She does not wash, condition, relaxing, processing or trim hair. You must come with that done by a licensed professional already, if that's what you desire. I've never left her chair disappointed.

The shop I usually go to was booked, so I saw the reviews here and gave it a try. My twists began to slide within a week of having them installed. When I called to schedule a time to have them fixed, I got the run around about a time to come in and then no response at all. I don't have time to pop in or pop up. This was extremely frustrating to me. To pay what I paid for a service that did not last and then be disregarded. I am highly disappointed.

So I went to the salon hoping she would be available. However, I was informed that she was off that day, but never received a response from Ella via phone. So I asked if any other stylists knew how to do short hair and if an appt was available today or if a walk-in was available now. Stylist Nikki had an opening later that afternoon. So, I left and returned for the scheduled appointment. My hair was not touched until 30 minutes after my appointment which was a negative sign for me because I am not use to waiting 30 minutes with an appt (15 min is understandable, maybe even 20 if it is not the norm and previous experience shows this does not happen often). I sat for a very long time at the wash bowl, maybe an additional 40 to 50 minutes... not because the conditioner was not ready to be washed out, but because she was still working on a client's hair. My hair normally air dries within 5 minutes and 15 to 20 minutes when mousse is used and I have to go under the dryer. However, I was left under the dryer for 1 hr and then was told to stay under the dryer for another 20min... again not because my hair was not dry, but because the stylist was still working on the same client's hair. This is what stylists tell clients when they are behind schedule. They make it seem like you need more time under the dryer or need to let a conditioner sit longer instead of admitting that they overbooked appts. Since my hair was dry, I lifted the dryer (refusing to continue to play the waiting game) and informed the stylist who confirmed it was dry. I tried to be understandable because my appt was made the same day, but the waiting game was ridiculous. The stylist could have said she has an opening, but there would be a wait or she could have said I do not have an opening today. I was extremely disappointed with the time it took from the beginning of my appt until the end. Women who choose to spend an entire day in the salon don't mind dealing with this type of experience, but I have never and will never accept this type of experience from a professional licensed stylist. Two stylists continued to drop combs on the floor and I watched them pick it up and reuse it without washing it off smh The price for a shampoo, curl, and cut was $65. I have short hair. So the cut was just to keep the hair off of my ears and neck to keep the short look that I like... the curls lasted for a few hours smh So my visit was a waste of time and money. Also, the stylists never engaged in any conversation with me which is not something that I'm use to. All she wanted to know is will I be booking another appt, which I declined to do so...

I literally have mini photo shoots in the bathroom every time i visit because even the bathrooms are chic . I am greeted with a smile every time that I visit and it feels like a home away from home. My stylist is Nikkie she is the ABSOLUTE BEST She has been treating my hair for the years and this past October I entrusted her to style my entire bridal party. When I expressed my concerns I was told it was hard to do the twist on my texture (4C hair). My issue is why not tell me immediately. I would have picked something else. The lack of communication was so unnecessary. I am a very understanding customer and would have been fine with getting something else. However I have seen twist on 4C hair before. The lady didn't know what she was doing. I know for sure they were talking about me in French, which made me feel uncomfortable. I will not be going back. I don't recommend this place.

I have had the absolute worst experience with NappStar NYC at the Waldorf, MD location. I went in for a wash and retwist and sat over three hours after being washed to get styled. Once in the chair, the stylist did not do my hair as I asked and while there were some parameters around why she couldn't twist it the way I wanted, my style pictured did not match what I wanted.... I mean ... it was a bun ... how hard is it to do a bun?! I couldn't sit under the dryer because I had already been there 5 hours and needed to go to work. I requested to speak to the manager who, instead of speaking to me, directly told her stylist "This is just where we are right now", and then further instructed her to stop doing my hair to wash another clients hair who had just arrived 10 minutes prior. Said stylist did not stop my hair because she herself felt as if that was not the right thing to do. Despite being there 5 hours, being completely ignored by the manager, even at check out, I STILL tipped 20%. This doesn't end here... I attempted to reach out to customer service, in which they OFFERED TO REDO MY HAIR. When I requested a different day, I was given the run around. There is no direct phone number, instead they have a customer service person that takes all of their calls. All this week I have been promised a call back in which never happened. I instead had to repeatedly call back every day this week to get answers, which ended up mostly being put on hold. Here is what's wild about this whole story: Napstarr's solution went from offering to redo my hair, to the manager questioning what was wrong with my style , to yesterday, telling the costumer service representative that now they can no longer redo my hair. The reason being was because the stylist that did it is not available and on top of that is not offering any refunds. How you go from offering a redo of my style to nothing at all, is absolutely terrible business. I've requested several times to speak to the manager directly, talk to a supervisor, even atleast an email address in which I'm being told that there isn't any of these options available smh. As a customer, I am left with nothing but an incorrect hairstyle, time wasted, and no option to get a refund or ANYTHING. I mean atleast offer a discount , a free product, or at the least AN APOLOGY?! As much as I have spent monetarily and verbalized praises about this business to others, this is really disheartening. Especially when it's to support a black owned business. I am not letting this go easily. After my trial of makeup which I paid 65$ for it was like pulling teeth to get a contract for the date that I needed to get makeup done. So come to find out that they were no longer available for that date (although you knew the date before I got my trial done and paid for it). Weeks went on finally found another makeup artist in the company that I was content with and still no contract presented or no communication as to what going on. ( I would definitely recommend you get your contract before you leave this place so that your date and stylist/artist will be locked end!!!
