When I first arrived and checked in I was a little scared. The girl and the front desk was wearing a tank top and a baseball cap and her fast food dinner was laying on the desk. VERY unprofessional. I was thinking that I chose the wrong hotel to stay at. But fortunately when I got to the room I was very pleased. It was large, clean and the air conditioner and coffee pot both worked...yay! I threw off my shoes and walked around and there was debris sticking to my feet, so the floors could have been cleaner but no big deal. Beds were VERY comfortable and check out was a breeze. Advice to management: Front desk staff should always be presentable, and their food should NEVER been seen by guests. read more

Stayed at the Blvd during weekday get away to Universal Studio. Check in staff were friendly and welcoming. Price comparative to area. Location and ammenties (aside from the $28 daily parking fee which appears to be a common practice so I should just get over it) were acceptable for my planned activities. Room was clean. Thought they shorted us a couple of towels but found them pushed towards back of bottom storage after I called for more. Hotel staff super cool and quickly addressed my [perceived] need. Refrigerator did not get cold but ice machine was 2 doors down. Did not hear it at night. Location was great for Universal Studio and within walking distance although my folks and I opted to Uber. We still got in our 10k Steps....yaaaassss!! Didn't make it to the pool, but according to someone in our party it did not appear inviting. Weird location towards back of underground parking structure. It appeared perfect for a movie ~ your choice of genre. Oh yeah. I left my fav jacket in the room closet. When I called back a day later I was given simple instructions on how to get it returned. Within a few days we were reunited with all of my belongings in the pockets!! I'd return. read more

I recent stayed at a hotel I booked through Skiplagged at The BLVD Hotel and Spa. I have spend almost $400 for two night of staying here. Last night/early morning, I lost my earring and was looking behind the bed and I found a USED NEEDLE. (See pics attached.) When I called the Front Desk, they said they could "try"' to move me or I could wait for the manager to arrive at 8:30am. It took til 1pm for the "manager" to arrive and he basically told me that he "didn't put it there so it wasn't his fault." He also said he wasn't a mom and pop place, he wasn't going anywhere. He said he refused to reimburse me or even attempt to compensate me because "for all he knew I put it there." So, on top of everything, he ACCUSED ME. If ME, MY CHILD(who DID found it!), OR MY SERVICE ANIMAL had found that and gotten hurt or died, I would have been more than irate. He refused to check the room and told me he would have to get it "lab tested" before he would even talk to me. This is DISGUSTING customer service behavior and the hotel cleanliness is GROSS. This is a remodeled apartment, it's 1130pm and there are drunk 20-somethings loitering and the entrance adjacent to the parking lot. No eye contact - the front desk staff made no eye contact the whole entire time. I could have been wearing a mask or a celebrity - they had didn't care about being welcoming. Noise issues, it's 1245am and the next room is way too loud for a normal conversation. Uncomfortable Bed! - the king bed was so soft that I sunk in so low that my head was lower than the rest of my body, I not even 200 lbs. Terrible Room setup - AC unit is directly next to the bed and gave me a sore throat from it being on all night. Moving the bed to the other side of the room would work better, the desk is too close to the bed anyways. - Bathroom - anyone under 5'6" can't see there face in the mirror, mirror is too high and light in the whole room is very low. Not worth the money. You are paying for the website design and the front lobby area to 'front' the outdated rooms with gross cream light fixtures. read more

Rooms are at spacious and comfy however, when I first turned on the shower a foul sewage smell came from the drain, someone stole our "do not disturb sign" from off of our door and when we asked for a new one they would not replace it. I don't know why they bother calling it a cardio fitness room. When we went there, there are only three cardio machines and only one of them worked. No weights whatsoever. They do not serve breakfast, but what they do serve you is a parking bill for $31. A day. The valet parking means park your own car. And the elevator smells like old diapers. The room is nice but the shower is complicated. The toilet clogged and the wait time for maintenance was forever. Parking is expensive and be prepared to park tandem. No cafe on site or continental breakfast. There are massage services on site, which was nice. If you are a smoker, be prepared to search the property for the hidden smoking section. The hotel is located directly on Lankershim BLVD. The walls are thin so you can hear everything going on around you. Quick easy check in, the tandem parking was a surprise but the cost of parking was not. Most hotels charge for over night parking now a days do not surprised. It's hard to leave a rating because the customer service is awesome, but the hotel rooms are in pretty bad shape. The beds, however, are comfortable. Don't book if you plan to walk anywhere, the street is in a very rough neighborhood. Best to Uber in and out anyhow, since parking is $33 per day and getting in and out is tricky due to stacked parking. Not the most convenient to Universal park. I got a massage and I highly recommend their masseuse, she was awesome and the price was reasonable. I noticed a lot of strong pot smoke smell throughout our stay, and no one was asked to leave, so if you are sensitive I'd say stay away. read more

