I tried reaching out via email and private message in regards to my recent dining experience at Rogue River Tavern but have not received a response. I called to discuss with management this morning but feel like our conversation fell short of understanding or resolution. I would like to note that I have never left a bad review and have certainly never reached out to contact owners, managers or staff of any establishment but feel this matter needs attention. Please allow me to explain. Last night 4/9, my sisters, grandmothers & I went to a performance at Devos in GR. After the show we researched and discussed options of where we could eat at that time of night. We had several options but my sister mentioned the great food at the Tavern. Your website advertised family friendly late night dining. We called from the parking garage to confirm Kitchen hours and were told 11:30pm so we headed that way, arriving 10:30-10:40. One of our grandmothers is blind and 89 years old so we helped her up the steps and led her to a low table in the back. Our waitress took our drink orders and when we asked for menus she said that she did not know if we could still order food and checked her watch. We mentioned that we called ahead and they said the kitchen would be open until 11:30. She returned to the table with menus and let us know that we could only order from the appetizer menu of fried food at that time of night (no problem) we are not difficult customers. We ordered 8+ appetizers for our table of 5. Our waitress checked her watch consistently throughout our time there. We appreciated the quality of the food and willingness to accommodate us at a clearly inconvenient time of night for trying to catch a bite. Half way through our meal a song played that would make even the most vulgar squirm if they were at dinner with their grandmothers. It would have been horrible in any situation but we tried to carry on conversation to distract from what was happening. I ended up waiting it out on the bathroom to get away from the entire situation. My sister (27) said that it was the most uncomfortable moment of her life and a night we certainly won't forget. I did not see a jukebox and at the time thought it must have been an employee trying to run us off as there's no possible way it would be on a Playlist. The next day I still felt that the situation was totally unacceptable as we could have visited a number of other restaurants between Grand Rapids and Midland. The majority of us from Montcalm Co. So I called to speak with management. She explained that it must have been a customer playing from the jukebox and that there is no way for staff or management to control what customers can play on the jukebox. She said that she has also been surprised by a few of the selections so I mentioned the specific song, a version of my neck my back (the most sexually explicit song possible). I find it hard to believe that there is no way to override the system or simply change the song. Are you telling me that a smartass 14 year old boy could play this song on a weekday afternoon while he's there with family and there's nothing you can do about it? I find that very hard to believe. She reiterated that there is no way to control it and hoped for a better experience next time. She did say that if I called back with waitress information she could address the service we experienced. Is this possible that there's nothing staff, management or owner can do to prevent or stop such a thing? Would you enjoy a dinner with your family with a slowed down version of this song playing louder than conversation can overpower? read more

The food here is amazing and they have a great variety. The drinks are also very good. The wait staff is friendly and always smiling.

Little hometown place. Nice crowd and good atmosphere. Service was good but slow. Food was hit or miss. Taco salad was super bland. Don't get it. Wet burrito was really good. Gyro was good but hardly any meat and too much sauce! Appetizer sampler with mushrooms, pickles and cheese curds was so small we joked about it. Only the cheese curds were good. read more

This has got to be the best all around bar and restaurant in the Rockford area. The place is huge so you never wait for a seat but also the service and food time are that of a smaller resultant. Popcorn is always hot fresh and free. Everyone is super friendly and it's like Cheers in the burbs. The menu is extensive but everything I have tried has been delicious and big portion sizes. I just moved to Rockford and have been here more times than I can count. Everytime I've been in I've had super friendly service and good food. It's the perfect Michigan bar with keno and popcorn. The menu has a good variety and plenty of drinks to choose from too. I've enjoyed the wet burrito, salmon wrap and turkey club sandwich prices are reasonable. My sister lives in Rockford and this gem is walking distance from her place. Tuesday night was packed and our service was exceptional. I ordered my favorite Mexican meal the wet burrito. It was amazing. It comes with refried beans that were spot on. The margaritas were especially delicious They also had music which made the experience even better. read more

I wasn't impressed. It was open, I found it loud and hard to socialize. They were busy on a Thursday evening, does down and starting to pick up again. The waitress was friendly and accommodating to my drink order (I really hate, margarita glasses), the margarita was also very sour too. We had plenty of time to make decisions. We placed orders. Then the waitress was MIA for quite sometime. She did come back after about 30 minutes stating out food was coming. About 45 minutes we had our food. I had the fish tacos with a spicy jalapeño ranch (it really wasn't very spicy). The tacos were pretty good, except I thought the slaw had a little too much vinegar. Overall, I don't think I would meet up here again. It might be okay if you sat at the bar. read more

