I have always trusted this hospital with my animals, but last night's experience has made me question if this is the right emergency hospital to continue using in the future. We brought our cat in because we suspected he may have swallowed a bread tie. Our plan from the start was to have an x-ray taken (since the metal in a bread tie is radiopaque and should be visible). When we arrived, we explained our concerns to the nurse and asked what the best course of action would be. The nurse advised that inducing vomiting would be the best option, explaining that an x-ray might not show anything and that they would likely induce vomiting anyway. We trusted that advice, even though it conflicted with our initial plan because we wanted to do what was best for our cat. After the medication was given, we were informed that inducing vomiting wasn't working. At that point, the veterinarian told us that an x-ray would, in fact, show the bread tie 99% of the time, which directly conflicted with what we had been told earlier. We then proceeded with the x-ray, which was what we had wanted to do in the first place. Before discharge, I specifically asked if there was anything to be concerned about at home regarding the medications given. There was no mention that excessive drooling or foaming from the mouth could occur for hours afterward, something that was extremely alarming to see once we were home. After reviewing the discharge paperwork, I noticed it stated that we were informed that inducing vomiting is only 50% successful. That information was never communicated to us before treatment. I feel horrible knowing my cat went through hours of nausea, vomiting, and distress unnecessarily because we weren't properly informed of the likelihood of success upfront. To make matters worse, the medication added over $100 to our bill. I'd like to believe this was simply a miscommunication and not an attempt to increase costs, but if it wasn't, that's incredibly disappointing. read more

These folks are amazing. Over the years we've taken our dogs here for emergency care. Everyone here is great. The service is outstanding. There was even a time we weren't charged because our dog seemed to cure himself as soon as they took him to the exam room. They misdiagnosed my dog, claiming he was suffering from internal bleeding as the cause of his anemia. They insisted he be admitted immediately for blood transfusions and extensive testing, warning us that he would "bleed out" if we took him home. That was simply not true. We chose to seek a second opinion, and the other veterinarian identified the real issue--a severe oral infection. They performed a dental cleaning and extractions, and we treated our dog with a steroid to suppress the immune response. Within just a few days, our dog was healthy, energetic, and completely back to normal. This first vet not only tried to push us into thousands of dollars in unnecessary procedures, but they have refused to acknowledge the misdiagnosis or issue any refund. It's very clear they know how to pull on the heartstrings of worried pet owners, but at the end of the day it feels like profit comes first, not the well-being of the animals. While they may help in emergencies, they should be held accountable when they get it wrong. well since a manager refuses to call me back I'll make sure everyone know exactly what to expect if you bring your dog in on a weekend for a possible leg injury. first off I called before I even left my house because it's a weekend and I know they don't always have everyone who is needed on staff and I was told to come in. they had my 14 year old dog Mojo (go ahead blue pearl look up our file) for 6 entire hours and sent us home with a bill for over 300 bucks saying that they didn't know what was wrong with him and because there is no ortho they can't be sure. let me point out that while we were there I watched 3 couples come in with "possible leg issues" have someone come out, assess the situation and send them home UNCHARGED because they couldn't help them that day. my biggest complaint isn't even that part, they had my dog for 6 hours and he was apparently assessed in the back yet no vet or technician noticed his eyes tracking, his head tilting and that it was actually a balance issue. I got home, and knew it was not a "possible strain" so I called pets furst urgent care and gave them the same story I gave to bluepearl when I first called and the receptionist immediately said that sounds inner ear/neurological please bring him in. I did and was in and out within an hour and my dog was diagnosed with idiopathic vestibular disease (doggy vertigo). what a FAILURE on blue pearl for not being able to figure that out. great job profiling who you think is best to charge vs not. people who love your pets, save yourself time and money, go to pets furst urgent care by Bonefish. they will actually help you, funny thing is that I was not the only person there who had just spent hours at bluepearl with no answers. read more

They were wonderful with my pet but I was lied to and told that they took our pet insurance when they didn't. I was told I had to pay the 7000 bill up front and they would then submit to the insurance company but then after the surgery was done I was told they didn't take it. I would have just had my dogs surgery done at our local vet 10 min from our home if I was told up front that they didn't take it. The drive is now 45 min! Horrible! They care about money. Not your pets and not you. U walked in with a sick pet and walked out of there alone. No explanation as to how or why things escalated so quickly where my pet had to be put down. My baby was not like that when I took him in there. ALL ABOUT THE MONEY? 2ND OPINION, IF POSSIBLE. We brought our dog (Jagger / 9yrs old) to BluePearl, on Sat 1/20/24, for coughing and fast heart rate (previously diagnosed by PVD with a heart murmur). We were told Jagger was in heart failure and needed to stay the weekend (total cost $7,000). A Vet Cardiologist could see him on Monday. If we did take Jagger home, it was against medical advice and to consider euthanizing at home. Although, Blue Pearl advised he may die at the Hospital and we would still owe $6,000 (weekend stay). As we were not allowed to see him while he was in Blue Pearl Pet Hospital, and did not want Jagger to die with strangers, we took him home. Blue Pearl Cost $865 with 1 week of medication: We do appreciate that they prescribed medication to take home. 2nd OPINION - A friend recommend a Vet Cardiologist (travels to Vet Clinics) that would be at Quakertown Vet Clinic Monday 1/22/24 (1hr from us). We were lucky and grateful that he would squeeze us in on Monday night. He did diagnose Jagger with an enlarged heart. Although, he was not going to die in a few days and it could be managed with heart medication and a no sodium diet. His cost was $725 + $400 for 3 months of medication. To Note: As I left Blue Pearl (w/Jagger), I overheard a woman (on the phone) saying that her dog was in heart failure and BluePearl wanted to keep her dog for a week (cost $6,000). She was crying and didn't know what to do as she didn't have the money. As she was on the phone, I said to her "Our dog too", which may have been too intrusive, but I felt for her. I think of her and hope her dog is ok. Although, BluePearl staff and Vet were nice, I cannot help to wonder if they make pet owners feel their only option is to keep their loved one (pet) at BluePearl and pay thousands out of pocket. read more