My friend and her fiancé had booked a room here for their wedding this past weekend (10/28/17). I stayed with the bride the night before the wedding and then the groom of course spent the remaining nights of their stay. Everyone was blown away by the size of the room given, it was much larger than they had expected for what they were spending on the reservation, basically like an apartment complete with a VERY large private balcony/deck and full kitchen. The wedding morning and afternoon were spent in the room, and there was plenty of room to accommodate the hair and makeup artists and all their gear, five bridesmaids, mother of the bride, two photographers, and the bride herself. The hotel staff was also very warm and accommodating. The bride had called down to the front desk to see if they had a wine bottle opener available (one of the few items missing in the kitchen), and not only did they send someone up with an opener but they also brought two glasses and bottle of wine! That's what I call service! They were also quick to have maintenance bring up a requested fan when it started getting a bit warm. The room was clean at first check in, and we were so impressed with all the amenities, including the extras in the bathroom (shaving kit, makeup remover wipes, feminine products, sewing kit, q-tips). The bed and pillows were soft and comfortable, we had no trouble falling asleep. The room was also free from noise from other guests and the outside neighborhood, this may be because this room was situated in the back of the hotel next to the spa. My only complaint is that the only light in the bathroom is the fluorescent ring light around the mirror, it makes the room strangely bright and dark all at the same time. It'd be nice if there was overhead lighting as an option, but it's not like I expect them to rewire the lighting so it's forgivable. All in all I was very impressed with my brief stay at this hotel, and I know the bride and groom were very happy as well. The BLVD hotel, very true to many Hollywood stories, packages itself is a sleek and trendy image but ultimately produces little other than that. The lobby screams of an upscale, hipster hostile which leads one to believe that the rooms will be well worth the price (and additional charges you didn't know about at booking. As I walk down the hall to my room my eyes are drawn to a large white stucco patch in the wall, as if they were fixing a hole but never got around to paining it. The colors of the hotel are a bland grey and pumpkin orange which again, feels more like a cheap hostel. The TV is on when I walk in the room which was odd and led me to believe I entered the wrong room. The bathroom mirror and walls are dirty, one of the lights is hanging out of the ceiling while two others don't work at all, and the mini fridge is louder than the A/C unit that looks as if it was bought second hand from a larger hotel chain. The mattress is decent enough but the pillows feel lumpy as if they were washed improperly. This whole experience ended up costing me $275 on a Sunday night, a night in which I've stayed at far nicer, better kept hotels for a fraction of the price. This hotel is the hotel equivalent of $20 avocado toast made on thin bread with minimal effort put into it but keeping the hipster name and price. The upside is it's close to universal studios, but if you're going to travel to universal and stay in a hotel, I'd recommend upgrading your experience and driving a little further. read more

Great location, great rooms, but the customer service is not. When we checked in the front desk had charged us for two nights and then added a separate charge for three nights to my account. This caused my account to go into overdraft, which incurred fees to my account. I tried every day to get with the general manager to discuss this problem, but was ignored and never received a call back. I have been in touch with the hotel and the general manager still is not making any attempt to contact me. Every time I ask to speak to him, the response I got was he doesn't work on the holidays. Today (11/29/16), I attempted to contact him and now I'm getting hung-up on. Worse customer service from a hotel. I couldn't recommend this hotel at all. If your need is to just sleep and be close to Universal Studios - this is your place. However, it is overpriced for what you get. The rooms are in need of updating. The bar is very loud and rambunctious on a Friday evening. The shower is really funky to operate and even has directions above the handles asking for you to dial 0 if you can't figure it out. If you want breakfast in the lobby, the prices are extremely high for not much to quench those hunger pains. The staff was helpful. The bed was comfy. It's on a very busy street/highway, but we didn't hear traffic when the windows were closed. There were homeless across the street from our room. Not a cool thing to look at out the window. I really loved the pictures I saw on google of this location but it seemed