I came in and explained my concerns (being treated like every other natural) and Nicole explained her process and asked questions before beginning. I truly appreciate that. I didn't go into a salon and leave with a sore scalp. I have very tight coils and my hair has been combed with small tooth combs that yank my fine coils. It is also wrung out which causes serious tangles. This is why I opt not to wear my hair in natural styles. Based on her ratings, I decided to give this shop a try. Nicole is gentle while effective. How will you protect my edges? 2. How will you react when I tell you that they are too tight? 3. Do I have to buy my own hair? 4. Do you offer wash services? First, the way she answered the phone was so bright and cheerful. She answered all of my questions and luckily her afternoon appt canceled so I was in same day at 1 for senegalese twists. As I was walking through the door, her client before me was leaving. Her cheerful dispositipn on the phone is even better in person. Her spirit is just wonderful. She gave me a wash, blow dry (not on high heat!), trim, and after all of that a scalp massage. When I tell you I could have fallen asleep.... Her conversation was on point. Just enough convo but not too much. I let her work on my head and I watched tv. Let me touch on her skills. AMAZING!!! I said before that I like my edges. She expressed that she doesnt braid tight becaise she knows how it feels. All braiding stylists say that but Purity is the truth. She braids tight enough that they are secure but not so tight that there is tension everywhere, your head is inflamed, you need to pop all of the pills when you get home, and youre sleeping on your forehead for 2 weeks until they loosen. There was none of that. If one happened to cross that threshold she immediately took steps to make it better. Additionally, she checked in periodically to make sure I was all right. My braids are gorgeous! I love them so much! They are a little long for me but that's my fault, I didnt express the length I wanted. I was so excited and caught up in the scalp massage and conversation that I forgot to mention. This is definitely not her fault and I dont hold it against her. I need to give my hair a break from all of the manipulation so I am definitely going to visit Purity again and tell everyone I know. PS...she provided that hair.

Because of those reviews, I am always extremely cautious--I normally bring my own products and explicitly request that nothing else be used on my hair. This time, I made the mistake of forgetting my products and had to rely on theirs. Immediately after the so-called "deep conditioner" was applied, my scalp began burning. I asked what was used and was told it was only deep conditioner and that no chemicals were involved. That explanation makes absolutely no sense. I have not had a perm in nearly 15 years, yet the burning sensation was identical to a perm burn. I washed my hair today, and if there was any doubt before, it is now gone. Whatever was used altered my hair's natural texture. My hair is naturally curly--after washing it, my curls are gone and my hair is now noticeably straight. In Photo #2, the left side is from today's wash. The right side is from my last at-home wash. The difference is undeniable. There are no curls on the left. Photo #3 is my usual hair texture. I can't help but question whether this was done to make my hair more "manageable," especially since my longtime stylist, Veronica--who was meticulous and respectful of natural hair--suddenly left the salon. The current level of care and consideration is clearly not the same. I've seen previous responses from Julia disputing similar claims. I am not interested in a response. Nothing anyone says will reverse the damage that has been done to my hair. I am beyond frustrated and deeply disappointed. I will never return, and I plan to report this to the BBB and pursue any other recourse available. While nothing will restore my hair to its natural state, I hope this review prevents someone else from making the same mistake I did and continuing to support this business.

When I called to schedule a time to have them fixed, I got the run around about a time to come in and then no response at all. I don't have time to pop in or pop up. My experience was less than pleasing. I am not in the cosmetology business and maybe ignorant but what is it about salons booking a ton of heads when only two people are working? (One full stylist and one washer/blow dryer that day). My appointment was at 11. I wasn't in a seat until noon. I didn't leave until 5. I know that I had no idea what color I wanted. And even though Ora did try to help, I felt very much like an inconvenience to her. I was a new customer, who explained that I had only had permanent color done once. And she still seemed a little peeved at me not knowing what I wanted. She's the expert. Shouldn't she be able to help? And happily? When I complained that my head was tingling (reminiscent of the prelude to burning when I got my hair relaxed years and years ago) she made it seem like that was normal and that I needed to try to stay under longer to get the best color/effect. So I did. It took forever while she tended to the many other customers. But it very much felt like the dryer was her way of putting me and my services on the bench for a bit so she could do others. I will say that without a doubt my hair looked great once completely done. The color was amazing, the press was great. I didn't love the style but I figured I would just mess with it when I got home. I asked about waves like hers but she said it would be more money. To. Do. Some. Waves. With the same flatiron. So I just let it go. I paid 200 or so dollars which I know might not be a lot but for someone who never goes to salons and has been tending to her own natural/no-heat hair for years, it felt like so much for poor service. That was fine. It was what happened after that is the reason I am writing this review. I waited a few months to decide if I wanted to write this. But after multiple washes, pure aloe vera, masks, and deep conditioning treatments, I know my hair is ruined. More than five years of growing out and not putting heat on my hair -- all in the garbage. My curls are ruined. All I have to do is brush my hair and my natural, afro hair stays straight. Never, not since I used to relax my hair and started transitioning and saw my real texture, has my hair looked like this. I have cried. I have spent lots of money. And now to find some peace, I am writing this review. I genuinely DO NOT remember either Ora or her niece putting any type of heat protectant on my hair. I think at one point I even asked because I was worried. I warned her a billion times that my hair was NO HEAT NATURAL as of five years. No heat (save once). Or permanent die. Or relaxer. No precautions taken by Ora. And I know it's not just my hair because my own sister had tried to straighten my hair just once over that period of time and my curls came right back. The only thing I liked about myself -- thick hair on my head that I've learned to grow and protect -- is now gone. And I spent 200 dollars to ruin it. I will never be going back here. And unless you are not having service done on your real, natural hair (wig and weave), I would caution other newbie hair salon goers from going here too. Aside from the rudeness, tardiness, pricey-ness, etc, the most important thing is that my hair is ruined.
