, Bluemercury probably isn't for you. The shelves are packed, organized by brand (many of them medspa brands rather than mass market) and thus best navigated by their wonderful customer service staff - Destiny helped me select a moisturizer that wouldn't interact with my skin condition yesterday I'd say their stock (Skinceuticals, Trish McEvoy, Dermalogica) is "luxury" but it's really just more medical, which I need for my skin condition. Being a delicate flower isn't cheap. They have amazing prices on facial services! Every month, there's a brand associated hour long facial for $95 that includes two half size samples from that brand (different for your skin needs). $95 for a facial is a great price! Getting the half size sample makes this a great place to do a monthly facial. read more

Horrible customer service! I love BM but this store sales people could not be more "put out!" buy their customers ( which they are losing rapidly by the emptiness of the store.). I simply came in looking for replacements for my products and they could care less. Order online or go to Nordstrom or even Sephora. Steer clear, save your time and money. read more

DO NOT SHOP IF YOU ARE OUT OF TOWN. I had a surprising experience when I purchased and tried to return a few of the products due to color mismatch and sensitivity. I asked while in-store about their policy for return and it was within 30-days. I did not realize any returns or exchanges needed to be in-person with credit card in hand. This policy has hampered a good employee's (Carmen's) attempt to help me out, it is antiquated and surprising for a boutique store carrying such high-end products. Even though this store has all my favorite brands, I have to say the in-store-only policy is very limiting. I would have ordered more products online or over the phone but the policy reminds of of why I am a Sephora VIB member for both in-store and online service. read more

Love this place. I highly recommend checking it out--after a lunch at Din Tai Fung (great Taiwanese food). Think of it as a high-end Sephora, but for people with more refinement. (ie: it's not mass-market--just beautiful products at great prices) Plus, they have cool items for the home--candles, etc. Great for a unique house-warming, dinner-party gift. Purchased Fresh Hesperides Grapefruit perfume online on Thursday, August 1st, 2019. The website stated "2 day shipping". I was expecting the product on Saturday. Apparently not! I emailed on Saturday and was told it would be shipped out on Monday, as they do not work weekends. When I did not receive a shipping confirmation by Tuesday I emailed again. Was told my order had processed, but was not confirmed.....??? I was told that my order could not be sent via airfreight as it was a perfume, so they had to ground ship. I did not receive my product until Thursday, August 15th. It took 2 weeks to arrive from date of order. DO NOT believe the "2 day shipping" Bluemercury claims. Completely false. read more

I've been shopping at Blue Mercury since it first opened a UVillage a few years ago. The staff and service started out great and consistent but with staffing changes, service eventually went so downhill that I had to stop shopping here until about 6+ months ago. Fast forward to today, I really needed some product that I only they carry (M-61 power pads) and decided to give the store another try. I'm so happy I did. Candice/Candi advised me some other products to help with my concerns and loaded me up with samples to try at home. Her sales style was informative, non-pressure and genuine. She was so helpful that i purchased way more than i had planned and I have no regrets about returning to the store again. The manager, Carmen, was also fantastic. I'm looking forward to returning to the store the next time I need new product. Rated 4 star because I'm still a little traumatized my past visit; will need a few great visits like today before I can gave a 5 star. read more

Updated- Went in last week during the sale. Overpressured sales and not enough product knowledge from some of the employees. If you are selling 300 eye cream- know the brand. I'm also sure I ended up with a already opened cream. Too many staff standing around doing nothing and not a great experience. good selection of lines and makeup. The store has a lot of great brands but from my experience some of the employees, although friendly, were really into product pushing and didn't have much product knowledge on a lot of brands. Also I had a brand rep called over and she did all sorts of masks on my hands when I was simply searching for a moisturizer. I felt very uncomfortable (there's also a security guard?) so I ran back to my tried and true Follain. read more

I'm officially obsessed with this store. I love every single product they offer and they have such a gorgeous space! I had no idea they also had a spa until I was at the cash register buying my Moroccan Oil Repair conditioner and saw the spa pamphlets. The super nice girl at the register dropped one in my bag along with a nice handful of samples of Oribe shampoo and conditioner, strawberry face scrub, a glycolic mask, and Darphin anti-aging cream. Some of the brands they carry are Nars (love!), Bobbi Brown, Trish McEvoy, Kiehl's, Molton Brown, La Mer, and Skinceuticals, just to name a few. Seriously, it's like a super fancy Sephora. CHECK YOUR ITEMS!! I like to edit my look periodically, and so I spent about an hour with a very nice saleswoman who helped me select all new makeup which I was very happy with. However, she sent me home with the wrong lipstick - and with the brush, but not the powder foundation that went with it. Called their store, and was told that they can't do anything for me over the phone or shipping - I MUST come into their store in person. U village is one of the most inconvenient locations and I am surprised and disappointed that they don't offer better customer service. Especially since I spent about $500 with them in one visit. What Nordstrom's lacks, this little spot makes up in skincare on site. I'm already a devotee to Uvillage and it's upscale shops, so this made a nice addition. Where else can you find La Mer without skipping into downtown. The ladies here have always been uber friendly, never once have I not been greeted and treated to some mini free samples. When in doubt about a skincare product, just ask for a sample because they freely give them out here! read more

I came here looking for a moisturizer since I get so dry during the colder seasons. I would normally go to the sephora in this mall, but their service is horrible. The nice salesperson asked me about my skin type and found the perfect item for me. I snagged a Trish McEvoy beauty booster cream and the beauty booster eye serum. These are items that Sephora does not carry. Since this mall does not have a Nordstrom, it's nice having this place around since they carry a pretty decent amount of high end cosmetics and skin care. I really loved the service I received here just last weekend. I walked in looking for shampoo and I was immediately greated by two friendly ladies. They offered their help and were extremely helpful with their suggestions. When checking out, they asked what kind of samples I would like and sent me on my way with some amazing skincare products!
