They referred me to a specialist who did not accept my insurance and who wanted to charge me $250.00 just for a second opinion!! Dr. Degraff is "old school" caring, honest and professional. He explains what he's doing and why. He did the filling with no problem and did a thorough check and said I did NOT HAVE gum disease. It's been over a year and the filling he did is just fine. He does NOT push special treatments and his staff is friendly and competent. He does not take my insurance, however he does have very reasonable "new patient" fees. It's worth it to have peace of mind.

The appointment was made for today. Upon arrival, I was notified that the dentist did not accept this plan! I traveled from Deltona. I did what he said and the hygienist cleaned them well and now I have no issues! My husband also has issues with his molar with a crown and they helped him with that as well! When I pointed out what they missed they were shocked & asked me who did the dental work. Honestly I couldn't even remember Dr. Cowell's name but when I started describing the office they knew exactly who I was talking about because he has such an excellent reputation. Since moving away from Deland I've gotten cleanings at multiple offices and always had to point out those particular fillings (they aren't tiny either). Fast forward another few years, and I had a filling done in Orlando. The filling fell out after less than a year. This shocked me because I've never had any problems with the ones done by Dr. Cowell are still fully in tact after 15 years! The office in Orlando wanted to charge me full price to redo the work. They also said most fillings don't last more than a few years anyways. Well I wasn't going to repay the same dentist who obviously didn't do a good job in the first place. I drove over an hour to see Dr. Cowell who not only put in the new filling for the same price the other office quoted me, but he has a 5 year guarantee/ warranty on his work. He takes his time and does it right the first time so the guarantee isn't really needed but does provide peace of mind. In more than 16 years of seeing Dr. Cowell my one frustration was the time I paid for an appointment for a toothache only to find out there wasn't anything wrong with my teeth but my sinuses were inflamed and causing the teeth sensitivity; not really his fault. In the past I've wondered how you could tell if a dentist was any good. If they complete whatever you need and you don't walk away in pain what's the difference? Well unpaid compliments from other dental professionals seem like good sign to me. I'm currently living out of state for school but I will definitely be continuing to get my dental work done with Dr. Cowell when I am home to visit.

I do not leave negative reviews generally, but I thought I'd do so this time. The people at this…read moreoffice were very nice, but I did not appreciate the way they did business. I arrived at this office and waited 10 minutes alone in the lobby with nobody anywhere to be seen. Finally someone came and gave me paperwork to fill out and I was called back. I was told I needed a set of x-rays and a cleaning and then presented with the cost. I told the person my visit should be 100% covered, why am I being charged? She said it was for a cancer screening. I told her I did not want the cancer screening so that charge was removed. This happened again later in the visit with a medicated rinse- I was told there would be a charge of $44 for this rinse. I had to then deny that service. The problem I have is these costs were not presented to me as options. Had I not known better, I'd have paid over $100 for services I did not want. It felt like they were trying to slip services in without my knowledge in order to charge me for them. Incidentally, I ended up being charged $75 for x-rays because it had been less than a year since my last x-rays in another state. This is of course on me, but I will say every other dentist I've ever been to has verified this information before and proceeded in a way that prevented me from having to pay out-of-pocket. I will say the staff was very friendly and my teeth looked great afterward. The office is pretty old and outdated, though.

I had…read moreconsulted a couple of other dentists about a molar with a root canal that was hurting again and they all told me that getting it extracted and getting an expensive implant was my only option. Upon recommendation from a friend, I dropped into his office. Dr. Prakash, on the other hand, said there was better than a 50% chance he could redo the root canal and preserve my tooth - for a fraction of the price of the implant alternative. He did a great job and now, couple of weeks later, I am without pain and my original molar is still with me. And I didn't have to empty out my wallet! His staff was very friendly and I had a great experience overall. Highly recommend. There aren't that many dedicated dentists that look out for you out there!

I'm the kind of person who typically researches a business to death before finally going so I took recommendations from friends and got to it. Two of my friends recommended Dr. Rae so I gave the office a call in desperation. They were able to get me in to see Dr. Rae within hours! Everyone from the front desk to the doctor himself was friendly and warm. We set an appointment on Monday for an extraction after weighing all the options. On Thursday the pain was so intense that I called the office to see if there were cancellations that I could sneak into, there weren't but I was told first thing Friday morning (they're typically closed). I went in for the extraction at 10am and sat back down in my car to drive home at 10:40am. I never knew getting a tooth pulled would be such a pleasant experience, but Dr. Rae and his staff showed me that dentists don't have to be feared. He explained every step and what to expect along the way, making me feel prepared and at ease. I am so happy to have finally found a wonderful dentist in Deland!
