Hello Green Top. My name is John Futrell. I was in the store around 2pm today. I came to get some more, "Moebas" I had a very good experience with the previously purchased ones that resulted in one lost, but some decent 2 and almost 4lb Largemouth! I arrived today and saw some on the bottom of the glass display back in fishing. There was another brand on top of the Moebas so I couldn't see if there were any others besides the, "Mimizu" option. There was one gentleman helping two men with some reels and braided line. After a few minutes he went over and told another staff member that he had another customer that needed help. The other staff member was leaning surf rods up against a shelf to the right of where I was standing. He is a white guy, buzz cut with some thinning on top, he had, "a chew" in which he spit into a soda bottle, green shirt and a mustache. He came up front and I spoke. I asked him if there were any other color Moeba down below. He replied, "This is all we have!" before I was even finished speaking. I was going to say that I couldn't see completely what was on the bottom of the display because there was another brand of similar lures on top. I told him that, and he looked down to see. He was not friendly or pleasant at all like Gary and Justin have been in the last two recent trips. Very short and he seemed annoyed. I asked for two of the Mimizus, and told him I was going to continue shopping. I dealt with similar reactions at the old location, which I why I stopped coming to Green Top for several years. I too know what it's like to be busy at work, but if I was short and rude to my patients before their procedures, I would definitely be in trouble. I went to Greentop looking to see what guns they had and to price them for a future purchase. The young guy at the counter was very knowledgeable and helped me to find a gun that felt good in my hands that I was comfortable with. He gave me the best advice... before I buy my gun, go to the shooting range and try it to make sure I feel good loading, unloading and shooting it. I took his advice, and signed up tor the class so I can learn gun safety and get certified. Next step, license. One thing at a time. read more

I do not understand how everyone isn't giving this 5 stars!?! First of all it has the world's largest shotgun shell in front!! This is why we stopped. If you are traveling and not trying to get a picture next to the world's largest stuff, you are a bit dead inside. We stopped here on the way back from Virginia Beach and the selection was incredible as were the deals!! I've been doing a lot of shotgun sports lately and they had Ceasar Guerini and Beretta shotguns that were beautiful at good prices and they had everything else you could want for any outdoor pursuit! I could have spent all day in this place and dropped an entire pay check. My wife was nice enough to remind me to do neither of those things, so I ended up with a multi pistol case, which was exactly what I have been looking for, for quite a while. If I am ever near this place again I will stop and spend more money. read more

First off I fell in love with the store to a degree. This will be updated on my inevitable return. One thing that felt missing, was it seemed there weren't as many employees as would be expected. This is an opinion, and who knows maybe short staffed. With that being said, found the folks in firearms knowledgeable and friendly. The 10mm Glock might be on might Christmas list Santa! They have a huge selection of pistols, revolvers, rifles, and shotguns. This is mind boggling in a pleasant way. Their prices are very competitive, The fishing section was exemplary also. I couldn't believe the amount of gear, and again extremely nice prices. As for the hunting section, it looks like a work in progress. They have an alright clothing section. Currently I can't say they have the best prices due to their overhead, but their customer service is usually on point. I had an absolutely horrible experience here today, and in short, I would NEVER shop here again. When entering the building, there is a sign stating firearms entering the building must be inspected. I had a firearm with me, holstered. I didn't see the part where they didn't have to inspect holstered guns. That part of the sign was a bit under the inspection part. I put my gun on the inspection table, the guy at the inspection table screamed and cussed "WHAT THE HEL* DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?" I was speechless and didn't know what to say. I didn't point my gun in an unsafe direction, nothing. He then screams, embarrassing me in front of everyone in the immediate area, "YOU SINGLE-HANDEDLY ENDANGERED THE LIVES OF EVERYONE HERE". By placing my gun safely on the table? I pointed to the sign, confused, he said "UHHH CAN YOU READ". Bro who tf are you talking to? Then he proceeds to go on saying he wasn't trying to be a di** but someone blew a hole in something doing that". Um sir, I'm armed security. I know how to handle a firearm. The fact he feels so comfortable CUSSING at customers is crazy and a direct reflection on management that clearly don't care. I went in to buy a firearm because pricing is fairly good here, found one I wanted, however I walked out. I will NEVER be back. Id rather spend more money and go to Bass Pro. read more

We went to Green Top to sell back a gun that was a gift from a few years back. We chose Green Top because that's where it was bought from. It was fired only once and in immaculate condition. We were given a very low buy-back price. I felt like they saw that we were women and decided to rip us off. The person we were dealing with was very nice and suggested we could get a better price just about anywhere else but not being comfortable carry a gun around, the owner chose to take the lower price. I've only been to Green Too twice in my life - once in the old store and once in this new store. I won't be back. It's not a comfortable place for me. I much prefer Bass Pro or Cabella's. read more

