I went here for the first time in 2026 after constantly hearing good things about this place. I was really surprised at how extravagantly themed the restaurant is. The theming is truly off the charts with so many cool things everywhere you look. I've been in both the lower and upper floors of the restaurant and the fun follows all throughout. The food was good and had good portion sizes. The menu has a lot of Hawaiian and Asian flavors represented. The drink menu is massive with a great section of NA mocktails that were really fairly priced. We got drinks and entrees and the entire process took around 45 minutes with me struggling to decide what to order. The service is really attentive without being overbearing. The use of both servers and food runners allowed for the process to be quick while not feeling rushed at all. Our server also gave great recommendations and was helpful throughout the night. While the price of things may feel high, I do think the ambiance was pretty worth the cost and the food was enjoyable! I'd definitely come back. read more

Dont get it if you love ramen or are expecting Hawaiian simen. It's more like noodles in a peanut sauce. Not broth. It's really thick. The kimchi.... Probably the worst I've ever had. To start with this place lost a star in it review right from the start. I made a reservation for one almost 2 months ahead of time. I get their and they tell me they have ne at the bar. Literally WTF. Nobody majes a reservation to sit at the bar! I said no and it took like 5 minutes for them to find a high top and I said fine. Wellturns out the hightop was in the bar area and served by the bartenders. So joke is on me. A reservation is for a table with a waiter or waitress, so minus the star. The atmosphere feels like Easter Island meets Hawaii. It is a fun and enjoyable place to enjoy a meal. I ordered their Crab Rangoons ($18). These have jumbo lump crab and cream cheese filling, crispy wonton, furikake, green onion, lemongrass chili sauce. I had heard these were the best Crab Rangoons around. These very well may be. They were excellent and you can definitely taste the real crab in them. They are also very full of the filling, not just a dab. The chili sauce could use a little work, but still good. For my meal I ordered Max's Loco Moco ($29). This has jasmine rice topped with a wagyu beef patty, IPA braised beef, brown gravy, carrot, cabbage, peppers, onions, tomato, a fried egg, and chimichurri. This was also excellent. The beef patty was high quality and tasty and it all worked together to perfection. I got a Mocktail to go with it called a Cinnamon Splash ($7). This was grapefruit and cinnamon with a splash of tonic. I hated this. I won't rate on this though because I think I just don't like grapefruit juice, so that's on me. The service was a mixed bag that primarily goes with being placed in the bar area. Everyone was super friendly, just not efficient. The bartenders were so busy that service was very sliw and chaotic. Table service is probably much better, hopefully. Overall a 3 star review! Would I return? Maybe. The food is definitely worth a visit, management and service was a definite no. Also the bar area had open seats the entire time, and another hightop was open most the time so they didn't do me any favors. There are definitely better choices with better service in the area. However the environment in addition to the food do offset the negatives. They need to fix their reservation system and I would return? Prices are fair overall I thought. read more

Had such a great time at Max's with my friend yesterday! We stopped in for Aloha Hour and had a really good time. The drinks were great, but the service was even better because our host was so attentive and had the best recommendations. It was also my friend's birthday, so we got a complimentary dessert to share and got to roast our own marshmallows over an open fire, which was such a fun touch. Dang, this place is too cool! A huge Tiki Bar/ Restaurant that's fully decked out! They said to have the largest Tiki collection in the US, I think!? Loved that they had individual "rooms" set up where you could enjoy a drink or eat, more privacy and it's just cool! This place was a real letdown. While the bartender was friendly, they seemed a bit disinterested, which took away from the overall experience. The cocktails looked beautiful, but unfortunately they didn't taste nearly as good as they looked. The menu offered a decent variety, but the food was underwhelming. The portion sizes were either very large or very small, with not much in between. I ordered the jerk chicken, and it didn't have the bold, smoky jerk flavor I was expecting. Instead, it tasted like it had simply been coated with an excessive amount of seasoning. The cucumber salad that came with it, however, was fresh and delicious. The elotes were unlike any I've had before. They seemed to include bell peppers and possibly lettuce, but the restaurant was so dark that I literally had to use my phone's flashlight to try to figure out what was in the dish. The texture wasn't my favorite, and the serving was much larger than what I'd expect for a side. One final odd detail was the restrooms, which are located down a stairwell. It felt a little eerie--though I admit I may have watched one too many scary movies! Overall, this just wasn't a place I'd return to. While the ambiance was super cool and our waitress was extremely enthusiastic - the food we tried left much to be desired. The chicken waffle fusion dish just tastes....odd. It almost had a chocolately flavor to the sauce, which combine with being spicy was unappetizing and just too much. I was hoping the ceviche would be better but it came out with 1 inch cubes of mahi mahi which were just too large. Not the same as the smaller chopped ceviche that's more traditional. The shrimp were fine but the fish would've been much better if it was smaller and if they included more variety of seafood like scallop. Overwhelmingly limey tasting and I wish there was some cilantro. Our friends dishes seemed much better (the Asian ground pork dish and the moco loco) and they said they enjoyed their drinks. Here is another restaurant that's been around for a while that we're just getting to. We were dining with friends who suggested Max's South Seas Hideaway. As we had never been there, we were happy with the choice. We had reservations on a busy Friday night and were promptly seated. I did not realize there were two floors to this restaurant. Our table was upstairs and my wife was recovering from meniscus surgery so stairs were out of the question. We were happy to see they had an elevator in the rear. Were were able to easily access or table this way. Restaurant is decorated tiki style with several bars and amazing decorations. We were able to walk through most of the restaurant gawking at the amazing decor. First, the drink menu was amazing. Having had our fill of alcohol prior to arriving we didn't order anything other than soda but look forward to properly preparing for out next visit. The food menu is just as appealing. There were also a few specials. Our friends ordered drunken noodles with chicken, my wife had the tostada special and I ordered the tiki tacos. Both my wife's dish and mine had pulled pork but both were uniquely flavored and were outstanding. I kept saying, "how could we not have known about this place"? For dessert, we ordered the s'mores. This was quite an experience as you prepare them at your table. We were provided with homemade marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers. We were also given stiff sticks for the marshmallows as the ones normally provided were difficult to handle while cooking them. The s'mores were delicious. If I have any complaints, there we're five marshmallows and five graham crackers meaning your s'more was basically open faced. Kind of chintzy I thought. I asked if it's possible to get more crackers. Our server said, "Sure with an uncharge". Happy hours at Max's look like fun as well with a reduced price drink menu and appetizers. Came here on a cousin date, got the scorpion bowl to share and the zombie. The zombie is SUPER strong!!! We ended up dumping it into our bowl to share because the sips were barely making a dent, so we had to use the big straws to make it through. We got the pupu platter and locomoco to share, as well as a side of broccolini. Our favorite was the locomoco. The sauce was on the thicker side, like a light gravy, and it mixed so well with the rice. We sat upstairs and loved the vibe. It was a little bit lighter and felt more casual. This place is definitely drink forward - they have a huge printed out menu for drinks, but the food menu appears to be digital only. I had not visited Max's in a couple of years, and I'm happy to say its strengths are still standing: the theming and decor are charming, the drink menu is extensive and diverse, and it feels like a unique experience. Service has always been good and attentive, even when busy. What disappointed me this time around was the food quality and pricing. I know costs have gone up pretty much everywhere, but you pretty much can't get a dish here under $25, and the sandwiches/burgers are all around $18.