i just want to start off by saying thank you this hospital has by biggest thanks and i'm so so grateful to them for saving my baby they were very detailed in every step of the process, i didn't have insurance so it was a bit pricey but they made sure to consult with me on every single thing to make sure it would be okay for me. A few weeks after my Teacup Yorkie Bucky arrived, he started exhibiting a bad limp. My Vet diagnosed it as Perthes disease, where the ball joint in his left rear was dying and crumbling in the socket creating pain. I did some research and found a doctor that had done 1000's of these locally - Dr. Popovitch. She and the whole Veteran's Hwy Blue Pearl team had a wonderful approach and she did a FHO on Bucks. He's been pain free since. So, when I started seeing blood in his stool a week ago, I got really concerned and brought him back, as it was past 10pm and my PCV was closed. He was diagnosed quickly as having slight colitis, which was a big relief to me. Nothing too serious for my dude. BP prescribed an anti-biotic and it cleared up in 2 days. Pros: Nice, caring, respectful folks and a clean, impressive facility. Cons: $280 to walk through the door. I experienced an eight-hour wait for a feline ear infection. You have to be proactive with staff and do not hesitate to approach and question your status, or they'll let you sit there forever. The front office staff openly lounges, socializes, and feasts at the front desk, which I find unprofessional, especially when you're a concerned fur baby parent subject to an all-day wait. Be prepared to be upsold on procedures. Listen to the doctor's diagnosis and pitch to be sure if those procedures are necessary at the moment, they're trying to upsell you. Although my doctor was young, (and for what they charge), I'd have felt more reassured and comfortable if she had exhibited more confidence and wasn't glued to the written documentation in front of her. The directions provided with the medication were contradictory and incorrectly written. When questioned, staff tried to candy-coat this, saying they were "a little off," which I found remarkable since "a little off" can mean the difference between life and death. Names of medications were not written on the label, which I found odd. Overall, I would recommend this clinic. However, it's important to be aware of the most fiscally prudent option for your pet's condition. The main challenges seem to be administrative and back-office related, and there is a possibility of being upsold on procedures. It's advisable to carefully consider the necessity of these procedures before agreeing to them. read more

Dr. Deahl was so thorough and explained everything. She made me feel very re-assured that I was making the right decision for my dog given the surgery was invasive and she was at higher risk for complications. Our dog has been recovering well and has been doing well so far after the surgery. The nursing staff was warm and compassionate. They answered all my questions and got back to me when I called or texted (love the texting feature!) they took care of my dog overnight and I could tell she was in good hands. Just witnessing the staff with other pets and their families you can tell the compassion and patience they have is sincere. It is a busy clinic/ ER but it didn't stop the kindness and patience. Lucy was diagnosed as being an epileptic and she had a lung infection she stayed at blue pearl she weighed 5pounds then with all there care My sweet Lucy came home! Maybe they are good to some but my experience has been pretty lousy. The person who answered the emergency line, shouldn't. All she did was upset me. All I asked was I needed insulin for my sick cat, who by the way was recently at my long time vet eariler in the week. I just realized the insulin I was given him had expired and I just needed a refill or just enough till I could get him to my regular vet. She mumbled on about paper prescriptions and I asked her I can't just get a refill for him and I got the , your not in the system. So in my frustration I asked, I guess my cat has to suffer til Monday. She quickly got nasty with me. This was Sat, Apr 8th. I'm sorry, I don't like to be negative to anyone, but whoever this person was she should not be answering the emergency line. I took my dog in because she was limping and our Vet was closed. They checked her in at 5pm and then let her sit alone and scared in a room for over 4 hours. She did NOT have an X-ray or bloodwork and after 5 1/2 hours we went into the lobby to find everyone doing absolutely nothing. SHE HAD ALREADY BEEN CLEARED TO LEAVE over an hour before that. The vet there suspected 2 torn ACLs and gave her pain medication that doesn't even start to work and give her relief until at least 2 days. $300 and 5 1/2 hours later...she still needs to see her regular Vet for REAL CARE. I have a 15month old Rottweiler, Mia, who has been having vomiting off and on for the last five months. Her vets office wasn't finding the reason. And nothing was helping. I have taken both my dog and my cat to BluePearl for care, and I trust their expertise and care wholeheartedly. When my dog was a puppy, he ripped into a bottle of windex that my cat knocked on the floor-- BluePearl saw him immediately and assisted with calling poison control. Then about 6 months later, my dog got into a bag of Hershey kisses (and being my first dog, I was sure my ignorance was going to kill him). Luckily he is a lab and german shepard mix, so his weight balanced out the amount he ate. As the nurse at BluePearl calmly said to me, "he just had himself a tasty treat." But the past 2 months, I have been at BluePearl for my cat three times. One day out of nowhere, he was in so much pain and screamed when I tried to hold him. He was diagnosed at blue pearl with urinary crystals, which is common for male cats, and is treated with pain medication and dietary changes. Fast forward to my cat needing PU surgery through my vet and my cat having increased incontinence after his sutures were removed. I knew I had to go to BluePearl because I trusted them to thoroughly assess my cat and I wanted their staff to reassure me that my "regular vet" did everything correctly in terms of surgery and after care.
