I was unsure of what to expect when going into this workshop and I got way more than I could have imagined!! It's a fun environment and you are free to be as creative as you please! They help guide you through the steps and make something that seems difficult to some (myself), very easy and fun! If you love creating but maybe don't know where to start, then this class is a blast! And you get to go home with your work that night!! I would recommend to everyone. We had someone in our group that has a condition that did not allow her to stay due to the fumes from the chemicals used. (The fumes were not really strong and they have good ventilation). Regardless, she could not stay. They offered to make her piece for her or refund her for it, which was so accommodating of them and very appreciated. The staff is excellent and VERY helpful to those of us (myself) who are not very "handy" when making things. I even broke my piece that they had put together for me and they fixed it in under 5 minutes and we're happy to do so! I will definitely be going again soon. Also, it is very worth the money. Some of the things you can create there would cost more money to buy it from a shop (and you wouldn't have had the fun of making it).

My husband and I went here for a date on a Sunday afternoon and are so sad to discover that this location is closing! I love that you can pick out your own craft from TONS of options in advance and it's cool that they have a bar with nonalcoholic choices too. Mine took two stencils to complete and the ladies were very helpful. Overall, easy to follow and so much fun. I will def be going to another location next holiday when I'm ready for some new decor! read more

My wife and sister-in-law and I went to Board and Brush this morning for some painting and stenciling fun. I'd never done it before, and yet by the end of our painting session, I had made a beautiful work of art on rustic wood that is definitely headed for hanging in our living room. If you and your family are looking for a fun, artistic activity, Board and Brush in Oswego is a great place to go. Great experience from start to finish. Staff was completely ready for us when we got there. They were extremely helpful in choosing stain and paint colors. There are so many projects to choose from. This was so much more fun than I ever thought it could be. Got a little frustration out with hammers and meat tenderizers (apparently I love distressing wood) and after sanding, staining, stenciling, painting, and waxing... wow! I'm crazy for the sign I made! (And I'm not crafty or artsy at all so this is WAY COOL.) Can't WAIT to go back!!! read more

Just went here for a bachelorette party and everyone had a blast. We thought that all we were going to do was just stencil our saying on a board - but it was a lot more involved than that. From distressing the wood, staining, assembling, and stenciling we all walked away with a beautiful sign we can claim we made ourself. The staff were very patient and helpful - Mike the owner, Megan, Brittany, and Sophia. I would totally go back and would recommend it for private parties if you're looking for something new to do. read more

Established in 2018.

Katie & Mike, the owners of B&b Oswego, attended a workshop for their anniversary and thoroughly enjoyed their experience. They were immediately hooked and knew that a business, like Board & Brush, would be perfect for their family. Katie's passion is teaching and Mike is a DIY junkie. Owning and operating a Board & Brush studio is not only an exciting new adventure but also gives them the flexibility to spend more time together as a family. It hardly feels like working when you love what you do every day!

Meet the Business Owner: Katie I.

After graduating from the University of Illinois, Katie started her career as high school math teacher at Neuqua Valley in Naperville where she also coached the sophomore volleyball team. Eight years later, she left the classroom behind to stay at home with her daughter when she was born. She traded in calculators and lecturing for diapers and sleepless nights! Mike attended NIU and will always be a Husky at heart. He is now a Senior Manager at Accenture, specializing in IT Test Architecture.

