this place is SICK. in a good way. they have free pool, free golden tee, and ELO in the jukebox. there is nothing more to ask for in a dive bar. hell yeah i love the bob inn. three dollar tall becks and tall labatt blues every day! and they play hockey games! and the bartenders are a buncha classy gals. apparently back in the fireside bowl days this place was hoppin and got tons of business.. now it's pretty chill and usually there isn't a crowd. especially on weekdays. i've gone here the past two years for my birthdays and i've had a great time everytime. make sure you check this place out. they got a pool table too! read more

This is my new favorite bar. Mainly because it's the closest one to my house, but also because the bathrooms have "The Bob Inn" in tile on the floor (it may as well spell out "class" if you know what I mean). There's nothing clever on the walls. There's no whimsical or retro theme to the bar. The beer selection is typical. The atmosphere is very bar-like. It's a very average bar. However, I always have fun when I go. You gotta go on Thirsty Thursday and check out the Coffin Banger - the best DJ in the city. Also, if your lucky the Tamale Man will show up. read more

My wife and I lived a couple doors down for about 4 years. This was our bar, and rightfully still is, even though we now live in San Diego. It was our home. We watched countless Bears games, Sox games, and an occasional Bulls game. We watched the horrors of 9/11 from the bar. We even had a set of keys behind the bar for when we got locked out (even though Jimmy showed us how to pick our locks!). It is a true Chicago bar with all the love and personality you would expect. I stop in every time I go home and the cold Budweiser is capped before I even sit down. It is nice to go to a place where everyone knows your name (sorry for the 'Cheers' reference, but its fitting). Honestly my eyes are watering as I write this, because these people are family. There's not a lot of places like it in Chicago anymore, sadly. To all developers who threaten the Bob Inn: watch yourselves. There are many people who love this place and will not stand for your tactics. Just back off and go somewhere else. You aren't welcome here (unless you want to make new friends, then stop in!). Oh yeah, best jukebox in town hands down. My love to Annie and Jimmy and all the girls behind the bar. GO SOX!!!!! Awesome dive bar. Close to public transportation (always a plus), cheap drinks, and super friendly staff. The bathrooms are also pretty decent, from what I remember of it: I'm pretty sure I blacked out in it. I suffered no injuries and didn't pick up the Swine Flu: BEST. read more

Staff is great, real friendly I've only been a few times but the most recent visit was the Bob Inn Christmas party. With every beer you got three raffle tickets in which you had the chance to win party mix nuts and Christmas Hams!!! The owner wore a personal mike announcing the raffle winnings in a very familiar Grandpa's a little buzzed sort of way, I loved it (aside from the 40 something wench bitter about her job, and not to shy to yell about it.) Aside from festive visits it's never really packed decent Juke box and pool/game fare. read more

The bob's a great dive, with some serious local regs. We stopped in for a few shots and some champagne of beers while we caught the ass-end of the cubs first loss to the Dbacks. I couldn't tell if there were any sox fans there because all i could see was cubs hats. It was quite packed because of the game and we were still able to get drinks right away. A definite plus. This is what a Chicago neighborhood bar is all about. It ain't fancy. The lighting leaves something to be desired. The pool table is old. The decor is all about slapdash beer promos from generations past, the booze selection is slim. But, the regulars and the people behind the bar and are great people, unpretentious in a neighborhood that suffers from pretension, and they don't take shit. If you're looking for a shot and a beer and maybe a local sports game without distraction this is the place. So I went here a few months ago for my friends birthday and i wasn't impressed. It was a saturday night , so it was packed in there, which confused me cause the place really wasn't that cool. It was a mix of old drunk men and 21 year old hipsters with attitudes. I had to go to the bathroom and there were some girls standing in front of the door. I said " excuse me" and they all gave me the evil eye cause i asked them to move. Chill with the tude!! Bob Inn is the ultimate! I live less than a block down the street and it is my always go-to bar. I have a lot of friends from different countries and I make sure when they visit that they all spend one night here. Recently I had two sisters from Norway I went to high school with there and they loved it. It's even excellent for when you're on your lonesome and just need a shot or two. Definitely my favorite bar in the immediate area to bust down to and have a beer. The bartenders/regulars are always friendly and welcoming, which is my favorite part. I recently moved very close to the Bob Inn. I've been a regular at a sister bar to the Bob Inn for years, so when I moved to the area I figured I should start giving it a try. This past Saturday I went after their Barathon event, and was having a great time until I was met with some very unpleasant customers (who I assume were also regulars). I did nothing to provoke them, yet they were very rude to me, and I could tell they were talking about me behind my back the whole night. At one point, one of the bartenders even joined in with them. I hate to be so petty, but I definitely did not feel welcomed at what is supposed to be a friendly neighborhood bar, and it will take a lot of convincing to ever go back. read more

I went to Bob Inn the first weekend I moved here and that was back in 2001. This place sccares me still. The service wasnt bad, but it wasnt friendly. I was watching a football game there and was too scared to get excited since it was very quiet. I think I got Crabs from the seat also. read more

I noticed this place when I first moved in down the street and hadn't thought much of it. I never really saw anyone outside or bothered to venture in. A couple months ago I finally wandered in and was pleasantly surprised. It's actually a lot larger than it looks from the outside, the bartender Annie is really sweet and down to earth, there's a pool table, and a jukebox. They have great cheap beers and give you back quarters for laundry. All in all I have to say its my new favorite dive. read more
