Came by on a Wednesday after the Cubs game. Had never been before. It was 11:15pm when their website says close is 1:00am. Door is locked. There are probably 8-10 people in the bar. Patron sees me confused and walks over to unlock the door. Bartender, who is an older white guy with grey hair, says we're closed. I'm confused, he says we're closed again. Was absolutely bewildered. Woman who opened the door for me came out confused too. Went somewhere else after and explained how I ended up there to the bartender. Turns out this is just what they're known for: arbitrary grumpiness and an unwelcoming vibe. read more

I'm not one to write reviews, but after 3 bad encounters, I have to say something. Patrick is a terrible bartender. Not only is he incredibly rude, but he's also dirty. He blew his nose and then poured a drink without washing his hands--disgusting! He insulted my boyfriend multiple times and made derogatory comments about women. Additionally, the last time we were here, it was my boyfriend's birthday. I mentioned it multiple times to the bartender, and not once did he acknowledge it. While he wasn't obligated to do anything special, it's common courtesy to at least recognize when someone mentions a birthday. Every time we've been there while Patrick was working, we stayed for hours and probably only had 2 drinks because of how slow and bad his service was. It was very obvious our glasses were empty, yet he wouldn't come over to ask how we were doing Patrick is a very bitter person, and you can feel the negative energy around him. It's shocking to see this level of unprofessionalism. As someone who used to work in the service industry, I know this is not how you treat customers or anyone! I would avoid this place at all costs when Patrick is working. read more

Stopped in, for the first time, on my way to a hair cut. Thought I'd give them a shot. Ordered a Son of Juice, was flat so exchanged it for a Two Hearted, also was flat, but didn't want to seem too difficult, so I just drank it. Didn't feel very well later in the evening. Neighborhood pub and def not a dive. It's clean, it's modern and looks like most other Irish bars around the city except that it's sized to suit the hood. Decent beer and spirits collection. No food but it's okay if you order in from elsewhere. Ask the bartender for menus. Shuffleboard is offered. The only problem is, the board is not level, so... one team will always have a slight advantage. Per photos they do events and it gets busy. However, I've never been nor seen it as such. They have tv's out there to watch sporting events and games. Indoor during the Holiday season is nicely decorated and has a very friendly and inviting atmosphere. This place certainly can grow on you. It grew on me after a few visits. The regulars, once you get to know them, are pretty nice. There's one pool table inside and it's free on Sunday's. Ok, this is a dive of the highest order....but I love it. Where else can you get cheap beer and drinks AND karaoke on a weekend without a huge crowd? You can definitely get all of the above here. The bartender that I've seen there most often is friendly and serves up drinks fast with a smile. The other patrons can range from wild bachelorette parties to small groups of friends, but it's definitely great for people watching. Was helping a friend out with a project then decided to grab a beer. Yelped it and RVP seemed like a great bet. We walked a few blocks until we arrive at what is literally, a corner bar. Great vibe inside, very "old Chicago" with great selection on tap and in bottles accompanied by free pretzel sticks. They have daily specials and a St. Patrick's day party that I will be sad to miss. Solid drink list. Very chill place. Kind of an Irish style pub. They have daily specials. They don't do food outside of pretzels however you can get food delivered here they have no problem with that. Bartenders are great. If you have the same one a few times they will remember you and greet you like a friend. P.S. - ignore the reviews calling this bar "racist." every time I have come here there are people of all ethnicity and have never seen or heard of any issues. My friends always get excited whenever they head to this place. I never understood why. . . .until I went with them. All I can conclude from this experience is that I really need to find some new friends. It was karaoke night when I went, and from what I can gather, it's karaoke night a lot at this place. While I hate any unnecessary noise in a bar or pub, I really can't stand it when that noise is being made by a human modulating his vocal cords in either impersonating a raptor, or the less desirable singing of rock and roll music. Of course I know karaoke can be somewhat amusing. But it wasn't the tongue-in-cheek fun karaoke like a 70 something year old man singing "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" Instead it was fat, scruffy, middle aged men delivering energetic renditions of "Master of Puppets" fully convinced that they were, in fact, James Hetfield. But that all didn't matter once I saw the draft beer selection. For a seedy looking joint that would probably consider pouring a can of Old Style into a Dixie cup as elegant, they had a good selection on tap. I ordered a Bass and paid only $5 which is impressive for this area. Everything was looking okay until I tasted how watered-down it was. Just to be fair, I ordered a pint of Fat Tire next and got the same thing. That was a deal breaker for me, and that's why I gave this place one star. I can look past these mid-forties burnouts and their wives dressed in leopard-print everything, but when you start fucking with my beer, we have a problem. I'd rather pay a $7 for a beer that was drinkable than $5 for a pint that was, at a minimum, 20% water. I speak not only for myself but for all beer aficionados, you might be able to fool the lager boys with that kind of chicanery, but you're not going to get us. read more