This is my second visit, after a positive first experience I was excited to return. The selection is awesome and products are quality, with reasonable prices as well. The downfall was unfortunately customer service! I hate to single them out for this as I am experiencing it with more frequently but my experience was as follows: found some clearance items proceeded to the checkout counter and informed the teenage cashier, who's conversation I was clearly interrupting with my purchase, that they were on clearance. He disregarded me when I said they were not ringing up right and said it would be taken off at the end. Trusting he knew his job, I proceeded with the transaction. Upon getting the receipt, I was a little more than frustrated to see that everything had rung up full price. When I brought it to his attention, again having to "interrupt" his conversation he just looked at me and told me that there was nothing he could do and went back to his conversation. When I told him I wanted a refund he told me he couldn't do it and that I had to take my purchase back to the fishing counter and have them figure it out. Now, pushed off onto another individual, I was forced to go through the same process again, and explain what had occurred. He then told me I would have to go back and take a picture of all the sale items, over 15 items, and bring back the pics to show them. When I told him how many things it was he said he would go and check. After being overcharged by 30% and wasting almost 45 minutes of my time, both of which going unacknowledged, he could have taken accountability for the establishment and offered me either an additional percentage off or a gift card. Check your receipt! Either purposely or not, overcharging your customers is not acceptable and either refusal or hesitation to rectify the situation is a major detractor in the customers experience. read more

I experienced some issues getting my first order on Green Top's online store. The first problem was when I didn't get a 10% off coupon for creating a new account. I had to contact a customer representative to get the code. The second problem was when I placed my order for a rifle which was listed "in stock" along with boxes of ammo for it, I later received an email stating that the rifle is actually not in stock. If I receive my order in full, I'll update my review. For now, I'm worried they'll charge me and send me ammo and then later apologize that they can't get any more stock of the rifle I ordered... in which case I'd have expensive and useless ammo. UPDATE: Finally got my order. Once the initial problems were fixed, everything else went smoothly. read more

I'm a girly Tom boy and love fishing and outdoor activities. When in the area I hit this store and Bass Pro shop since something's are cheaper here , but some things actually are higher than BPS so I shop both. It's a bit neater coming to this store since they moved from the much smaller usually always crowded store. I love how I can get what I need but am usually able to find it A prettier/girly version. I don't see why I can't do all the things I love and have to get man or boy items. My pink/purple Abu Garcia I got years ago is still my favorite. I have many browning items here that are so cute and love how I can wear fish and fishing hook earrings. Just because I want to fish or go out in the ATV or crazy Jeeping that I love I shouldn't have to loose my style :) read more

My go to spot for anything related to guns! I am not a hunter, yet, or a fisherman, but I have a huge passion for building and shooting guns. This is the place that has it all! They push a lot of Daniel Defense ARs, but they do have a ton of other selections. If you don't see it, just ask! They have an indoor archery range, not one for shooting. Hopefully they see this post and will build one. They have a wide variety of fishing and hunting equipment and gear. I would recommend this place to anyone! read more

So much better than Cabela's or Bass Pro. They have the items in stock and typically up to 30% lower than Cabela's/Bass Pro Shops. Plus the stores employees actually ask if they can help! I was looking at a Powder ($39 vs $49 and not even in stock at the above companies) when a Green Top employee asked if I needed a specific primer and took me right over. I didn't even need to ask. Then I was looking at tree stands and again a employee asked if I needed help. While he was looking into my question, a lady walked out of her office and briefly stopped and asked me if she could help! Their ammo selection is awesome ( what I was looking for was out of stock at Bass Pro). They have racks of rifles, and shotguns which you can handle without standing in a bus line getting a deli-style ticket (again Cabela's/Bass Pro) with out hovering over you and having to ask. They also had racks of used long arms. The pistol counter had a good selection and lot's of employees to help (here you do have to get an employee to show you the firearm). Great selection of rife scopes. I wish only that they carried the full line of Kimber rifles. read more

I know that reading guns in is hardly a way to recover value, but honestly, the guys at Greentop seem to have been given a mandate to take the public for every last nickel. I went up there to trade a used Remington 870 on a used Beretta pistol. they said they would allow me $150 on trade on a used gun they already traded at a discount. a check of their website showed the crappiest 870 the had was for sale for $430. I don't mind a profit, but this relentless and remorseless fucking of the public has turned me off of the whole operation. I'll find somewhere, anywhere else before my intelligence is insulted like this again at the Greentop counter. read more

