It's super old-school so when you walk in it's very crowded with boxes on top of boxes and it's fairly dark at the back which I was told it was because some of the wines are light sensitive. I love knowing that they are so knowledgeable about the wines that they care for them in the proper way! They do have an extensive wine collection from all over the world and all price points. I did not have the pleasure of meeting Bob, the owner, today, but I did meet Baine, who works for Bob! He was so knowledgeable on all the wines and gave me the best options to try. This wine shop was a very nice find. I was randomly checking out the vintage display in the window of this wine shop when a nice man (I think he's the owner?) comes out and invites me in and starts chatting about wine. I don't drink but I did happen to need something to bring to a Christmas party where there were a lot of wine drinkers. So I asked for a bottle of red wine to go with prime rib. I said my price range was about $50 and he personally picked one out for me. On the party day, I opened it and aired it out for several hours like owner told me to do. I prayed that I hadn't messed it up but thankfully I didn't need to worry. The partygoers raved about it and asked where I got it. They said it was better than this wine they had at a friends house that was way more expensive and told me the reasons why. I'm definitely telling people about this place. I was so focused on getting the wine that I didn't even ask for the guys name who helped, but I have a feeling it's Rob after reading reviews. He was incredibly nice and patient while I explained what we were looking for. Halfway through I realized I forgot to include that I was looking for something a little harder to get, but it was perfect because he thought of a wine that isn't available everywhere! San Clemente gem. I was referred by some local friends that are legit sommeliers. I was reluctant because I don't know much about wine other than I like to drink it. I wanted to send sparkling wine in my place to a bachelorette party in San Clemente... but I was in Brooklyn. Google turned up some good reviews for Bob's. I called and spoke to a very nice woman who told me they don't deliver as a rule, but that didn't mean that wouldn't do it -- she had to ask Robert (I assume Bob?). Robert returned my call to say that he absolutely would deliver three bottles, and helped me pick out a good brand in my price range. He even delivered two bottles chilled and one at room temperature in case the revelers wanted save one for brunch or another celebratory occasion -- very thoughtful. Champagne and red wine lovers will find him particularly useful selecting premium vintages that won't disappoint. A couple of weeks ago we purchased 12-14 bottles of wine - different varietals, all based on Bob's recommendation for approximately $550. Out of the wines we have opened so far, 3 to 4 bottles were on the edge of being corked, one to two were not drinkable. Not good as we particularly mentioned concerns for his recommendations being older than typical age for the specific wine. To his credit he noted that he guarantees his wines and that we may return any corked bottles (we are not the type to do that). Fun, cool store, interesting wines (many offerings not seen in a regular wine store), would recommend purchasing current, drinkable wines. Prices typically 20% higher than online. read more