Studio 60 was absolutely terrific. The studio is bright and airy and it is in a cute little house. My daughter got to pick one painting to do and it was very difficult for her to pick one because they have a variety of paintings to choose from. The party was scheduled from 12:30 to 2:30. I provided food and cake and the studio provided me with juice boxes, water, paper plates and napkins. The kids had a blast, they all got to take their master piece home and my daughter got to take a canvas with all of her guests hand prints on it. The birthday party was a success, it was very different from the other parties we have had, it was laid back and relaxing. They played kids bop music in the background while the artists painted, at one point the girls made it into a dance party. I am extremely happy with the service that was provided to me and my daughter. They provide classes throughout the month, they have a calendar online and they offer adult classes too. The last two times I went I painted my pet dog Bernini in March and yesterday I painted a small spring scene. The staff even acknowledged my birthday with a birthday hat at my seat. Last night not only did we paint, but we learned how to play Mahjong with Gretchen and Colleen with Mariposa Mahjong. So cool! Both in March and last night, I was lucky enough to have Autumn as the painting instructor. She's very detailed and will help you in an instance if you get stuck. Everything is provided from an apron to brushes and the paint. All you have to do is let your creative self flow. At the end of the evening, I was talking to the owner Pam and was surprised to learn she offers other fun and creative activities like charcuterie boards, mosaic garden art, chunky knit blankets, wine glassses, art boards and even a 4-hr Bob Ross oil painting. There is a small bar area that serves nonalcoholic and alcoholic beverages and a few food items like pretzels, a packaged charcuterie, a small pizza, and a variety of snacks. You're also welcomed to bring your own snacks, but not BYOB. There's something so cathartic about sitting down and painting no matter if it's a masterpiece or not. I'll be back next week with my Pilates friends to do another painting. I highly recommend the studio for a fun evening with girlfriends, a date night or even go by yourself for some me-time.

A group of 6 of us went. It was a lot of fun! One worker is assigned to each table to help you with any questions you need. It's cool cause all the designs and you get to customize the color scheme, "distress" your work so it's more hands on then Just a regular painting event. They also have drinks you can purchase wine beer soda etc. everyone is very helpful and it's a fun time! We are going again next week! They have outdoor options, coat hangers, quotes. Other events are pillow cases or door mat Update: 8/16/19 we went a second time and had even more fun this time around! The staff was beyond helpful with anything and everything. I got to add a little glitter to my snowman which I absolutely loved. We went on a night that there was an extra board included of the Chicago flag. The sparkling moscato is delicious, they had music videos going and it was just a blast. I use to the do the wine and painting events and those were fun but I'm not an artist and my artwork always came out looking meh. I'm also not a crafty person but when you do Board and Brush no matter what it comes out adorable! How it works: you get your wood, distress it and bang it with a hammer (which is actually quite fun and stress relieving), then you pick out a color stain for your wood and stain it. Next you can do a wash color on top, which I skipped this time. Then you work on your decal pulling and placing. Then painting it, letting it dry, and optional waxing. What's cool is if you have pieces that need to be put together or add handles, hangers to you get to do that too! Very hands on, but don't be scared they will help if needed! Kayla worked at our table last night and she was awesome, yet all the girls walk around and help out if needed as well (I just never caught all there names!) it's personal and fun and you get to know the staff too and they remember you! At the end of the night you get a punch card for each time you come and after 5, you get a free one! read more

Had a super fun ladies night at Board & Brush Oswego, our second trip now! The staff that night (Julia, Jessica and Namratha) were well trained and super helpful with my ambitious project! From helping with color selection for the washes, making sure I never ran dry and always being there for my incessant questions and concerns....they went above and beyond to help and make sure I was satisfied with my piece. Highly recommend a fun night out for any occasion and you get to take home something special too! read more

I am ADDICTED!!! Make a great product while having fun with friends! The first 5 times I went, I made personal signs as gifts for family and friends. Everyone loved them. I finally made a wooden box for myself and love that I can change out the decor every holiday or season. Now, I like to make signs for my clients when they close on their home. I can't wait to go again!!! read more

We went last night for a Girl's Night Out and had a blast. The staff is always so friendly and helpful. I love that we all got to make our own unique project that is personalized with our family names, and in our own color schemes. So many different options, it is wonderful. I can't wait to see the new Christmas project being released soon. We definitely plan on going back. read more

This place is the best. Even super not-crafty people are able to make something they will love! The workers are very helpful (even helping me redo a mess-up by hand!) and the owners are hands-on and so accommodating. I've gone here 4 or 5 times now, and can't wait to go again. read more

If you're looking to create an awesome project this is the place to do it! The staff is super helpful, knowledgeable and funny! It's a great night out with friends or family. Their bar items are very reasonably priced too. I've been 6 times already and loved it each time! read more

I love this place. I have made a board and today I made a pillow. I have had 2 amazing experience's with them. They are there to help you when you need it but give you the room to put your touch on it. They are very encouraging and I will definitely go back. read more