Went there on quiet Sunday morning on 9-3-18. I went there based on the reviews on here and I've literally passed it a hundred times in my life going to and fro on I-95. It's a huge store with ALOT of variety and choices in every department. However it's all overpriced. I ended up spending $150 but I wish I hadn't because the staff were horribly rude. I was purposely ignored in multiple sections. The worse lot was in the knife section where the young guys were more interested in the after work activities of a young woman working there than in selling me a high dollar knife. Then there was the cashier a young guy who found an empty packet of plastic lures in my basket. Instead of apologizing to me for having an empty obviously stolen bag of lures secreted into the floor display he intimated that I stole them. So I'd steal something then attempt to pay for it???? There's that special kind of STUPID you often hear about in the south. I won't be back. The staff and high prices will break this place just like it did Gander Mountain. read more

I made a special trip down to Green Top from NoVA based on a recommendation from a colleague. I had seen this place from the road while traveling down 95 but had never stopped in. I was looking to trade in a sporting shotgun on an evil black gun, but had little luck up in NoVA and at the Chantilly gun show. I was referred to Green Top, and called them to inquire about trading my gun in. They offered a ball-park figure for my gun over the phone, which many shops are reluctant or flat-out REFUSE to do - and with good reason, not everyone is honest. But the representatives I dealt with seemed to build rapport quickly and took me at my word, so long as I held up on my end. I made the trip down, and negotiated a fair trade. They happened to get the EXACT gun in the day before I showed up, so everything worked out perfectly. And that was just the beginning of my experience! While the paperwork was going through, I was able to browse around the store. The selection of guns, bows, outdoor gear, fishing equipment, ammunition, accessories - EVERYTHING was nothing short of mind-blowing. Prices were fair and the employees seemed very knowledgeable - something that seems less and less common with these large outdoor stores. I would consider coming back down this way despite a 2-hour drive each way. I really was impressed with how my transaction was handled!!! read more

I have been going to Green Top since the early 60s. At that time, it was a small place of business and as kids, we loved looking at all the guns and ONLY wished we had money. Green Top has truly turned into a First Class hunting and Fishing place. The people there are friendly and knowledgeable. It is a fun place to go and look even now 40 some years later.... Every time I go in it reminds me of when I was teenager. You can go to the BIG box hunting and fishing places near Green Top, but if you want a TRUE Hunting and Fishing place... this is the place! Well, I have gone through the multiple pages of reviews for this store. We went to Green Top on a recommendation based upon location. I happened to see more positive reviews than negative, however the negative reviews I DID see were like hammer punches. My husband and I like Green Top a whole lot. We found their prices to be competitive and employees to be engaging and polite. I think if I had one constructive thing to say it would be for the pistol counter specifically. I felt a little bit intimidated, and at times ignored, however it could have just been a very short staffed and busy day. The intimidation is a personal thing, I am not well versed in firearms, therefore my inability to answer specific questions led me to that feeling. However, that being said, our overall feeling at Green Top is positive and we would DEFINITELY recommend going there to anyone!! We have had nothing but good experiences at Green Top, if we needed help finding something, help was available, with a smile no less. Very cheerful and happy to help us. read more

Went here to pick up a gun I had ordered online. All the employees I talked to were efficient and friendly. Especially outstanding was Justin, working the customer service counter. My transaction was finished in minutes. However, the lumbering Virginia Star Police background check took over an hour and a half. Not the store's fault. As an aside, mask compliance was pretty danged good for both customers and staff. But, there were more than a few in both groups strutting around not worrying about others getting sick. For those staff not wearing masks that's a supervision problem and reflects poorly on management. They probably don't know that if one of their non-mask wearing employees can be shown to have caused a customer or another employee to become sick with COVID-19 there's a lawsuit with their names on it, too. read more

First time here, this place is pretty cool. It's a rather large store and seems to accommodate to the hunter/sportsman quite well. The one thing that I would give this place amazing accolades for is the way they handle the gun sales. They have quite a vast selection and have all the larger guns on display on the back wall. When I mean display, I don't mean "Oh hey that's pretty". No, they are on the wall and you can pick them up and hold them, pretend you're a mobster, etc. This is rather nice if you're in the market for a gun but would like to touch, hold, etc. the guns before you buy (as I hope you would). Another neat thing they have is they sell used guns. This is great considering doing a face-to-face sale for a used gun is a little sketch itself. We roamed the store looking for stuff but that's the only really gripe I have with the place. Identifiers for where stuff is, is "ok". The general items you could see, but if looking for specific items you might as well go hunting in the hunting store. Overall, I'd definitely come back just for the firearms section. Visited this store yesterday around 11ish. Walked up and down the fishing aisles without anyone asking if I needed help. Employees literally stood around talking to each other while blocking the jig aisle. I had to say excuse me, so I could shop the jig section. Even then nobody said a word to me.