a little worn down in person. The customer seems was great just the hotel furniture was getting kinda old and had chips on the paint of them. It seemed as if they were trying to make it seem more modern but used really old furniture. The shower door was strange because it was glass on one side and nothing on the other side. If you plan to stay ask them to not have you near the Main Street because the trash guy came by and was so obnoxiously loud. Also the control for the tv didn't work. So we had to stand up and turn off and on the buttons. Definitely needs attention to the rooms and the parking is $28 per night which is kinda pricey and the night was $199 I think the hotel should not have been more than 145 max with all the conditions it had. This hotel is definitely not worth the stay. We arrived into a very small double parked parking garage. The Garage is made so when you park you're either getting blocked in or blocking someone else in. Then your expected to give your keys to the person at the front desk which is not even valet and trust them to move your car if someone needs to get out, because once again we're blocked in. Our room was missing the tv remote and our phone didn't work. There's also a very gross smell that comes out of the water in the bathroom sink. We noticed every time we left and returned back to the room it smelled really bad, a similar smell that the water in the bathroom had. We had to keep our window and ac running to try and flush the smell out. One of the perks of this hotel is that it is very close to universal studios and the city walk. Thought this was going to be a good place to stay with the family since it's close to Universal Studios and all but when you try and make a call down stairs they don't answer. Then the all night party down the hallway would have been nice if I was only invited.. "NOT COOL" oh then the neighbors in the hall or next door or where ever (cause the walls are paper thin) would not shut up at 3am(maybe they came from the party). Let me start out by saying I work in the hotel industry so I'm extremely picky where I lay my head at night. I just completed a stay here not to long ago. From the photos online it looked pretty chic. When we arrived I thought it was ok, but not impressed. Our room looked out to concrete "patio" not what I would imagine looking at for what we paid in a boutique style hotel. Cons: -Hole in the wall in our room which to me is completely unexceptable! -Low water pressure in the bathroom...we were given the reason it is because the area has low water pressure...hmmm ok can't argue since we don't live in the area but I've been in the area several times and never had a water pressure issue.... -Toilet wouldn't flush, but we went down to the front desk and they immediately had someone up there to fix it .I guess we could include that in the pro section too. -The bathroom looked likecertain parts were remodeled but the sink area seem to be overlooked plus the sink was up high....kind of awkward. Part of the wallpaper was pealing off already too. -Thin walls and floors...you could hear people walk up above your room, so I suggest requesting the top floor to stay. -No restaurant inside hotel. What they did have was prepackaged muffin's and Sara Lee bagels that you get at the grocery store...not my idea of a breakfast because I do not like prepackaged items but I guess it works if you are on the run. Pro's: -Awesome complementary beer and wine hour from 5-6pm and actually good quality beer and wine! You don't seem to find that much in LA! -Location was convenient -Bed was super comfy -Employees were friendly -Reasonable price parking for the area Overall it was an ok hotel, not great but not bad. If I could sum up our whole experience it would be that MANAGEMENT IS NOT WILLING TO RETURN A CALL. My one year old had an appointment at a Children's hospital nearby and since the appointment was in the morning and we live 70 miles away we chose to stay the night to avoid traffic and stress the morning of his appointment. This room failed to do the ONLY thing we asked of it - ALLOW US TO SLEEP. Around 230AM our fire alarm starts doing the dreaded shrill indicating that the batteries are dying. We are immediately woken by the sound - completely impossible to sleep through or ignore. We had to call the front desk to have someone come with a ladder and replace the batteries (for what it's worth, he was very apologetic). It took another hour before I was able to get my 1 year old BACK to sleep. The whole purpose of staying at the hotel was to allow us to be rested the morning of his appointment. Big FAIL. The room was over $200 for the night and the only compensation we were offered was complimentary parking and breakfast (which we had no time for because our morning was completely a wreck with our 2 small children and broken sleep schedule and a hard appointment time at the hospital). When we asked to speak to the Manager the morning after we were informed that he was not in and ASSURED that he would call us later that afternoon. Of course he never called so I the following day I called again. I was AGAIN ASSURED that the message would be passed along and now it's been well over a week and I have not received a call. I also want to add that the hotel pictures and room descriptions are not necessarily accurate. This is a copy and paste from our confirmation letter: "This Smoke Free