So.... I felt compelled to write a review for this business following a brief moment of "buyers remorse " when I prépas for 5 repairs as a new customer only to then read the terrible Yelp reviews. Having picked up my shoes today, I can assure you that my Chanel's/Prada's were not only well cared for but in lovely condition and repaired as promised. I found the staff to be pleasant and professional and the service was very prompt and with a smile. Since my 20-year shop closed during COV I was Anxious to find a suitable replacement. Update - less than one month after I gave them 5 stars for repairing some wedge sandals they just fell COMPLETELY apart at work. I've worn them maybe 5 times since they were "repaired" at Bob's. I now see why there are so many bad reviews of this place. Terrible work. read more

I asked "did you clean them?" The kid that works there said "yes". I said "they don't look like it they're supposed to be black!" He said, "oh, thought they were brown and I cleaned them best I could". He charged me $17.50. I took him at his word and paid. He offered to try again. These shoe people ruined an $800 pair of shoes I had polished. All I did is bring them to get polished, but instead they left one shoe discolored and quite frankly they looked awful. I brought my ruined shoe, well actually both shoes, to George's shoe repair in Arden Hills. The drive may be a little far, but my shoes that were ruined by Bob's shoe repair, look new. What a joke. I've never handed someone my shoes only to get them handed back to look exactly the same. The guy had every excuse in the book of why he could not scrub a sole clean or place black polish over spots on a shoe. The ABSOLUTE WORSE shoe shop I have ever been too. What a gem! I had a shoe emergency when my dog chewed up my daughter's homecoming shoe. I stopped in a few hours before we needed it and they were so helpful! They repaired the shoe so the bite marks were not noticeable - exactly the quick fix we needed. Quick service with a smile and were so friendly! The woman I was working with spent time working on the shoe and didn't even charge me in the end! Where do you find this type of service anymore?!! I sold shoes to help pay for college, so I have quite the collection of heels that have spent too much time clunking around tile-floored mall stores and marble-floored courthouses. Every six months or so I take a giant grocery bag of heels into Bob's and come back a week later to pick up beautifully refinished shoes. They don't care if you're bringing in bargain-basement shoes or Manolos, they'll do great work on anything you bring them and even tell you when your shoes are (sniff) no longer worth saving. Update: I moved out of the area, and I found out that Bob's will do business by mail. Hooray! read more

My first experience using this location was not one I wish on anyone. I cannot speak to shoe repair but fixing purses is not one I believe this location to have the capacity to do. I worked with this location for over two months trying to give them the benefit of the doubt but still left having to go to another business. It was clear to me that communication amongst management was not happening when it came to fixing my purse. My purse had globs of visible glue on it as well as new thread that did not even match the original thread. That is unacceptable. read more

Was quoted 'around $60' for a sole and heel repair and was charged $93 when I picked them up. When I said 'Wow, I was quoted around $60' the counter person sarcastically said 'Who told you that????' Quality looks ok but be forewarned - a 50% upcharge seems to be fine with Bob's without letting you know. Told them I won't be back. Great service and fantastic quality! I have been taking my work and dress shoes here for many years and now my wife is taking her shoes and purses and bags to Bob's. Never had a problem they couldn't fix. They actually tell me if the shoes are worth repairing. New heels, new soles, repair straps, etc etc. Love them. Let's face it, paying for shoe repair is less expensive than buying new. And now they are in Wayzata's Colonial Square which is soooo much more convenient! read more

I concur with the other reviews--Bob's is great, and Bob himself is seriously awesome! The prices are more than fair. A broken hook on a pair of leather motorcycle boots is what first brought me to Bob's. The moment they looked at the problem, they had no doubt they could fix it (and offered a couple different ways they could try to fix it--one option would likely be more secure than the other, but they explained the cost difference and let me decide which route to go). Another time, I brought in a faux leather jacket of mine that got a rip in it. Bob told me he could fix it, but he recommended an easy fix I could do myself to save me money. He then offered to help me seal the repair for free if I stopped in on a Thursday night (when he stays late until 8pm). Bob is a seriously nice guy, and he's got a fantastic little business. I've sent other friends to him, and they've all been equally as satisfied with their experiences. If you have shoes or handbags that need repairing, don't think twice...pay Bob a visit! UPDATE 6.10.13: Stopped in to Bob's during lunch today to see about a repair on a pair of boots. In all of 5 minutes, they managed to fix the problem and recommend how to correct it/prevent it from happening in the future. Best part, they didn't even charge a dime!! read more

