I was really struggling with whether we could keep my rescued young female Chocolate Lab long term. Maya had way too much energy and was really just wild! My Chinese Crested, Hooper, had previous training but was still struggling with reactivity and socialization. I 100% RECOMMEND BOARD N BEHAVE. I had met Farren at a dog park a while back and was blown away by how well she trained other dogs. I was having a tough time getting my four month old miniature goldendoodle to behave and not have accidents in the house. He wouldn't stay in his kennel or playpen. Our Henri (English Golden Retriever), has PTSD from a fire we had a few yrs ago at our house. It triggered severe anxiety w panic attacks. Which brings on severe colitis. If I could leave 10 stars for Farren I would! We came across Board N Behave on FB when we were looking for someone to train our 2 yr old poodle mix. He's a very anxious dog, had major anxiety around other dogs and people. Our hope was to be able to take Bogey with us on our family outings without him causing a major scene and for him to be able to enjoy himself on or off leash. I did quite a bit of research and spoke to a few other dog training facilities, but as soon as I spoke to Farren I knew she was the one. I immediately knew we could trust her and that Bogey was in amazing hands. He stayed with her for 3 weeks and literally came back a different dog, in the BEST way. I entrusted my year + golden retriever to the most wonderful trainer, Farren. He stayed for 2 weeks, but Farren kept me updated with texts, short videos, and photos. At the end of his stay, Farren worked with the 2 of us on his skills until I felt comfortable. I can now walk him off leash and he heels next to me, pays attention to changes in directions. Game changer!! Nothing beats a well trained dog... especially a well trained puppy! After sending my first 5 month old puppy to Farrah and seeing his amazing new behavior and well trained commands- I sent in our 6 month old puppy. Both dogs came home with so many new commands and great obedient behavior. After two weeks with Farrah both puppies can- load in and out of the car. Leash walk perfectly. Sit. Down. Stay. They have the place command down (where they go to their bed and stay until I release them). I do not like to leave 1 star, therefore I am leaving 2. With that said, my review is based solely on a phone call after reading all these awesome reviews about the dogs and types she works with. I felt lucky to live close enough that she may be able to board and train our dogs. No such luck, within 1 minute of the phone call I knew our personalities would not mesh when she advised me her time was valuable and if I could get to what services I'm looking for to see if she is a fit quickly. Against my better judgment I did not hang up then. Instead I went on to tell her about my 2 rescues, our needs and apparently she no longer works with aggressive dogs even though some of these reviews state she does. I also read what prompted her to open her business and that path seems to have changed according to not taking in a new rescue who may or may not be aggressive, as we have only had him less than a year and 1 recent incident, which happens to be why I called her. In hopes to never have another incident again. So, with all that said, this business has great reviews so I am sure they are good at what they do, but they need to update their mission and learn to speak to potential clients in a more professional and polite manner. As I stated, I knew before she declined my dog, she wasn't for us strictly because of her tone and rude behavior. read more

I love these ladies! Farren is amazing. Not just as a dog trainer but I just loooove her. She and her assistant Marissa were very very good with my two pugs. I was so worried about boarding them but I ultimately trusted them and I'm glad I did. Farren assured me they get lots of love and it's obvious they were well cared for. Way overdue review! My husband and I adopted a beautiful young white Labrador retriever from a shelter about a year ago. She came from a hoarding situation and seemed to have had it pretty rough. When we got her, she had little scabs all over and was extremely malnourished. I assume she had to fight for food and being one of the littlest and skinniest of the 28 dogs, she didn't look like she won many battles :( We currently have our baby; a male Labrador retriever who is one giant 95lb. lovable cuddle bug. To make a really long story short, the new lab did not like our current resident dog at all. It became a very hostile environment and our current dog (even though much bigger) began hiding in the corner of the garage and refused to come out in fear of being attacked any time he stepped into her presence. To say we were in over our heads was an understatement. Immediately we reached out to trainers. We had a couple come to the house and worked with the dogs. Both times, they concluded our home would not be the healthiest environment to give this girl puppy the rehabilitation she deserved :( That's when San Diego Lab Rescue and especially Farren stepped up to the task. We were very fortunate enough to be able to surrender her to their care. Farren then worked for moths to rehabilitate and give the girl puppy the life she so strongly deserved. She's a miracle worker who truly cares for the dogs she comes into contact with. Because of her, this dog has a chance of a happy, long life with a forever family. Thank you Farren. read more

I do not think I can convey in writing just how awesome Farren Mahone is as a trainer. I contacted Farren when our Husky/Saint Bernard mix, Storm was about five and half months old and 60lbs and I knew she needed more training than we could do ourselves. Storm was stubborn, persistent and did not understand the word no, no matter what we tried at home. Before training with Farren Storm would push her way between us and our other dogs when we were giving our other dogs attention. She would bark at our other dogs incessantly when they didn't want to play and not stop even if our other dogs growled. Storm barked at any other dogs she saw when we took her out in public (an issue I knew would only get worse as she got older if we didn't get help). No matter what we did or tried we just couldn't get Storm to learn what she needed to or listen when she needed to. As you can imagine the stress at home was a bit much with 60lb puppy we couldn't control. We couldn't even get Storm to walk on a leash without pulling or flailing on the ground if we used her Martingale collar. Storm hated the car so much we had to pick her up to put her in the car and then she would upset herself so much she would get car sick. The very first time Farren and I spoke on the phone Farren spent an hour on the phone with me giving me tips and advice to help Storm even before I decided to hire her. Hiring Farren was the best thing we could have done for Storm and our family. Storm is now a puppy who looks to us for direction, she listens, she no longer bothers our other dogs or barks at other dogs she sees in public. Storm walks on a leash with no pulling and will actually listen to direction from us, all things we could not do without Farren's expertise. My Review has been a long time coming. In Dec of 2016 my family and I adopted this great little pup who really just became a horror for us. I was pregnant at the time and it was very hard for me to train him... Finally after a breaking point i researched for dog trainers in our area and came across Farren. She was excellent with organizing our training dates around my due date and was a pleasure to work with, we dropped our dog off for 2 weeks and he came back a new dog. In the end the timing was just really bad for us to get a dog (especially a puppy) and we did end up getting our dog adopted. I have an 8 year old Parsons Russell Terrier and a 2 year old Brussels Griffon mix. They don't listen and they're a pain to walk. I loooove Ferran! We are using her for behavior training for our 10 month old Australian Shepherds. She is helping our family adjust to these two high energy pups! What a difference just a few weeks has made! The pups are learning to sit when the doorbell rings, to walk on leashes without pulling with added distractions, and to not be aggressive in guarding among other things. My husband and I love bringing our dog India here for daycare, boarding, and training. Farren and Kaylin do a great job with the dogs and they are always excited to see India. India is always excited when being dropped off and is tired when she gets home. I also love the fact that there is no extra charge to have meds given to your dog, unlike other places. Prices are beyond reasonable. India walks much better on a leash after a small amount of training. She has allergies so I pack her own treats and have never had the issue of her being given something that I didnt pack. For those who love to adopt dogs from shelters, Farren always has a few that she is training and helping to find homes for. She doesn't just turn them over to any family.
