I am in the customer service business inasmuch as I manage 6 auto dealerships and 1 motorsports store. So, I think I am qualified to judge levels of customer service. In short, Bob's Music is staffed with friendly and extremely knowledgeable instrument professionals. The owner is great. The staff cordial and very competent. They worked on two guitars for me and the work was A plus. The price....too reasonable!!!! I actually was so pleasantly surprised by what they charged me. It is so nice to actually get more than you paid for!!! I highly recommend Bob's Music. For sales, service or just gleaning knowledge about music instruments...you will be hard pressed to find a local music store with better people. read more

I am not even an amateur musician, just want to mess with a guitar for my own amusement. Looking for a "personal amp" I can plug in headphones so I don't annoy the wife anymore than I already do, not looking to spend a lot. I went into Bob's, not sure what I exactly needed. Sales guy popped right up, found out what I was after. We walked past the expensive stuff, led me right to the unit I eyeballed online. The price was in line with what I wanted, we discussed other options including cheaper routes I could take by ordering online. I picked up what he had in stock, he gave me a little break when I picked up some incidentals (not much, but made me feel good! I hadn't asked for anything) He even threw a few picks in for good faith. All in all, a great experience. If I end up actually learning to play this time, I will support my local music store! read more

Today (12/10/2015) I entered Bob's Music to peruse their instrument and effects pedal stock. I was in the store for well over half an hour without being greeted or acknowledged by any of the staff present. The salesman present was loudly bragging about getting a bottle of vodka for the evening to a customer, and didn't seem to care about much else. Soon afterward, the guitar technician entered the store with a six-pack of beer. The technician (who also didn't seem to mind anything happening in the store) cracked open a beer and began scratching lottery tickets behind the counter. I could not believe what I was witnessing! I had a few questions about pedals that were well-answered by the technician, and I asked to try out a used delay pedal in the display case. When I questioned the price, he searched eBay for reference, and then gave me an estimate $50 higher than the average selling price on eBay. After some frustration with getting the pedal to work, the salesman left to "find another power supply." The guitar technician then began kissing and hugging a woman in the middle of the sales floor, while I waited for a response on the delay pedal. After a few moments, the salesman said that they didn't have a decent power supply, and asked "are you actually interested in buying it?" I confirmed, and within a couple of minutes was told that the pedal was not in working order. I exclaimed that I was still very interested in the pedal (working condition or not) and asked what price they would be willing to sell it for. The salesman rudely responded, "nothing!" and stated he was going to repair it instead. I promptly left the store after this happened. I sincerely hope that all customers are not subjected to this treatment. I was in complete awe by the open consumption of alcohol, gambling, ignoring of customers, and inappropriate touching by the staff. I will not be returning to this location and will ensure that every musician I know in the Plattsburgh area will hear of the awful experience I had at Bob's today. read more
