The atmosphere of this studio is very welcoming. Nice relax music to set the mood. Beautiful artwork decor on the wall. I enjoyed my services and felt quite welcome. November has been a tough month for me. So, this was a great way to relax and get in some Self Love & Care. I purchased the Womban Of Wisdom Yoni steam. It was refreshing. The ambience is comfy and relaxing. I was offer a glass of wine or water. I opted out the wine for a bottle of water. I was also giving a bell to ring if I need anything. Oops I almost forgot you are giving a cute pinkish maxi dress to wear while getting your Yoni steam. I will be scheduling another appointment soon. So be on the look out for another review. Tamika ended my hair crisis. After my stylist quit, I looked to yelp to find the best. She takes the time to listen to my hair concerns and takes them to heart. I feel comfortable in her intimate setting salon and am able to open up about my worries, which is usually hard for me. Now that I mourned the loss of my stylist of 6 yrs, I hope to continue to see tamika for years to come. -my services are sewins, wash, and iron work. -she provides bundles of hair and I am pleased with the quality of the hair. read more

So glad I finally found a black owned yoni studio up north. Tamika and her staff are wonderful. The place is a hidden gem I almost passed it. The place is very warm and inviting and follows Covid rules.There was some confusion about the appointment due to a system error but I was accomodated. This review is on her Tamika's professionalism, not her service. I recently moved to Chicago and did a thorough search for a hair stylist. Tamika has wonderful reviews so I schedule an appt. Still being very new to the area, I depend heavily on my GPS. My GPS showed an odd location so I decided to call the number that was listed on my appt confirmation email to gain better directions. I called this number the day before and FIVE TIMES the day off my appointment. Her location was very difficult to find. When I finally located her salon, I was about 25 minutes late. Now, I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND being on time for appt and was prepared to reschedule. However, what happened next left an EXTREMELY bad impression of Tamika. I walk into her salon, clearly distraught because I was searching for her location for over 20 minutes. She says "What is your name? Oh, you are really late. Have a seat outside and I will come and talk to you". Now, you might not read this how it was shared, but I believe she confused me with her child; which I am not. I walked out and decided to leave because her attitude indicated she would not even be interested in hearing what happened. When I returned to my apartment, I receive a call from her secretary saying "Hi this is Ebony from GlamRock Squad and I am returning a call"... umm ma'am you are a day late and a dollar short. This entire experience caused me to write my very first YELP review. Oh, and the full service amount of $70 is pending on my account - which will be disputed once the transaction goes through (thanks Chase). Honestly, I could kick myself for not going to see Tamika sooner. I have been looking for months for a place to go and kept reading reviews and KNEW I should go, but only when I had completely fallen into hair hell thanks to another salon I tried did I go to see her. Best Decision Ever. It's been years since I actually left a salon happy with how my hair looked. I have been natural for almost 4 years, but I chose the wig and weave route. My growth was super uneven so I decided to just go with an asymmetrical haircut after my shampoo and blowout. I was expecting the worst because I've never had my hair styled since I went natural (since I always just got it braided up and extensions sewn in). I left silky smooth and mesmerized. It was a hair miracle. I don't think she realizes how impressed/happy I was. Next time I need anything done to my hair at all, I'll be making an appointment with Tamika. read more

I LOVE MY HAIR!!!! Tamika was my stylist before at Mario Tricoci and when she left, I felt lost. But then I found her again at GlamRock Squad and I felt home again. This time I got a sew-in to give my natural hair a rest. Nobody can tell that I have a sew-in and my hair even fooled my own mother! I am normally not a sew-in person but I definitely will get again. Also I bought the Yelp deal and it definitely helped because if you know a good sew-in, it's not cheap. Also I bought the hair from Tamika and the quality is amazing while still at a great price. I am always shocked when I get compliments on my hair, even when I come from the gym. Know that I know where Tamika is, I will continue to go to her and I definitely will get a sew-in again! *Sorry this review is all over the place but as I reflect on my hair thus far, I just keep getting excited all over again!!! read more

I had a hair emergency. I had to go to a formal work event and my regular stylist was unavailable. I was able to get a next-day/Saturday afternoon appointment with GlamRock Squad. (The quick appointment bumps it up to 2 stars). I was not pleased with the care given to my hair. My hair was washed....kinda. Blow-dried roughly and flat ironed to the point of burning. I was not pleased with the style, either. The location was hard to find; it was a single chair inside of a small room in a building filled with other stylists. Interesting concept but it was a bit uncomfortable feeling. Parking was also hard - I ended up paying 24 bucks to park my car in a nearby lot. I would not return to this stylist. Edit: In response to the owners comment, while I appreciate the offer, I would not return, as my hair is still experiencing signs of heat damage from my previous visit. My hair was done at GlamRock Squad by Tamika Raye before she moved to her new location. read more

I definitely do not regret going to Glam Rock Squad. Tamika did a great job! As someone fairly new to the city and looking for a stylist, she was awesome. She was so nice and happily scheduled me an appointment very last minute. During my first visit, I only got a shampoo and style but it turned out great. She also gave me a trim. My mom is a hairstylist so I'm very critical of others, but Tamika was very good. After leaving her my hair looked healthy and I wasn't disappointed at all. I'm currently transitioning from relaxed to natural and she gave her honest opinion of what will help. Lastly, it's just Tamika in the salon so you don't have to deal with a large crowd which is great. I definitely felt like she was focused on what was best for my hair. My roommate went the following week and loved her hair as well. I encourage every to give Tamika a visit!! read more

I met Tamika about 4 years ago while she was a stylist at Mario Tricoci, and my hair has been significantly healthier since she has been in my life! Tamika is great with cuts, color, relaxers, sew ins, you name it. She not only has a large, diverse client base but I love the swanky feel of her new salon in the Gold Coast, right across from Gucci and diagonal from Louis Vuitton. Before becoming a GlamDoll, I had always been one of those "bathroom stylists", doing my own relaxers, permanent color, and sew ins. (Especially during the college years, yikes!) Of course, if this sounds like you, you probably have experienced a little bit of trial and error, error being botched color, breakage, dryness, etc. Thankfully Tamika put the brakes on me and taught me how to care for my natural hair and provided me with some great quality products which has made all the difference when coming from using cheap beauty-supply products. Since meeting Tamika, not only has she been patient with me but she is extremely accommodating which I appreciate!! Tamika always has me in-and-out and is super professional and efficient. Let me say that again. In and out! Unfortunately in a lot of urban salons, you can expect (with the double booking and wait) that a wash and blow dry may be a 3-4 hour process. She never double books her clients. Tamika also gave me the best sew-in I've ever had. She uses a great technique that allows the hair to last for months. She also used a very high quality of Brazilian hair that I, in fact, dyed and reused when she did my second installment. Go see Tamika if you are looking for a great, diverse, and professional stylist to stick with. You will not be disappointed! read more

I was looking for a new hairstylist. I have to say Tamika could be the one. I did the consultation and wash, blow dry and flat iron. She really listened to what I was looking for and what goals I had for my hair. She made lots of suggestions and worked with me on something's that I wasn't fully comfortable yet. I needed a cut but I wasn't ready for it, especially since it was my first time with a new hair stylist so Tamika did a trim to work me up to where I need to be. I was needing my hair cut at the last minute and saw Glamrock Squad in the neighborhood, they are very new here, i think since July. I usually go to another place to get my hair cut, i will not mention the name. It's always tough for me to have someone new cut my hair. But i was in a perdicament and decided to go in and give them a try. I met Tamika and decided to have her cut my hair I am so impressed by how good of a job she did.
