The Garland is a really nice hotel. It is kept up very well. It looks brand new despite being here at least a couple decades. They offer a courtesy shuttle to Universal Studios daily. I enjoyed the courtesy of the front desk staff. There is a very nice store right near the front desk. The lady was actually very helpful with an issue we had with the double decker bus we booked. She saved us and some guests from Australia some annoyance. The room was modern and we had a sort of garden/patio view. We were able to check in a few hours early but that is based on availability of course. I highly recommend staying here if you want to be in the West Hollywood area. It is a very charming hotel that was owned by Beverly Garland and now owned by her son.

Stayed here for three nights in March 2026. The hotel has a great vibe and they do a great job of keeping it clean and beautiful. Check in is fast. They throw a speech at you and send you on your way. I have broken down my thoughts about each area of the experience. Pool area: kids loved the movies by the pool with the pool noodle. They do a great job here with two spas (adult and children) lots of seating and towels. Trolley: really cute and a great way to visit universal studios. Caution it leaves both locations before the advertised times. Communication is terrible here by the staff. We saw one group call an uber because they were afraid of getting to the park late. Gym: covers all the basics, water station, good amount of weights and machines. The Lobby Bar: not worth your money. We ordered a salad, tacos with a side salad, some drinks, nachos and cookies. The cookies are cold and taste like chips ahoy (8 for $10). The salads are really small and are dry. The nachos were okay, just didn't taste like anything. It was a convenient dinner option but wouldn't do return. Parking: it's LA area they charge you to breathe the air, overpriced like everything else. The spots are small and as a result our car got hit with visible marks. Rooms: nice, nothing special or different overall but the air kept the room cool, the towels were plentiful, the beds were comfortable. That being said I would stay here again. The location and price worked for our family in addition to the fun family environment where our kids felt welcomed.

Ehhhhhhh pretty mid experience. Kind of a retro vibe which is cute. Room was clean and bed decently comfy. My real complaint is the noise from the highway. It was SO LOUD in the room as my balcony door faced it. Also, there is NO coffee shop on site. You can order to go from the restaurant. I had a burger for dinner room service which was small and came with weirdly over seasoned fries. In the morning I was told I could get a cheap tea bag to go from the restaurant. Thanks I'm good on paying for that. I wouldn't stay here again personally but the staff was very friendly.

My daughter and her family stayed at The Garland last summer and raved about its chill vibe and family-friendly atmosphere. Last month, I finally joined them for a trip to Los Angeles, with Universal Studios being the main focus for the kids. I booked two adjoining rooms for our family, and upon arrival, I knew I made the right decision. We were warmly greeted by Ami, whose exceptionally friendly demeanor was noticed by all of us.The decor is a perfect combination of retro, tropical, and chill. Our rooms, although basic, were spotlessly clean with very comfortable beds. The only hiccup during our three-day stay was the elevators; it seemed like one or both were out of service for repairs. This resulted in two of us in our 70s having to climb six flights of stairs on two occasions. That said, I know the staff did their absolute best to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. The pool at The Garland is a massive highlight. The grandkids practically lived in it whenever we weren't out on an adventure. Pool noodles are provided for the guests, and during the nightly poolside family movie, the kids watched the films while floating on them. The entire pool area offers an array of comfortable seating--from lounge chairs and booths to bar stools and outdoor beds. I think we sat in every single one of them throughout our stay! Having a poolside bar was incredibly convenient, especially when we wanted drinks and appetizers delivered right to our spot. There are two restaurants on the property, one casual and one slightly more upscale. The prices were very reasonable for the area, and we found the breakfast quite yummy. One night, kicking off Pride Month, the Tangerine Lounge hosted a drag queen film screening with fun festivities. I'm so happy I joined in! Brooke, the marketing manager, enthusiastically invited me into the lounge, making it a memorable evening. The hotel also features a great gift store where I bought three souvenirs for my grandchildren. The woman who runs it has worked there for 30 years and says she's loved every minute of it, which speaks volumes about the staff. Another huge bonus is the hourly shuttle to Universal Studios The Garland Trolley Schedule, and the driver was an absolute blast.Should I visit Los Angeles again, I would absolutely stay here. Highly recommended!