I used to have great service with Bob's until the last few times. Not sure if under new ownership but I would find a new place to take your shoes. This last pair took 8 weeks to get new soles. Called multiple times to ask about progress they said we will call you when done. Gave up and showed up to get my shoes. After a long wait they said oh, they have been done for a while. Terrible job on the new soles and no apology. Had to pay in advance so no recourse. They have seen my last pair. You don't lose customers because of a problem, you lose them based on how you handle the problem. read more

On July 10, 2919 I brought my husband's leather jacket in for a zipper repair/replacement. Today August 26, 2019 I was told after more then a dozen phone conversations that the jacket would be fixed by the luggage company that does this work for them or I requested the jacket back due to the inability to get it done in such a long period of time. It was laying unattended on the counter when I went in expecting it fixed. Needless to say I was outraged at the lack of customer service on all levels and all the lame excuses. I walked out in a huff and the extremely heavy set guy yelled at the top of his lungs " F%$# You" to me as I departed. This felt very threatening to me as a middle aged physically smaller woman. Bob's Shoe repair used to be the only place to go for quality shoe repair and I've been going there for 20 years, but not anymore. Last Spring I stopped at the store to drop off a pair of boots for repair and shine. There was 1 person in front of me which was taking quite a while so I sat down in an available chair. Just as the representative was finishing up, another customer walked in the door and he took her right away. I stood up from the chair and said I believe I was the next in line. He said, "I'll be right with you," and continued helping the new customer. Stupidly, I waited and continued to allow them to take care of my boots. However, when I picked the boots up a few days later and brought them home, I realized they only shined the bottom of the boots and not the tops. I didn't have time to deal with it, so I just finished the job myself. Now...here it is several months later. I put the boots on this morning, the 1st time this season, and the back heel just came right off. I have known Bob for years, and he is a fanastic person and businessman. Unfortunately, I believe his business is currently being run by non-caring people who are ruining his reputation. I'm done. read more

TERRIBLE SERVICE. They took almost THREE MONTHS to add new soles to my leather boots. Every time I called to check in they made me describe the shoes so they could find them (instead of just using the claim number). They seem to rely on the fact that they've been around forever but the staff couldn't care less about making a good impression or trying to obtain repeat business. I keep going back there bc it is so convenient, but always felt like the job was very average. The shoes were not looking as good as they used to from Bob's and the old friendly customer service was just not there anymore. Then i heard that Bob sold to some other folks...Ding Ding ding..the lightbulbs went off. Its a totally different place. I feel like the new folks thought it would be an easy business to carry on..after all its just shoes and leather work. How hard can that be? I have concluded they don't have "the touch" and I am going to take my shoes elsewhere...anyone know where the real Bob went? This is the most expensive shoe repair shop in the cities. My wife had new heel pads put on a pair of shoes (probably one of the easiest shoe repair jobs) and they charged $18. After she wore the shoes twice, the pads came off. read more

If I could give this shop one star, I would! Over the past 25 years we have occasionally had shoes repaired here. NEVER AGAIN! On or about October 29th I brought one my $140 pair of ECCO shoes in to have a seam on the toe re-stitched. The toe has two lines of stitching about 1/8th of an inch apart. Bob's called me on November 7th to tell me my shoe was ready to be picked it up. Upon closer examination at home I was noticed that whoever stitched the shoe did not stitch in the original holes. It looked like they didn't pay attention or try to do that. I wore them twice and then noticed that the stitching was coming out. I took the shoe back to the Bob's and they said they would redo it for no charge. In fact, the woman who waited on me said it should have been glued and stitched, which it was not. I felt confident they repair it to my satisfaction. Today (Tuesday, November 19th) I picked up the shoe again. I couldn't believe what a mess they made of it. There were two younger women working, one of whom was the stitcher. She said that was the only way she could do the repair. I realized I would get NO satisfaction from them so I walked out. The problem now is that if the stitching was redone, part of the leather would most likely not hold with all holes punched in it from the previous attempts at repair. It is very obvious that the individuals working in this shop are either untrained or have very low standards of acceptable work. Do not trust them with your leather repair work. My $140 ECCO shoes will now become my yard and garden shoes as they are trashed by the shoddy work. read more

