I work in the construction industry as a Project Manager and recently had to have a 500kw MTU generator (20,000lbs and about the size of a storage container) delivered and picked at one of my jobsites. The generator delivery was scheduled for a delivery day by the manufacturer; however, they wouldn't give me a specific window or time of delivery on that day. I reached out to Bob's and spoke to Ron about what I had going on and he recommended I have the generator delivered to their yard for a controlled delivery to the jobsite along with the crane and counterweights. Ron visited the jobsite to get a good look at the layout and was able to put a solid plan together for a very good price. This past Monday the generator was delivered to Bob's yard in Lakeside and we schedule the crane pick for 7am a couple of days later. On the day of, the generator showed up on a flatbed semi and about 3 minutes later the crane showed up. The operator and rigger walked the site and within about 2 hours they were able to offload and set our generator within the new CMU enclosure and pack up. These guys from the time of getting a quote to the time they were rolling off the jobsite were professional and did a fantastic job. We will likely be going straight to Bob's for our next generator pick later this year as I don't see a need to shop elsewhere at this point. read more

Horrible service. Ron & Wes won't help you at all so don't bother. Lead to believe this job would be anywhere from $1500-$2500. My bill is $4,000. When I said "I'll never use you guys again" Ron replied with "that's probably in your best favor to not use us." So they don't help and act extremely tough on the phone, insane this place is allowed to treat customers like that. read more

Tried to talk to one of the foreman and he acted like a jackass by telling me that they have a permit and beyond that they don't have to do anything else. These people don't know what they are doing. One of their estimators came to my location because I wanted to assess the feasibility of a project. I was looking for a "it's doable" or "it's not doable". I was given a thumbs up at the time of the estimation, so I made all the arrangements with that in mind. On the day of the project, they came and said it wasn't doable (nothing changed between when they first came and the day of the project). Their screw up ended up costing me a lot more time and money, but they never owned up to it. If you're looking for a crane company that knows what they are doing, stay away from Bob's crane. read more

We had such a great experience with Bob's Crane! We had a fairly unique project of needing to crane our 32ft Airstream Trailer into our backyard. We worked with Wes, who managed the entire project, including reassuring us (and our neighbors whose parcel we had to crane over) along the way. Justin and Anthony were the operator and rigger on the project, and were also so professional and pleasant to work with. These guys know their sh*t! Maybe time to retrain some of your drivers. Was just forced into oncoming traffic because your driver just started merging into me as his lane ended on the 67. The. When I honked he gave me the "wtf" hand signal. Unprofessional and unsafe, I'd hope they are safer in the operation of the crane than they are driving it. read more

It takes a major issue dealing with a business to write a bad review. I do not post negative reviews lightly. I used bobs crane to have a hot tub craned to my house initially in November 2017. It cost me $850. I decided I wanted to move my tub from my upper deck to the lower deck. I called them and Michelle looked up my previous job and quoted me the same price for the job which makes total sense. The exact same service was done. Did not use a bigger crane or anything. I had riggers on the first job and needed one on this job. She even specifically asked me that question and I replied yes of course. First time I used bobs crane it was fine. This time was a horrible experience. The crane arrived without a rigger. I was told that one was on the way. The crane sat in my driveway for two hours as we waited. I left work to be there at 1:00 and we didn't start until 2:45. Once the rigger arrived he got everything set up and took 1 hour and 15 minutes. I was ready to pay but the crane guy said I had to pay to bobs crane directly. I noticed the things he wrote on the sheet were inaccurate so I made sure to have him put the correct info on the sheet. He was hesitant. Next thing you know I get a call the next day and they tried to collect $1250 from me. I was so upset. That's a big difference in price. I most definitely would not have used this service had I known it was going to be $400 more than what I was told and for the exact service I had previous. They charged me for travel time on the crane operator and the rigger. They also charged me for 3 hours for the rigger and he was there 1 hour and 15 minutes. I was told because they are union I have to pay those fees. I was never told these fees the first time nor this time. I was shuffled through different people on the phone and wasted at least and hour and a half only to get scolding by Ron, I believe his name was, about my tone of voice he said he would call back and never did. Now I got a preliminary lien notice and the bill for $1250. I would like to speak to somebody that will not dismiss me and act like a professional business. Customer service was horrible. To top it off I have a large damaged area in my driveway where the crane sat part of the time waiting for the rigger. They make you sign off a release of liability to property damage beforehand so apparently they got away with that too. I don't know what to do at this point. This is not how customers should be handled. read more

When others said they couldn't do it, all referred us to Bob's Crane Service! Bob's delivered! My fiance and I bought a spa and it had to be craned into the backyard. Suddenly all the spa delivery services who said "they do it all the time" had an issue with the height, distance, etc. Pete came out on Monday, 16 Jan(a holiday for most) to survey and measure and Derrick showed up bright and early the 18th with a 40 ton crane with enough boom length to get the job done. He even backed in the spa delivery companies truck and trailer because their driver couldn't do it! Here's a tip though: most of these companies have a 4 hour minimum requirement and fuel surcharge. Do some research and factor that into the cost of your spa purchase. Most spa companies deliver to your driveway and that's about it. We knew we would have some crane costs but were prepared and when you definitely want someone who will protect your purchase and your home as they place it in your yard. Pay for good service especially when you have 1000 pounds of spa dangling 50 feet in the air above your home!!!!! read more

I could say wonderful things all day about Bob's Crane Service! They were amazing, just did a job for the company I work for this last Weds/Thurs, and I am so impressed with their efficiency, professionalism, and flexibility! We had them out Weds morning and Thursday morning, and they brought their crane out and expertly maneuvered it into a rather tight spot with wonderful precision. The job that I thought would take them much longer, they got done easily by lunchtime both days. Their whole crew was really great, but I have to say I was most impressed by their crane operator....wow! His maneuvering of that crane was so perfect and precise. We were moving containers with water as well, and every time he lifted something it was always a smooth, fluid motion and never jerking or halting, which was very important! They definitely made things look easy because they were so competent and good at what they do! I would definitely recommend them to anyone with a job that requires some heavy lifting...these guys are top notch! We couldn't have gotten our job done without them, that is for certain. After completing the survey and measurements to have some some wood carvings lifted into my backyard, Ryan estimated the job would "probably take 4.5 hours". He said the it might be less time but it could take more, so to be "conservative" the written estimate was for 5 hours. This led me to believe his estimate was accurate to within plus or minus a half an hour. When the job was completed on March 3 , I was informed the actual cost was for 8 hours. . I don't know if deliberately deceiving a potential customer with a low quote in order to get the business and then charging 78 percent above the original estimate is legal, but it certainly isn't ethical as they claim to be. read more

I have never written a critical review but feel I have to in this case. After days of conversation and planning for our new spa placement on our deck with their dispatcher, it ended up being an absolute disaster. The dispatcher neglected to tell me I needed to hire a rigor person to attach the crane to the spa. So the morning of, literally as the crane was on its way to our home, he tells me this. Needless to say I was completely unprepared for this and when I became angry, especially at the increase in cost for this rigor person, he cancelled the job and called back his crane stating that he didn't want any dispute with the cost even though I never said I wouldn't pay for the work. For about an hour I was without any crane to take our spa that was blocking our driveway to the deck. There is a lot more to this story but I feel like I had to share our very, very disappointing experience with Bob's Crane. I ultimately was able to hire Marco's Crane service to complete the work and have nothing but great things to say about them. read more
