This place is straight to the point. You can walk in and find all of your hunting, fishing and gun sporting needs. They even have survival options for a Zombie Apocalypse. I purchased my first gun here via layaway and introduced my family here for various purchases and we never leave disappointed. When we can't find something in particular, we come here and they always have what we need in stock. For example this Saturday we were taking the kids fishing and needed live bait around 1pm on a Saturday! Success!! There aren't very many Bait and Tackles in Richmond that I know of, especially that sell live bait, so this place is super convenient. I recently bought a Browning Xbolt 0.30-06 hunting rifle at Bob Moates. All in all, it was a rather satisfying experience. They have a large inventory of both hunting and fishing equipment. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. In fact, while they are completely businesslike in their demeanor, if you want a discussion they will take the time and give it to you should you want or need clarification on what you are looking for. This is a great little shop, bought my first firearm in VA here and they know everything when it comes to guns. Very thorough and helpful, have a huge selection of shotguns and handguns. My husband and I went in looking for a utility knife for him to keep with him. We were never acknowledged and the cashier had a lengthy conversation with a customer who had already wrapped up his purchase. We hung around, clearly waiting for someone to help us with a case, and of the three employees we could see not one spoke to us. Maybe we didn't look like their typical customers. Ive been in this gun shop several times but Ive never bought anything. Ive always found the staff to be knowlegable and helpful for the most part. My only complaint is their pricing is not remotely competitive with any other local shops. They are hands down the most expensive in town. In a couple cases I have seen them ask more for a used gun in fair condition than it cost to buy it new. I think this is good place to gather info or advice, grab minnows or maybe even some gun smithing but make sure you shop around at some of the other local shops if you are in the market for a gun. read more

Prices are absurd and staff is dangerously under-educated. The level at which they are price gouging due to the Newtown tragedy is shameful. expect to pay a minimum of 3 times fair market value for anything in the store, go to a big box store or the internet and you will get better service and much much better prices. There prices have always been too high but they are close by and i like to support small companies when i can, I know what I paid for items there less than a month ago and the same items have a 60% markup on them now! They say its because of the cost of the new resupply but I checked the suppliers and they did not charge more, so Bob's is clearly price gouging, I bet they had a party to celebrate the Newtown shooting and all the money they are making from it. read more

Having done plenty of business with them since, I even got first guns for my kids there too. Grace, the owner, often takes time from her busy day to chat with the clientele. Her employees make you feel welcome and are helpful and courteous. They also boast a good product selection and decent customer service. Today I called to inquire about if they had a particular handgun in stock. The gentleman answered the phone and said good evening bye motorsport shop how may help you in a very fast tone in a very fast pace . I asked him if he had a particular type of handgun in stock. After I got done asking him if he had. The gun in stock. He then said my name over the phone and then he said it again in a very irritated tone so I answer back to him yes Neil. By the way his name is Neil the person I'm talking about. He then said my name again and said what are you doing man come on man don't you have any better things to do. I had to take my fast head away from the phone for a second because at this point he really pissed me off. I said I'm asking about a firearm if you have it in stock and I'm on my lunch break right now. At this particular point in time I'm at my job on my break and I am a customer inquiring if they have a gun or not. He answered in a very rude and quick tone no we do not have the gun. At this point I had to move my head away from the phone yet another time because he was really really starting to make me angry. I've been said so do you have a gun or not and he said no I do not we do not have the gun. I then said I and I said you know what Neil if this wasn't me it was another customer somebody else and you said this to them and answer the phone this way and talk to them this way that is very rude and unprofessional and I don't appreciate it. I hung up the phone at this point in time. The sad thing about this is this is not the first time I have had an encounter with this employee and does is not the first time he has gotten me personally upset. But this is not the first time he is gotten other people upset that are both customers of the store and employees of the store. I know for fact that the owner will not do anything in regards to this employee lot do anything to stop it to solve it rectify it fire him change the attitude do anything to stop any of these really really bad encounters to stop happening. This employee Neil has been responsible for a gunsmith that we had in the store to up and quit and leave and not only that but this particular gunsmith who is a loyal customer of the store before he worked for the store for many many years invested many many amounts of dollars into firearms and other products at Bobs's sells. He pissed them off so much that he is left and now the store does not have another gunsmith. You would think that after losing the gunsmith over an employee and employee reactions and encounters you would think the owner would want to do something about it but no she does not. He is also made loyal customers who have been a part of the store not want to come back at all he's made the store lose hundreds if not thousands of dollars. I am just a normal customer myself I know these fact because I listen and observe when I'm there and I also hear things from little birdies that tell me these things. It's real sad that a store that has been around for since the 60s and has a lot of heritage to it is slowly dying all because of one very rude unprofessional employee. And I know that if I go to the owner of the store and complain nothing nothing will happen because I have done it already before the past. And I know if I go to any of the managers on duty again nothing nothing will happen. At this point in time I have been debating on whether or not I even want to continue frequenting this business. I've been a loyal customer of the store for years. And it pains me to have to make that decision. Because as we all know this current gun market. You've kind of have to shop around and look for the best deal in your local area. If I had any advice to you the reader or any other future customers. Stay away from this place it's not worth it there's other places you can go to find other products at either better price.
