Came here for dinner on a Thursday night specifically for their poutine dish for Michigan Street poutine week. Bob's Bar served tater tots with garlic herb cheese curds, house made beef gravy, green onion, and bacon bits. It was great! Felt like it was pretty much what you would want out of a poutine dish. I also got the Chicago dogs which is on their normal menu and these were tasty. I had been craving a Chicago style hot dog for a while and these hit the spot. They got all the toppings right. Especially loved the sport peppers. The basket is served with potato chips. There was some sort of alcohol rep there when we were there and he was handing out free drinks and samplings/shots of alcohol that were on the house so that was a nice surprise! Another nice thing about Bob's bar is their parking! They have a lot that is dedicated only to their customers right across Harlan Ave. Otherwise there is side street parking. Loved the vibe of this place. Kinda divey but not gross or unappealing or anything of that matter. They also have a patio/deck area in the back that looks nice but our server mentioned they don't provide service out there so you come in to order and then take your food/drinks out there. read more

Michigan Street has a concentrated area of bars including Bob's Sports Bar. My go-to is Birch Lodge across the street, but Bob's is a nice spot to mix it up, especially in warmer months as they created a pretty nice outdoor deck area in back. Nate and I stopped in last month to grab a snack and catch an MSU basketball game. It was also Super Bowl Sunday, so it was pretty busy even though it was mid-afternoon. We took a table near the door and had a good view of several TVs. The bar is pretty cozy, so it can get a little crowded. A server came over right away and took our order. I got the spicy dry rub wings and Nate ordered the buffalo chicken rangoons. The food took quite a bit of time to come out, but they were pretty busy with a couple large groups. The wings were excellent! I'd had their regular wings before, but the spicy dry rub was really flavorful with a bit of heat. I liked that it wasn't overly salty like some dry rubs I've had elsewhere. The wings themselves were crispy and juicy. The buffalo chicken rangoons were just okay. The filling was pretty sparse and they were a little tough. We'd definitely get the wings again. Note that they give a small discount if you pay in cash. Bob's Sports Bar is a low key neighborhood hangout spot to watch a game or catch up with friends. They have Keno, pull tabs, Chambongs, and daily food and drink specials. There's plenty of free street parking nearby and they have a designated parking lot across the street. read more

Great stop after shopping , well decorated and festive for Christmas it gives the right vibe to end a Day of filling Santa's sleigh. Great beer selection , friendly staff and good bar menu . Poutine Wiskey burger Wet burrito Poutine slapped. Tasted like a cheese quesadilla a chipotle queso. Really good flavor to pair with tater tots. I wish the cheese was warm, whole thing seemed like it had been sitting for a few minutes so it had that hardened lukewarm cheese feel. Still amazing though. Wet burrito was also done very well. Sauce was tasty and they seasoned the beef just right. The whiskey burger was PHENOMENAL. The burger was cooked perfectly and the bun was soft. But the sauce stole the show. I was told Bobs Bar had the best pickle pizza, and that wasn't a lie! We love Bobs Bar for drinks and the ambiance, but we had never eaten here (except maybe a hot dog or something). The pickle pizza was EVERYTHING though. The shredded pickles on it really set it above the rest. Avoid. Granted, it was Thanksgiving Day and the Lions were playing (which is why we were there). Our server brought us a round of drinks and then proceeded to sit at a table with 3 of her friends, running to get shots for them (and herself!) while we waited for our food, another round, and then our bill. Charming that her friends were using the N word. :-/ One other poor chick was running around like a chicken with their head cut off. I finally approached our server and asked if I was interrupting a lunch break because we were ready to go... she looked at me like "oh sh$t", hopped off her can and finally brought us our bill. I love heading to the Michigan street bars for a relaxed night of drinks & friends. Bob's Bar is our go to spot because of the friendly wait staff, festive lighting and age appropriate crowd. If you're looking for a "not to young/ not too old" drinking crowd, this is a great spot. As a 30 year old I always have a great time here. I love the "Chambongs" and we always order a round for our group. The Sweet Rosé bubbly goes down too easily! The drinks and shots here at Bob's are potent and of good value. It's always a fun place to celebrate old and new friends alike. The food here is decent, though nothing remarkable. I would classify it as "acceptable bar food" lots of fried items but that's to be expected. A note for vegetarians: the broccoli cheddar bites contain mini bacon bits- beware! Despite the mediocre food, I love gathering at this lively, casual spot regularly! read more

Been here several times for musical bingo. The first time I went the service was painfully slow. 45 minutes to get their burger special. Back again 2 weeks later and it took an hour to get our food! If you're running a special of burgers they should be able to crank them out. One waitress for the whole bar area is also not working! I don't get why they allow such poor service! read more

