Everyone who works there, from the management/office staff to the maintenance people have been great! The location is perfect as you are only about a mile or so from I-91 and two miles from Rt. 9. It's about 20 minutes from Hartford and 35 from New Haven. But it's a quiet area as it is set far enough off of a main road that you don't get any traffic noise. It's also only about a ten minute drive from Main Street in Middletown which is great for bars, restaurants, movies and some shops. In five years, I think I needed to call maintenance only three times (two times were minor problems), and all three times my issues were fixed immediately. That includes this past Fourth of July when my A/C unit crapped out. On a holiday, from the minute I called to the time it was fixed, took under 45 minutes total. These people are good. I've seen some people say the price is a little high, but it's comparable for the area as I looked at others before I chose Town Place. And keep in mind, included in the rent they have a nice pool which gets sun all day and never gets over-crowded, and a small but nice, clean gym with good equipment. They also have some grilling stations around the property including a couple of very nice ones built into stonework in the pool area. Every unit has a washer/dryer and some have fireplaces as well. They had also just begun putting up new siding on all of the buildings. As for the reviewer that gave this only one star...I have no idea what he's talking about. His complaints are ridiculous. Of course there are rent increases, that happens everywhere. And his comment about the lease? Again, no idea what he's talking about. It couldn't possibly have been more simple - nothing sneaky about it at all. Especially compared to the War & Peace version I had to sign at my new place! Even upon move-out, everything was painless. And I had my security deposit back in less than two weeks! Overall, the property is nice, it's convenient to everything, the grounds are well maintained, the amenities are good, and the office and maintenance staff are great! I recommend Town Place to anyone looking in the area.

Cons: Minimal closet space, no toiletries cabinet in the bathroom and very small counter space in the kitchen. The room has very large windows but has only one small awning window so ventilation while cooking is terrible. The kitchen vent is useless because it blows inside the apartment, so the fire alarm can go often. Cooking smoky meals may be impossible.

First of all there are only two buildings so you're not overwhelmingly surrounded by tons of people, it's a small close not community who all looks out for each other. I made 3 life long friends who I met in the halls of Groton Towers. These neighbors were so kind as we even ended up sharing thanksgiving with one of them who also happened to be a military family who moved here from Ga and didn't know anyone in the area (we are from FL). The doors are all locked so in order for anyone to get in they have to be a resident and have a key. They snow plow everything for free, heating is usually included in rent and the best heating system ever! The sidewalks are always salted and the maintenance staff is super responsive and helpful! When we moved in our walk unit had something small on it broke, but when the maintenance saw it instead of fixing the older unit, they put a brand new remote controlled one in! Karen is a kind and thoughtful landlord, the best of which I've ever had the pleasure of meeting! She always had treats in her office for everyone and was constantly planning activities for the kids for the holidays! My daughter would always bug me every time we came through the front doors to grab snacks and say hi to Karen! We still miss her even after moving a year and a half ago.

As you can see, from my pictures, you can make these appartments look extremely homely.

We found post & main after searching for a few months for a new home for my my wife, I and our 2 kids. From the moment we arrived we were greeted with a warm welcome. The office staff took the time to hear our needs and select an apartment to fit them, we were surprised by the numerous different layouts they had to offer we settled on a "JIB" Layout and are very pleased. On moving day we were welcomed with a custom made welcome gift. We are so happy to be living here the amenities are great from the gym, to the Starbucks coffee and snacks in the designer club house what more could you ask for. We can't wait for the warm months to spend time at the grilling stations and swimming in the resort style pool. The bottom line is nothing else in the area compares to post and main from the location to highways and train for commuting, the proximity to shopping and outlets, located in an amazing town with a great school system and recreational opportunities. But what sets post and main apart from all the rest is the staff as a hospitality professional i am extremely picky and I will say they are world class. For potential renters, here are some of my feedback. Pros. 1. Management: I found all of the staffs are very friendly. I always approach Paul and Sarah for questions on various details. And the office will help me receive all my packages. 2. Hot water: It is definitely one of the hottest water I could find in town. 3. Safety: As there are several bars opened till early morning, there are in general people on the street around midnight, so I am not too worried about the safety issues. 4. Parking: Besides the $80/mo on-site parking behinds the building, there is a parking garage for Yale affiliates right across the street. 5. Heat: The heater was really hot in winter (except for some occasions, the heater in my living room does not work. The bedroom one always works.) 6. Price: I visited about 20 different places to rent before I signed the contract here. This is the best price I could find given the same condition near New Haven. (near means within walking/riding distance.) 7. Location: 5-10 mins walk and you can get to most places in downtown you wish to go. Cons. 1. Room shape: Although 400 square feet is not very small, but the effective part is indeed not very large since there is a large closet place. Besides, the positions of closet door and bedroom door in living room made me very hard to place my furniture. (e.g. sofa, TV, desk, bookshelves) In addition, the kitchen is at a corner and there is no fan. So from time to time, there are some smoke coming out while frying or sauteing. But I like the design of a small isolated bedroom area. 2. Noise: for most time it was good. But since I lived in first floor, the noise of trash truck and weeding machine is very large in the morning, and could affect my sleeping. In addition, the wall is not very voice-isolated. I think this is the constrained best place to stay in downtown New Haven. I would recommend anyone who wish to live in the downtown areas of New Haven consider this place. PS: I saw the 1-star review mentioned the security deposit. I have no problem getting back my deposit except a cleaning charge (for about $100. I can not remember the exact amount).

They used that as an excuse because unfortunately we had a bad relationship with my roommate, who the same company introduced me to rent the apartment with her, then she moved and did not notify me that a new person would arrive to live in the Apartment, one night an strange woman appeared in the apartment which shocked me and I had to call the police, and she explained that the company had given her the keys, and the next day I heard a baby crying in the apartment. The company was very clear in the contract that only two people could live in the apartment. Now I am stranded in this place living with strangers because the company threatens me that if I move and stop paying rent they will report me for eviction and I will lose my security deposit