Even after a completely unnecessary number of $2 Coors Light 22oz. beers in plastic cups, on top of the bellyful of beer I was already barely functioning with, and despite the 45 year old mill operator looking guy doing Korn karaoke (pretty well, frighteningly enough), I own that pool table. You are a good bar. Not good like "a place I would recommend to others" but good like "I wreck shop on your pool table during sad, weird, please-make-it-stop karaoke." You know what, though? I'm okay with that. Your man-tender laughed at my jokes, the neighborhooders graciously shook hands and smiled when they lost their pool table, the beer was DIRT CHEAP and the absolutely physics-defying gut hanging off your long haired karaoke man(?) was more apropos than hideous. A bar that falls somewhere between corner tavern and Wrigleyville drunk shack, good times are usually had at this bar. Despite the prices on their premium taps and mixed drinks, I find the staff to be friendly and inviting for a good story or two. If you get along with them well enough you might wind up at a 4am bar to hear them vent about their job. Good times. Thursday/Saturday Karaoke nights tend to be a good time and only one or two groups will dominate the procession on any given night; but I warn that the song book quality varies with the host for the night. read more

I'm not sure what to make of a bar that's completely dead at 10:00 p.m. on a Friday night. If it's a downtown happy hour place, it's alright because you closed at 9:00. If it's a late night place, it's alright because no one's showing up for another two hours. And I guess if it's a neighborhood joint, as RV Pub supposedly is, you assume that all the regulars have passed out on their own sauce at home, because why else would a bar be completely empty at 10:00 on a Friday night? First and foremost, this friendly establishment is cash only. For me, that is very important because I have fallen victim to the plastic generation and never have cash on me. The ATM machine was also out of order the night I went...so...be prepared. Continuing n, I'm with Rob L on this one, there aren't many things I dislike more than karaoke. I hate it. I will not sing it no matter what is at stake. I went here the other night, a Friday to be exact, to catch the end of the Hawks game to find a white binder on our table. Which only meant one thing, karaoke night. Kudos to those that do karaoke and are actally good. Kudos to those that aren't good and think they are but are having fun. I'm all for having fun, it just doesn't include singing. I really liked this place, cozy little atmosphere with a friendly and attentive bartender. We enjoyed our visit to this bar. Bartender was friendly, beer was fresh, and everything was clean. Nice big televisions. Pretty good beer list and a healthy selection of local beers. I see some Yelpers refer to it as a dive bar. It appears recently renovated and I would consider it more of a neighborhood bar not a dive bar. It is actually nicer than many of its competitors in the area. We will return for sure. read more

RVP has new owners and classed the joint up a bit, which is nice. It is still our favorite neighborhood bar and our favorite bartender is Jamie. Virginia is great too, we just don't see her very often. Who am I kidding, they're all great people. The drinks are reasonably priced, the atmosphere is pretty chill and they now have some decent wines. They have a jukebox and no longer have that clunky, ugly karaoke station. My only complaint is that the only "food" they offer is pretzels. I am just the kind of girl that needs food while she drinks. They will let you order food to the bar though, so I use that option pretty often. read more

RVP is the perfect corner bar, with a GREAT craft beer selection, friendly staff and a laid back atmosphere...and who could forget the tamale guy that stops by (they're delicious by the way). I recently worked with the owner, Sean to put on a 30th birthday party for my fiancé and he and his wife were prompt and extremely accommodating. The day of he set up a table for food and reserved tables in the back of the bar. He and his staff made our guests feel welcome and created an amazing experience for the birthday boy. An obvious 5/5 stars, RVP is my new go-to spot! I love the neighborhood bar feel and the service was very friendly. We visited on a Saturday night. A big shout out to our bartender, Mo! She was so great and so much fun and really made the night special. She also knows how to whip up a tasty pineapple upside down shot, which I highly recommend if you visit (which you should).