Went for poutine today since it is poutine week on Michigan St. Would have liked to have judged their version, but after waiting over 40 minutes after ordering and still no poutine, we left. Sat on the patio for 15 minutes, didn't know we needed to serve ourselves apparently? Also, when I gathered that we needed to place orders at the bar ourselves, I went there and waited right on the sticker that says "wait here", waited my turn (it was NOT busy, but there was 2 men ahead of me already ordering) when they walked away another person walked up and she immediately served him without even acknowledging my existence... I stood there for a good 5 minutes and the bar only had 2 people at it so it was not a case of not seeing me. I just left. This was 2:40pm on Saturday May 28th. Never will I return. I have to start my review with a disclaimer: I haven't been to Bob's at night in a few years. However, foursquare tells me that I have been here in the morning 28 times. This is the original morning beer bar on Michigan St for people that work 3rd shift at Butterworth. The waitstaff here, mainly Sharon on the weekdays are always welcoming, remember your drink after just a couple visits, and always smile when they see you in the morning. No judgement here, just ICE cold beer. The morning happy hour prices are good - many beers can be had for less than $2. The selection runs from swill, to corporate swill disguised as craft beer, to a few local brews like Bell's and Founder's. I haven't dug too deep into the beer cooler to see what imports they have, but I have seen others order some stouts or a Boddington's here and there. The food is bar food, but done good. There is a pretty vast menu for the morning, pretty much anything on the regular menu is available at 7:30 am. My gang sticks to pizza, nachos, and breakfast sandwiches, with the occasional order of mini-corn dogs or fries. There is Keno, pool, video games, a juke box, and lots of TVs. The morning TV ritual is the Today Show, GMA, The Weather Channel, and ESPN. I am not sure how it is for watching a game, there isn't a lot of that in the morning in these parts. Just came in. Went to the bar to be served and was told to have a seat very rudely by bartender. We were told staff would be with us momentarily. We waited 10 minutes and noticed 1/2 of the servers sitting at a table. They stared at us so we ended up getting up and doing to dukes across the street. Do better. read more

Chat with customers, do her hair, do liquor inventory. I finally had to go up to the bar and ask if I could order. When my food finally came out, I waited to see if she would notice that I had no silverware or napkins. She didn't. I finally got up and got my own. I have hustled many a game of Peter Jacobson's Golden Tee Golf in this joint. Drinks are cheap, they usually have at least one decent beer on tap, nudie Photo Hunt, greasy bar food, and an internet juke box with the "Play my selection first" option. Which always calls for the interruption of the usual "Bye Bye Miss American Pie" with the live version of "Cop Shoot Cop" by Spiritualized from the Live at Royal Albert Hall album. Yes, that's right, a 19 minute Spiritualized song with the last nine minutes being only screaming loud fuzzy guitar noise. Bob's! Bobby! Robert! This is one of the best dive sports bars in GR. Hell, it's one of the best dive sports bars in the West Michigan. Here's why: Beers range from $2.50 - $3.50. That's right, you can chug bottles of Quality beer for 10 quarters each. Free hot dogs on game days. That is no small deal in my book, where nothing is free but the line to the men's room. Either gangster rap or classic rock is always blaring from the jukebox that a bunch of old-timey regulars have stacked with their tunes. Duct taped corners and stools make Bob's feel like home -- home being that truck stop you once puked all over on i96 one summer. **Words of advice: One pool table closely situated by drinking tables. You might get a pool stick to the head or a Q-ball ball to the nuts. NO young professional douchebags with cheesy suits or popped collars and skin tight V-necks. Great service and decor. A small local spot with great drink specials, huge 22 oz. beers and great big glasses for cocktails. First time here from out of town, but everyone was a local but friendly, cordial and down to earth. Food service fast and delicious. Highly recommend. Bartenders were on their 'A' game. read more

It's the best "dive bar" in Grand Rapids. I put the term in quotes because the Chicago dog special is actually the best hot dog experience in the region, and the burger is also fresh and high quality. Bob's Sportsball Bar always has pretty good specials posted outside and I really like their pizza. The staff leaves a lot to be desired. My wife and I have given the place multiple tries and our last experience was the final straw. We were greeted promptly and politely by one of the bartenders (first time that has ever happened). She took our order and entered it, but apparently did not inform our morose server, who sauntered over 15 minutes later to see if we had been helped yet. We told her that the bartender took our order and that we were still waiting on our beers. With that information she went to go find our drinks. A short bit later she returned with them and that was the last we saw of her until after our food came out. Another server brought out our food and asked if we needed anything else at the moment. We said we were OK for now. Soon after our server returned to ask the same. We said we were OK for now. This apparently meant OK forever as no one returned to our table again even after we had finished our meal and drinks then waited another 10-15 minutes. From what I could tell, there was a shift change and our server just left. She did not pass us off to a new server. She did not ask us to close out. Just. Left. I finally walked up to the bar and asked if i could close my tab. The bartender, rather venomously, replied, "Uh, I just got here so I have no idea where you were sitting." Invigorating yarn chum, but she could have just asked instead of stacking on a bit more unpleasantness to my experience. I read my table number off the chart behind the bar to her, got our check, left a more than fair tip (which I kind of regret), and vowed to never return. Every experience I have had at this place has left a bad taste in my mouth. I see quite a few reviews refer to the 'great service' and I can only assume these were created by regulars who get special treatment over the normal inattentive rudeness I have experienced every time i have been to Bob's Sportsball Bar. read more