We were initially disappointed with the "Seat Yourself" on a Saturday night, but we got a table fairly quickly. The staff is exceptionally friendly and and professional. We really enjoyed our waitress. If you're hungry, don't order the burger or southwest chicken salad. The burgers are less than optimal and the salad is very small. Flavorful, but small. We stopped in for a Sunday night dinner and everything was just right. The service was spot on, and we didn't have to wait long at all. The food arrived quickly and was just right. I had the patty melt and it was cooked just right and the fries were crispy. My wife had a salad and it was fresh and everything was just right. Everything was great and we will be back. read more

I visited on 1/1/22....nice place in general however the food quality and quantity for the price was poor. I ordered lake perch and was provided very small five pieces of fish with a small side of Mac N Cheese. I feel like I had more tarter sauce than fish. The price was nearly $18! I had to stop at Mc Donald's after because I was still hungry. Additionally my wife ordered the appetizer starters. The fried food was very dark showing that the e fryer oil used was old. This made for low quality burnt tasting food. Additionally when I glanced in the open kitchen door on the way to the bathroom I saw a large bag of mean in a tub on the floor in the middle of the kitchen. This can't be health code standard. I likely will not visit them again. I almost asked for a refund. read more

The new remodel is great! Open space with plenty of tables and great ambiance. There was no wait and the service was fairly quick. They offer free popcorn for your table. Apparently there's karaoke and trivia, but we left before any of that started up. Food: The fried pickles were amazing, some of the best I've ever come across. The rest of our dinner (wet tostado, chicken strips, a sandwich, and a burger) was also good, better than average bar food. The drinks were a generous pour and were cheap during happy hour. I stopped in here last week for dinner and drinks with my girlfriends. When arriving the space was pretty crowded and boisterous, We were seated pretty quickly for a Saturday, which was pretty great since we were all very hungry. We all ordered pretty much immediately because we were told the food would take at least a half hour or more, which was correct and we appreciated the honesty. While waiting for our food we munched in the self serve popcorn with was buttery and tasty! My friends got some house cocktails and stuck with water. The cocktails were alright. They were very heavily sweet and juicy. I didn't end up ordering a drink because their craft beer list was very minimal, which surprised me for a place that is called a tavern. We shared a sample appetizer platter and it was filled with fried food goodness. The group favorite was definitely the potato skins and broccoli cheese bites. We also all ordered entrees and were all very pleased with our food. I got the taco salad which was deceivingly large and filling! Our server was pretty attentive for how busy it was as well. I really enjoyed this tavern! I forget what drink I had but it was strong and gave just the right amount of kick to it! I am kinda a lightweight so when I have a drink, it doesn't take me long to get toasty, hehe!! They had a nice atmosphere, sports tv and a place to get lotto! It was really a fun night and I was kinda having a down day so it was nice to have someplace in walking distance I could go and get a quick drink! Just what a girl needs sometimes! Terrrrrrible. I was with a party of 15 or so for a 60th birthday party and someone ordered lemon drop shots and they brought out straight vodka shots. After taking them we realized it was straight vodka and so we mentioned that they messed up the order and they said someone forgot to bring out the lemon and sugar. Apparently we are supposed to make our own shot and pour in the lemon and sugar packet when the vodka was already full to the top. How do you add lemon when there's no room? The manager said you're supposed to DIY she didn't even discount for the mistake. Directors for the bar: Combine vodka and lemon juice in a shot glass. Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon sugar on top. Wow....I used to like that I could go to the Tavern and get dependably decent bar food; then last night happened. 25 minutes for an app that was way over fried, 30 minutes for a friend's to show up. 20 minutes for a beer to be dropped off. After I gave up on the deep fried broccoli bites with fake cheeze in them, I figured basic tacos---kinda hard to mess up, right? The ground "beef" tasted like wet sawdust. And to top it all off? I ate three bites of the plate of three tacos and pushed them to the side. When I got the check, my waitress said she had talked to her manager about taking it off my bill, but he said No, stating that they only did that for certain menu items. WHO DOES THAT? With a few options in downtown Rockford, I don't think Rogue Tavern should be your first choice....or your fourth. It won't likely be mine. read more

The Rogue is a staple of downtown Rockford. They recently remodeled the interior which really opened up the space. They offer free popcorn, a diverse menu selection and fast-friendly service. The green bean fries are an excellent way to start your meal. I most recently had the wet burrito. It was very tasty and satisfied my hunger. Parking can be a little tricky sometimes, but we always find a time parking spot. read more

Our friend who has food allergies ordered a sandwich and was brought out the wrong one, which was fine. Then they brought him the sandwich he ordered but then had mold on his chips. Asked to speak with the manager and he was very confrontational. At first they were going to make us pay for the moldy chips and sandwich but then they finally took it off.