King Suite includes 1 Complimentary BLVD Happy Hour Drink per person over 21. Separate living area with sofa 42" Flat Screen TV Work Desk WiFi (surcharge) Plush leather seating Luxurious bath amenities including Rain Shower Head, Marble counters with raised sinks. Approx 450 Sq Ft Microwave and Refrigerator, Hairdryer, Iron/Iron Board Upon request and Availability - balconies or private patios." We did not have a sofa in our room (all the photos of this suite on the site show a different much nicer version of the room than we had). I was told by the woman I spoke to when I called back that not every King Suite room has the sofa despite their confirmation letter stating that our room would have that. It's a smaller detail and one I'd have overlooked if the management hadn't been so terrible, but clearly this hotel has no problem bending the truth to make their rooms appear nicer than they really are. This hotel is clearly comfortable ignoring their guests complaints and banking on their proximity to Universal to keep the customer base coming. I feel strongly that while this was clearly a one-off type issue, some level of reimbursement for the ROOM should have been warranted. When the room does not allow for a full night's sleep by the guest, the management should have done more than offer free parking. And they should ALWAYS return a phone call at the very least. I wish I would have stayed at the Hilton or Sheraton for a bit more, or simply stayed at the Holiday in at the airport. 1st the spa is a mirage, there is no spa. I booked from Expedia which was far kinder in its description than I will be. You can call to schedule a massage in room but I suspect no times are available. The pool is a joke- first it's in the garage, a concrete square filled with water. They'd do better to dress it up with plants, low lighting, and filled with mineral bath, raise the temp and make it a mineral bath soak place. No one had used it in forever. Look at the picture I posted now imagine fluorescent lights without covers and cinderblock walls painted grey. Dirty floor. Towels in a hamper for god knows how long. It's small too. The room was decorated nice but walls are paper thin and day one we were woken at 5 am when guy upstairs packed and left. Day two our neighbors were really loud. There is a "cafe" but it's an expresso machine and food similar to 7-eleven. I kid you not; cup o noodles and pop tarts are available. There is a lounge in the lobby and it's well stocked. Happy hour with 1 free drink a night. The lobby is decorated nicely. Each day there is cold country time lemonade with fresh fruit in it located by the elevator. Floor 2 has a funky smell and is closed up so no fresh air. Our room was decorated with nice colors and modern but run down. For example in the bathroom the mirror was so old the whole bottom was corroded and rusting between the glass and the wall. The laminate in the sitting area was warped and I kept catching the toe of my shoe where it met the carpet. Nice mini fridge. Each room has a tablet to use but ours wouldn't even power on. The dresser was chipping away on the top. I excepted more for a couple hundred a night. If the dropped the price to 99 a night it would be a good value. They have signature drinks that are one of a kind. Close Proximity- If you've ever been in LA, traffic is a B**tch, so being so close to freeway and all major tourist attractions is a plus. Music - they have a DJ playing live great music in the lounge bar Room- Super clean, modern look, with goose-down comforters, flat screen TV's Cons: No restaurant in hotel, but they are located to many food places around the area, so it really not that bad. This is by far the worst hotel I've stayed in in L.A. They seem to be short-staffed and the staff they do have doesn't seem to be experienced in the hospitality area. The first time I stepped off of the elevator to go to my room, there was an extreme stench in the hallway - it smelled like body odors. Terrible. The room itself has the smell of old toilet water and the towels are off-white with small stains in them. I attempted to get an early cocktail the second morning of my stay (early like, noon)... I sat at the bar while two staff members stood nearby conversing with each other, completely ignoring me. 20 min later, I turn to them and ask if the bar is open and they inform me it doesn't open until 4pm. So... You see me sitting at the bar, clearly and don't acknowledge me... But you've glanced my way at least 5x and didn't think to say something until I asked? Wtf. Not to mention, spending a Friday night sick there was a nightmare. My neighbor was clearly intoxicated and belligerent and continuously awoke me throughout the night. The fact that I took NyQuil and still heard him is incredible. I managed not to complain all night then as the noise persisted through sunrise, I called the front desk... I politely made them aware of the disturbance and 30min later... The noise has continued, uninterrupted. I physically went down to the front desk around 7am to complain only to stand there waiting for 10min because no one was there. When the lady finally came back, I made her aware of the disturbance and the fact that I had called to complain... And she laughed it all off, telling me "that guest is supposed to check out today anyway". What? Needless to say I'm pissed and wouldn't recommend this hotel to a homeless person.
