Disappointed for sure. Stopped in for a beer for the 1st time since we moved back, mid-afternoon Sat. Numerous staff (mostly visiting amongst themselves) & few patrons. No one even a acknowledged us when we walked in to the bar. Finally, after waiting a few minutes, the owner asked us what we wanted to drink & got our beers. Service was good, but food was awful. I had their prime rib commercial. The meat was cold and shredded so fine I thought I was eating an MRE, but then it would have tasted better. Even the gravy & potatoes were tasteless. I actually enjoyed the little cup of corn the most. Other food I saw & have tried here was good, but do not order the commercial. Boathouse restaurant is in need of restaurant impossible makeover. It looks like something out of the 60s. The salad bar looked like elementary school food presented to senior citizens. This was my hang out back in the 80's when I came to town. I remember the old game room and bait shop. The new one (at least to me) is a bar and restaurant. Had the Rubin and Queso both were good. I never had a Rubin made with cubed corn beef, was surprised at how good it was. Queso is like my dads so it was good too. read more

I've known about The Boat House for years but only recently came here for the first time. It's just off old highway 14 on the east edge of Waseca and it overlooks Clear Lake. I was there on a weekday just after the typical lunch time, so it wasn't busy but there were still a decent amount of customers. There was a lunch buffet. I believe there were two types of stir fry, three soups, a salad bar and maybe some pasta. I decided to order from the menu and had a Cuban sandwich and fries. I love Cubans. They are my go-to when I'm at a new place that has it on the menu. This Cuban was very average. It was a little light on meat and the flavor was adequate. The fries, on the other hand, were very nice. Basic no-frills crinkle cut fries, but they were delightfully crisp. The person I was with had their version of a club sandwich and said it was fine. The service was very good. The prices were typical. The food was good but not great. The view of the lake though was impressive. All together it's a good place to check out, especially on a sunny summer day. Parking Issue: Since one side of the restaurant faces the lake, the parking is on the other side. The lot couldn't possibly hold more than 10 cars, so you're forced to park on residential side streets. In front of people's homes. And it the restaurant wasn't busy at the time. read more

Sub par experience overall. Decent size menu, and really decently priced daily specials. Food was bland, slightly below average. Decent portions. Extremely slow service at every step of the way. There was trash stuck in the booth and broken crayons all over the floor of the booth they just "cleaned" for us. Wouldn't recommend, but wasn't so bad I would say avoid it. read more

We were in Waseca camping for the Memorial Day weekend when we decided to go to the Boathouse on clear lake. We were out on the lake in the boat and docked at the restaurant. I was a little surprised that the entrance from the lake was a little disappointing. But once we got in the lower bar it was awesome. We were met with the nicest bartender and had drinks and appetizers. The boneless chicken wings we found out were hand breaded and hand cut. They were great! The kids both had meals and the food was cooked perfectly. I recommend stopping in here if your on the lake or just in town. Also Sunday's is happy hour all day long in the lower bar. We went to the Boat House for the first time but were disappointed. We arrived at 7:30 pm and were not greeted initially. At the bar, we asked Charlotte if we could sit out side. She said there were no seats available. When we asked about the table on the patio no one was sitting at, she said that they only seat families there. My wife and I decided to wait for patio seating. After 20 min and still an open table, I let Charlotte know that we wanted to eat and did not understand why they were saving a table for a potential family when they had two paying customers waiting. She said in a sarcastic voice, "go ahead and sit there". We realized later that it was her table and she wanted it for more people and a bigger tip. A simple vodka tonic, an order of deep-fried cauliflower, and a wonderful sunny afternoon overlooking the lake. (DO NOT sit outside if the wind is blowing over the lake towards you. Pee-Yew it stinks). Spent a wonderful afternoon on the deck here, had a few drinks, and other than slower service it is a really nice spot! I did note that we were 2 of the 3 people in here, so having so little interaction with the server was strange to me. I chose to go to the Boathouse for a couple of reasons. First, I wanted to eat and look out at the lake. Second, I wanted to support a local business as we try to get thru this covid-19 business. The food was sub par and the service was worse. But, I did choose and no one forced me to go. I hope they will recognize that even though they have the lake going for them it isn't enough, They need to provide a quality experience, quality food and quality service. I'm all for supporting local business but they will have to do better to for me to spend my money there. It's too bad, the weather was great and the lake was beautiful but the Boathouse was a complete disappointment. read more

We started at another establishment in town tonight but after no service we left and looked to Yelp to help us. We had no idea The BoatHouse was here. What a hidden gem! The service was top notch! Our waitress was excellent! She was crazy busy but still treated us in a timely fashion and so sweet. Food was awesome! So glad we found this place. We will be back often!