I had the pleasure of staying at The Garland. The front desk staff are very warm and welcoming. We were able to check in several hours before their actual check in time. This is based on availability. The room was modern and comfortable. But let's take a step back. This hotel opened in 1972 by Beverly Garland, the actress. Sadly, she passed away and now her son is in charge. The hotel is well kept and maintained so nicely. The pool and hot tubs seemed very clean. It was too cold for me to go in with my Florida blood, although the pool was heated. Many people were enjoying themselves in both the hot tubs and pools. They also have movies under the stars on Saturday nights. The Garland gives a free shuttle ride to Universal Studios and Citywalk. They also do walking tours to the Brady Bunch house, which is about 0.4 miles away. They have a very charming store that sells all sorts of nice things made in Cali. There is also a nice bar and very nice restaurant on property. I would say the only sort of downside is the location. It is not bad but for what we wanted to see in L.A., everything is a little farther than we wohkd have liked. I would still stay here again because this is one of the most charming hotels I have stayed at.

Hosted a private 40th birthday brunch
    Maria E.

I hosted my husband's 40th birthday brunch at The Front Yard and truly had the best experience. The Tangerine Room is absolutely stunning , such a modern yet eclectic space with a cool 70s-inspired vibe, plus a beautiful outdoor patio that made the event feel so special. You can easily customize the space to fit any aesthetic or decor vision. Most importantly, Victoria the events coordinator was incredible throughout the entire process. Planning a big event while balancing work and small kids can be stressful, but she made everything feel seamless with how accommodating, responsive, and helpful she was. The food, service, and staff were all amazing. Highly recommend for anyone planning a larger event! And ask for Victoria because she really makes the whole process even better !

Amazing hotel! Great service for sure we will go again! My kids loved the pool! The shuttle was so convenient to go to Universal Studios!

A friend of mine from La Cañada stopped by to say hi on a Saturday morning, but Sis and I were achin' for some breakfast, so we grabbed her and headed to The Garland to enjoy their indoor/outdoor scene. We'd had dinner and breakfast before but this time we went for the brunch and my friend was super impressed. She's the Los Angeleno, but she'd never done the Hollywood scene before and this place, being a stone's throw away from Warner Bros and Universal Studios, emanates that glamorous vibe. We had fun soaking up the fun, seeing all the pretty people with money, and hanging out with bacon hanging out our mouths. I don't see that friend anymore since I moved away, but I was glad we took a moment to do something a little different with her. Love you and miss you, Esther!

View from the lobby bar to the pool area on a rainy December day.
    Johnathan D.

Love the vibe of this place. 70's decor with modern conveniences. Stayed on a super rainy weekend. The lobby was packed with people playing board games, having a drink and just catching up. The layout is really warm and inviting with dark woods and orange earth tones. The bar staff was amazing and the views make you feel like you're not in the urban sprawl of LA. I can't wait to come back again.

Staff was very welcoming & friendly. Hotel room is very quiet & comfortable. Everything worked well; water in sink & shower, A/C. Room stocked well. I was offered a small bottle of wine or two water bottles from my room as a gift. Room service was friendly and speedy! Food was great! Loved the retro 1970's SoCal bohemian styling. Took the free trolley bus shuttle to Universal Studios. Definitely coming back.

