I joined BMF Training at the end of June 2024. I had fallen out of shape and was the heaviest I've been in years. When I joined, Coach Mike and I started with a body scan and goal setting. He took his time getting to know me, my strengths and weaknesses, and created workouts that were safe for my back (two herniated discs) and made me stronger overall! It is now November 2024 and I feel incredibly stronger and leaner, my clothes are fitting so much better, and I have lost almost 20 pounds (nutrition is also a big thing). I've worked out my entire life, but strength training is new to me. Coach Mike has created a program for me that is challenging, effective, and motivating. I work for a school district and had planned to train here just for the summer, but I am addicted to my workouts and don't plan on stopping. BMF Training started with Coach Michael Rodriguez. Since its inception, BMF has grown from a gym to a full blown community. The people here come literally in all shapes, sizes, ages, backgrounds, and with all different, personal goals. The factor that drew me in initially was that it wasn't about a fancy or clique-ish clientele but rather just your goals. This is what we all have in common and how BMF grows (via word of mouth rather than a marketing budget). Since I've been with Coach Mike, I have personally exercised while pregnant (okayed through my OB, of course) up to 3 weeks before birth, had a healthy baby boy, experienced postpartum depression and anxiety and in turn used the gym as part of my therapeutic recovery, and even grown relationships with all kinds of people here. My husband has also gone to BMF and it is interesting to see how both of us grow and stay challenged --no matter how long we have been here. The schedule has multiple time slots in the morning, lunch time for working folks who have a break, and a couple afternoon-evening times during weekdays. There is a Saturday make up day and Sundays have a weekly bootcamp. Your membership here includes unlimited attendance as well as access to BMF's InBody machine that measures one's muscle mass and body fat percentage. Beyond this, the location is great as it is just off the 405 on Beach and down the street from the popular Bella Terra shopping center. I see myself staying with BMF for as long as they're in business. Why? I thrive off of the prescribed workouts that vary each day (Max Effort Leg and Arm days, Dynamic Leg and Arm days, Conditioning days, Bootcamp days) and most of all, the community. 6 months ago, I broke my shoulder and was told it would take at least a year to gain basic mobility back. As a professional dancer, this was my worst nightmare, and I felt truly hopeless. After not being active for a very long time, I stumbled across Mike's gym, BMF, and took a chance to see if personal training here would be a good fit. IT WAS! I training 2-3 times a week, and within 3 months, I felt like I had 99% of my shoulder mobility and flexibility back. I was even building on strength! Mike was so knowledgeable about the mechanics of the body, how each exercise utilizes my muscles, and provided alternative exercises when my plantar fasciitis was acting up and I couldn't so exercises that required putting weight on my feet.
