Hmm...I came in with medical issues that needed serious treatments. Dr. Avery would keep giving me…read moresample medications to see how they worked. Nothing he gave me worked to manage my blood pressure which was always through the roof. He is so rude as well. Everytime I've walking in there the staff was half way decent but I was always waiting for more than an hour past the time I was to be seen. He would always give me whatever medicine some company sent him to give out samples. He never tried to give me a legit prescription to treat my issues. He also bragged about be hated ao much by patient's. He is a piece of work. The last straw was when I waited 2 and a half hours. At this point I knew it would end bad because he would rush through and not answer my questions. Apparently he had a clause where you can only see him for one issue at a time. I came in, i told him my issue, and I asked him to just look at my foot because there was a dark spot on the bottom being diabetic i was concerned and didn't think it was a big deal. He then proceeded to tell me "i'm on of those people"...i looked at him and asked what he meant. I said, I need to make a new appointment just to have you tell me if this is dangerous or not!? I started grabbing my things because after almost 3 hours of waiting for him i was pretty pissed that he would go there. I said, is this how this is going down!? I said i didn't have time for this mess. He followed me through the halls yelling. SO THIS IS YOUR LAST TIME COMING!? ...SHOULD I PLAN ON NOT SEEING YOU AGAIN? mind you ther was a room full of patients, and this man was now yelling at me down the hall. I said...well with this service maybe this will be the first time. I walked out to the waiting area. He loudly told him nurses I won't be back and talked more trash as i left. He mumbled something about my fill needing to be ready to transfer to a new doctor. I haven't been back and i've considered pressing charges for neglect to properly treat me blood pressure. I ended up going to GW who have been great at making sure my Blood Pressure came down to safe numbers and constantly checking in on me.

He examined me and decided that I had some sort of problem with the nerve endings in my hip (never mind that this condition was extremely rare and was characterized by symptoms that I did not have). He didn't know enough about what he diagnosed me with to tell me about it without looking it up--and then instead of telling me what I should do, he made copies of a medical book for me to take with me. He also has misdiagnosed not one, but two of my co-workers, who have seen him. I have not heard a single positive review of him, and I'm honestly pretty concerned about his capability as a physician.

I think they have commercial about how you won't feel like a number but more like a person here,…read morebut I honestly haven't felt that, but I guess, such is the healthcare industry. I've changed doctors with Medstar 4-5 times in the last 2 years mainly because people leave the practice or more to different offices. I remember when I was younger, an annual physical was much more than just asking you questions and then adjusting your medications, but the doctors don't even touch you other than listening to your breathing. I also don't like that they send you all these emails and text messages to pre-register but then when you get to the office you still have to scan and enter the same data in again. What's the point in pre-registering and wasting time if I'm going to have to do it all over again at the office. So, I just don't anymore.

When I had more questions, she didn't hesitate to answer them. It was the kind of medical care you only see in movies and tv shows. This is all true EXCEPT IT DID NOT HAPPEN AT THIS PRACTICE! I recount this story because it's such a stark contrast to what I experienced here. The medical and admin staff here could not care less about the people who seek their help. They like us the same way vampires like people - we're just funding their yachts and second vacation homes. They don't care if you live or die or if your quality of life is piss poor, so long as you pay that copay and all the subsequent "procedural" fees you'd have to pay. To be clear, there are still good medical providers out there - you just won't find them at MedStar Navy Yard

I especially appreciate how she lets me make some of my own decisions regarding my prescriptions and how to handle bumps in the road regarding my health. I always feel like her and I are a team taking on my health together. Folks in her office are just as kind - from the folks that do bloodwork to the front desk. I wanted a doctor of color because I've had so many white doctors treat me like I am an inconvenience to them and I'm so grateful to have found MetroHealth. My only additional notes are that Hebou does talk about weight loss a lot, which I know isn't for everyone so if that's a line for you maybe y'all won't be the best fit. I also find her to be medicine-inclined, I had another doctor recommend more natural approaches to dealing with the same health concerns I have now. I think medicine was the best route but if you like to avoid medicines all together you may want to find another option for your primary care. Again, overall, highly recommended though!

Your time spent with the doctor is longer than in any other office I've been in. Plus, the doctor is listening to you and not typing things into his computer because there is a medical scrip taking notes of what he says and you say the entire time. He's paying complete attention to you. Bloodwork is done in-house, you get the results the same day or while you wait for no additional charge. My current doctor is Dr. Hodes and he knows me. He knows my wife. He isn't so overwhelmed with patients that I'm otherwise just a number. The messaging service is also fantastic. Once, my wife sustained a liquid burn on her hand and by sending a picture through the app, she was prescribed a cream immediately (on a Sunday) and she was able to get it and use it the same day. Yes, it is concierge medicine, but when you count up all your co-pays that you no longer have to pay, I think this is a fair deal, especially if you really care about your health.

We both see two different doctors, but I went to her initial appointment so I've met both. After I met her doctor I wanted to change mine before my appointment because he was so good. But I'm glad I didn't, because David is amazing as well!! Everyone there is super friendly, very knowledgeable, and really want you to understand everything that's going on. The technology there is mind blowing! I've never been this excited about going back to the doctors office. They are also super responsive. You stay connected with them via an app and can send messages at any time of day. Just last night I sent them my 23andMe results (they give you a free test with registration) at 1:03am and got a response back at 1:20am saying it was received. Crazy!! Like I said, nothing but great things to say about them so far.