The clerk wasn't outright rude, but for the first several minutes seemed pretentious, like I wasn't good enough to stay there. He didn't introduce himself or ask my name; I introduced myself and asked his name after check-in, and he warmed up a bit. It felt like I'd caught him doing something wrong or arrived before he was ready. I had to ask multiple questions because he didn't offer information or engage. My customer service was on point--his, not so much. I'd been driving all day and was exhausted, wearing very casual clothes, but he felt very judgey. I asked to see the rooms after reading reviews. The first was rundown and not worth the $150 he quoted. He kept going into the back office between questions, implying he was busy or nearly full (there was only one car outside). When I asked to see the other side of the hotel, which had allegedly been updated, he bragged about being fully booked, though I only ever saw three cars. Odd. The second room was just okay, but I was too tired to find another hotel, so I stayed one night. Few things frustrate me more than visible neglect and lack of detail. There were drywall screw heads popping out, scuffed walls, holes, and water-damaged bathroom drywall from a poorly placed glass shower door--crumbling onto the floor. The floor itself was dirty. The outer entry door was peeling badly, shedding bits of clear coating onto the floor and my hands. The blinds appeared to not have been cleaned in months--which should be done regularly. The bed frame was filthy--dust, debris, bits of wrappers and food. It was clearly dirty, with oils, handprints, and dried liquids (I'll leave that to your imagination). The closet doors, off-white, had visible hand grime. The disinfectant wipes I used were brown - yuck. The lamp was dusty, an outlet near the bed had a broken metal piece stuck inside, and both the bathroom vent and hair dryer were caked with dust. The dryer filter hadn't been cleaned in ages. The countertop above the mini fridge was detaching, the bathroom shelf was decaying, and the shower glass hadn't been cleaned. The creamy drip marks on the wall--hopefully conditioner or soap--remained, and the grout was mold-stained. A simple bleach spray would've fixed it. The shower water pressure was awful, with calcification that needs vinegar soaking. It also leaked from the stem. Meanwhile, the sink had too much pressure. The cleaning staff were wonderful--always offering help. The issues here clearly stem from management, not staff. I realize this isn't a four-star hotel and that my standards are higher than average. Having worked in property management and emergency response, I've been in many homes across all conditions and know what "clean" should look like. I attached photos (which don't even capture all of it) so others can decide for themselves. Public beds and showers should be cleaned frequently so dust, germs, and bugs don't build up. The initial clerk did warm up by the end, and wasn't outright rude, just awkward and pretentious at first. When I checked out, a different man was working. He was extremely pushy, insisting I stay longer despite me saying I had to get back on the road. Then he handed me a clipboard and said it was mandatory to fill out--a sheet listing my name, room number, and space for comments, stacked under previous guests' notes. I told him I'd review the hotel online instead. He insisted I fill in each section, so under "comments" I wrote "review on Yelp." Other than being pushy, he was friendly--but it was an annoying end to a stay that wasn't worth the cost. Not the worst stay I've had, but definitely not one I'd repeat.

Good continental breakfast included. They even offered us more snacks for the road when we came back to collect our bags. The pool is small, but gets the job done - and open 24/7 (while observing quiet hours). Hollywood Boulevard is in walking distance and it's a short ride/drive to Universal Studios and other local attractions.

I recently found out the Magic Castle workaround, where if booking a night at the Magic Castle…read moreHotel directly and they tell you that they have openings at the MC upon booking, you can get into the MC without a member. So we did just that to celebrate my bf's birthday. Every staff member that I interacted with from the time of booking to the time of checkout went above and beyond with customer service. It's rare to feel such warm service these days and they provided just that. The hotel itself is rated a 3 star hotel so don't come expecting anything super fancy. It's an old hotel with very simple rooms. The bathrooms were a bit dirty, you have to slam your door to get it to latch, and you can hear your neighbors. But overall the room was comfortable and just what we needed for a place to lay our heads after a fun night at the Magic Castle. There are lots of fun complimentary amenities that make the hotel feel geared toward children, as well as a 24 hour heated pool. They offer self serve soft serve, one of the massive soda machines with tons of flavors, a popsicle hotline by the pool, snacks and full-size candy bars, and a morning espresso machine. There is a tightly-squeezed parking garage under the hotel and they'll drive you up the short hill to and from the Magic Castle if you need it. Overall the helpful staff and the simplicity of visiting the Magic Castle made this a good stay for us, even as LA locals.

Stayed at The Tilt Hotel at Universal Hollywood (Ascend Collection) from Jan 2-4 and had a very…read moredisappointing experience. The room had a noticeable odor upon arrival. While it looked superficially clean, there were visible cleanliness issues, including what appeared to be mold or heavy dirt around the sink area and at the top of the shower. Several basic amenities did not work properly: * No hot water for the majority of our stay On Jan 3, after spending the entire rainy day at the amusement park, I returned to the hotel freezing and in need of a hot shower, only to stand in the shower for over 40 minutes waiting for hot water that never came--the water was barely lukewarm * Air conditioning did not work * Shower handle and window knob were loose We contacted the front desk multiple times starting around 10 PM on Jan 3. Staff acknowledged that multiple rooms were experiencing the same hot water issue, yet guests were not notified. We were told room changes were not possible and that refunds were not allowed, even though we considered leaving to stay elsewhere due to the lack of hot water. A maintenance worker came briefly and said he would return but never did. The next morning, after continued follow-up, housekeeping tried to help by preparing another room so we could attempt to shower, but the water was still only lukewarm. Housekeeping staff were kind and did their best, and they deserve credit for their effort. Overall, the lack of hot water, cleanliness concerns, poor communication, and inability to resolve or properly accommodate a known issue made this stay unacceptable. This experience fell far below expectations for an Ascend Collection hotel.