I started working at Bob's Shoe Repair when Bob Fisher hired me knowing I am an experienced leather craftsman . What Bob did not tell me was that he was selling the store to a couple that had noe business or shoe repair knowledge or experience. When Dave and Becca Young took over they quickly disposed of all the experienced workers and replaced them with their inexperienced / slacker sons . I was laid off because Becca wanted to quit her teaching job and work at the shop __ she was not capable of adding any additional productivity (struggled to get anything right ) so they needed my salary to go to her . When Bob ran the place the quality was spotty because he over-reached beyond his capabilities and knowledge . The Youngs made that much worse I have been a saddle & tack repairman in Wayzata & Long Lake for 30 years __ until I lost my affordable shop space . When they laid me off I arranged with them for customers to drop off tack at Bob;s and I would take it -- fix it-- and return it to Bob;s where they would get a transaction fee for each job , But sometimes Bob's decided to do the work themselves ven though they hadn't the vaguest idea what was needed or required . Some of the work they passed off as mine was shoddy and others were really bad . When I tried to talk to Becca about this -- that they were hurting MY reputation -- Becca's impulsive racction was to kick me out of her store for good . I want to warn all potential saddle and tack customers to NEVER let them touch you tack or saddles --they are incompetant and do not care if they damge your gear ! As to shoe and purse repair -- read the reviews here -- the negative reviews are very familiar to this person that saw those same issues from the inside !! read more

Since we met, Bob has restored the leather on my favorite purse, put arch supports in my shoes, prepared a new pair of hiking boots to hit the ground ready-to-go, patched a hole in my father's leather jacket, restored a new shoe for a friend with a new puppy who had an appetite for about 3 square inches of leather, stretched a few pairs of my pumps in just the right places, fixed the straps on my sister's Mary Jane's as she passed through town... the list goes on... and on. To be upfront, Bob is my husband, but I do not think that clouds my opinion of the invaluable professional work he does for me! What I sincerely want you to know is that I had no idea what Bob's Shoe Repair could do for all my favorite items until three years ago. Went in on a Saturday morning, was told it was a "simple fix" and the heel on my boot would be repaired "by Wednesday," but neglected to say that he meant the following Wednesday (ie 10 days later and not 4). Went back a week after I dropped off the shoe expecting to pick it up, and the person working was pretty rude telling me it wasn't ready yet. Nice little place. Price was right to repair slippers from Cabella's (which by the way should NOT have been falling apart after 2 years). They did a nice job cleaning them also. Were ready when promised and no surprises. Thread used to sew slipper wasn't a super close match like I would have preferred, but all in all I was very pleased. I'd go back for sure. In my case, the results weren't cheap, but they were also far better than I had a right to expect. Or maybe the high price was for the three pairs of cedar shoe trees I included with purchase. First of all, I would not even give these people one star. I had brought a pair of Prada flats in to get the soles put on and they were returned to me with a slit in the leather that looked as though someone took a box cutter to them. The issue was addressed and they were replaced. Second time coming in I brought 2 pairs of suede Stuart Weitzman Nudist heels, a pair of Ash booties, and a pair of YSL patent heels. We went in to pick them up and they had glue all over them- looked like a 5 year old placed the soles on with a hot glue gun and totally trashed the leather/ suede of 3 of the heels. EXTREMELY sloppy with their work. We left one of the pairs to be fixed (Stuart Weitzman's) to get the glue taken off. A week later, I get a call from the owner (terrible customer service).. "Hello, I have your shoes on my desk", (anyone would be happy to hear they were fixed). A.) they did ABSOLUTELY nothing to fix the pair of heels B.) they were super rude C.) when we went to pick them up- they made us pay $130 for the awful job. What is hilarious is I specifically told them when I dropped them off I want the owner to do them so we don't have issues like our previous experience here, and he came back with the remark "I don't do that anymore, I have 10 workers". Hmmm, if you have sloppy workers that ruin $1,350 a pair heels, you might want to get that straightened out. Customer service is key. The customer is always right, in this case, for the SECOND time these people screwed up and I will NOT be back. If you have shoes that cost more than $20.. DO NOT GO HERE OR TRUST THESE PEOPLE. Terrible experience. I dropped off my shoes and specifically asked what the approximate total would be, because some of the shoes may not have been worth it for me to fix if the price was too high. I was quoted a price and repeated it back to the salesperson, confirming that this was the *total price* I would be charged. He said yes. A week later, my husband picked up my shoes and was charged three times the price that I was quoted. (In addition, one of the pairs had black shoe polish all over the bright blue contrast soles of the high heels that are visible when wearing.) I called Bob's Shoe Repair to find out what happened, and was told I have to speak to Bob directly but he was not available. I called for three days in a row after that, and each time Bob was unavailable. Each time I left my phone number asking to have Bob call me back, and he never did. Finally I got ahold of him four days later. I politely explained the situation. He outright accused me of lying and said his salesperson could not have told me the prices that I was told (and I am certain that this was the price I was told, as I specifically re-asked about the price just to make sure).
