Despite the grunge, I agree with other reviews that the selection of new vinyl is decent, the used is limited, and the prices are moderate to high-ish, but not ridiculous. A plus is that the condition of all of the used records has been graded, and, to my eye, the grades are conservative rather than inflated, which I really respect. I walked out with a few used jazz titles that I have not seen elsewhere, so, despite the limited supply, there were treasures to be had! This was the first of three record shops I visited in Burlington and, if these three are representative, Burlington punches above its weight in the vinyl shopping department!

I'm happy there's a huge used bookstore in Burlington since the two stores on Church Street carry mostly overpriced new books, and there are some other issues I have with these two stores, so I don't shop at either. I have already found some great used books at Speaking Volumes, and hope to find more in future. The Fiction/Literature section is voluminous, and I'm hoping that eventually the Sci-Fi is separated from the Fantasy--that's an old categorization that was already outdated in the 80s. The Mystery section is pretty nice with Christie, Hammett, Chandler, and others. Overall, this place is a reader's dream.

Instead of offering helpful advice or even basic courtesy, they were dismissive and rude, as if I were wasting their time. But that's not all--this shop is gouging prices to an absurd degree. I understand small businesses have to mark things up, but the prices here are blatantly exploitative. Some items are being sold at double their market value, and their singles are so overpriced it's laughable. They clearly prey on people who don't know better, which is disgusting in a community that's supposed to be about passion and inclusivity. The salesperson (possibly an owner) I spoke to was very nice and explained what I could get for them (they had the old three-prong binding, so I knew they wouldn't get me much). I brought in the skis and poles yesterday and dealt with the other salesperson (possibly too an owner) who helped me quickly find adult skis and boots in my size. The used items he offered me were in great shape. The prices were extremely affordable and with my trade-ins, I spent less than $100 on skis, boots, and poles (poles were new). Considering I'm just getting back into it, I didn't see the necessity of shelling out $250-300 at present. Fast, painless trade-ins, affordable nice used gear and great service-what more can you ask for?

This store is delightful! I was so pleasantly surprised by my visit. It's located in the first…read morefloor of an old house, across from Lantman's market. They have a variety of vintage women's clothing, shoes and accessories. This includes everything from casual clothing (jeans and sneakers) to formalwear. There's also jewelry, scarves- even lingerie. I got a kick out of the housewares, which included all kinds of funky glasses, dishes, candlesticks, art... Lots of interesting pieces, and I saw lots of potential gifts. In fact, I picked up a couple of cool bags for my sister's birthday. The place is really set off by the sounds of old music on the radio, which works beautifully in this cool shop with its lovely building and unique inventory. You could easily pick this place up and put it in a busier downtown shopping/tourist area- but I'm happy it's right here! Oh, and the coolest part? The shop is run as part of a nonprofit, and the proceeds benefit the local community help center, which includes a food pantry, emergency fund, and other services. The shop is small and the staff didn't look up when I came in. They spoke to the regulars and chastised a customer for opening a bagged back issue but it was otherwise silent. They have the comics on racks separated by companies but no New Release section for monthly comics. It made browsing kind of difficult. I bought a trade paperback, a reprint floppy and a monthly issue of a new series. The tpb shelves were packed too tight in some places so there were pressure points on some of the books. I did appreciate the amount of ABSOLUTES and oversized hardcovers, though. Overall, I would go back again but I don't know that I would go out of my way.
