Cleaning was quick and efficient - thank you, Walter! Dr. D fixed the issue with my tooth. Insurance was explained and next appointment booked. What more can you ask for? I believe that there has been a corporate drive to improve customer/patient care by all of the staff. There was concern and questions from everyone to ensure that I was comfortable the entire time.

After my exam, X-rays, and treatment plan, I was told I needed one extraction, a bone graft, five fillings, and eventually five crowns. I signed a financing agreement for approximately $4,600 to begin treatment. Later, after speaking with my insurance company, I learned that DeLand Smiles is actually out of network with my insurance plan. My insurance representative called the office with me on the line and asked why I had never been informed. The response from the office was: "There's a sign in the lobby. It's up to them to see it and read it." That answer was extremely disappointing. If a patient believes an office accepts their insurance, that should be communicated clearly before they commit to thousands of dollars in treatment--not left to a sign in the waiting room. I have no issue paying for quality dental care, but I do have an issue with a lack of transparency. I now owe $4,600 and still need additional fillings and crowns, which I was quoted another $5,600 for. Because of this experience, I chose to continue my treatment with a dentist who is actually in my insurance network. My advice to anyone considering this office: Call your insurance company yourself and verify that the dentist is in network before signing any financial agreements. Don't rely solely on what you're told. I hope this review encourages the office to be more transparent with future patients so no one else ends up in the same situation. I was not looking for a new dental office or a new provider. I was trying to maintain continuity of care with a clinician I already knew and valued. I am deeply disappointed that I am no longer able to continue care with her because of the way this clinic operates. The online intake process required completion of multiple mandatory questions that were not related to dental care or medical history. These included requests for my social media handle (with the stated purpose of tagging patients online), questions about hobbies and personal life experiences, and whether I wanted the office to pray for me. These questions were not *optional* and had to be completed in order to proceed. In my view, this type of intake process is inappropriate for a healthcare setting. Requiring patients to provide social media information for public tagging and including religious or prayer-based questions as mandatory intake items crosses professional boundaries and raises serious concerns regarding patient privacy, consent, and professional neutrality in a healthcare environment. Patients should not be required to provide personal, social, or religious information unrelated to their care in order to access dental treatment. Because of this experience, I chose not to proceed with care and canceled my appointment. Intake practices of this nature may warrant review by appropriate oversight or professional regulatory bodies to ensure they align with expected standards of patient privacy and healthcare professionalism. Based on this experience alone, I would encourage other patients to carefully consider whether this practice's approach to intake, privacy, and boundaries aligns with their expectations before scheduling.

I had…read moreconsulted a couple of other dentists about a molar with a root canal that was hurting again and they all told me that getting it extracted and getting an expensive implant was my only option. Upon recommendation from a friend, I dropped into his office. Dr. Prakash, on the other hand, said there was better than a 50% chance he could redo the root canal and preserve my tooth - for a fraction of the price of the implant alternative. He did a great job and now, couple of weeks later, I am without pain and my original molar is still with me. And I didn't have to empty out my wallet! His staff was very friendly and I had a great experience overall. Highly recommend. There aren't that many dedicated dentists that look out for you out there!

When I pointed out what they missed they were shocked & asked me who did the dental work. Honestly I couldn't even remember Dr. Cowell's name but when I started describing the office they knew exactly who I was talking about because he has such an excellent reputation. Since moving away from Deland I've gotten cleanings at multiple offices and always had to point out those particular fillings (they aren't tiny either). Fast forward another few years, and I had a filling done in Orlando. The filling fell out after less than a year. This shocked me because I've never had any problems with the ones done by Dr. Cowell are still fully in tact after 15 years! The office in Orlando wanted to charge me full price to redo the work. They also said most fillings don't last more than a few years anyways. Well I wasn't going to repay the same dentist who obviously didn't do a good job in the first place. I drove over an hour to see Dr. Cowell who not only put in the new filling for the same price the other office quoted me, but he has a 5 year guarantee/ warranty on his work. He takes his time and does it right the first time so the guarantee isn't really needed but does provide peace of mind. In more than 16 years of seeing Dr. Cowell my one frustration was the time I paid for an appointment for a toothache only to find out there wasn't anything wrong with my teeth but my sinuses were inflamed and causing the teeth sensitivity; not really his fault. In the past I've wondered how you could tell if a dentist was any good. If they complete whatever you need and you don't walk away in pain what's the difference? Well unpaid compliments from other dental professionals seem like good sign to me. I'm currently living out of state for school but I will definitely be continuing to get my dental work done with Dr. Cowell when I am home to visit.
