I have so many things to say about Bodega. First let me say I love tasting all types and styles of food. I understand different regions may cook the same dish or meal differently but Bodega really through me off. Being that I'm born and bred in Miami I know Cuban food. Were spoiled here in Miami and I love it. So when going to Tampa and hearing that the cuban sandwich originated from here we had to try one from any Cuban restaurant they have. We came here because we were told it was popular and delicious. I disagree. Now dont get me wrong maybe we should've known better from the modern and bright style, the music played and no sight of any abuelita but hey sometimes places can really surprise you for the better. To start off we saw a line outside and thought that was the norm, you know the people outside are usually getting some coffee or croquettas or something delicious so we sat at a table and waited and waited and waited. We saw people coming out of the kitchen with plates yelling peoples names and giving it to the customer be they at a tableor standing waiting. We finally asked one of the staff what is the normal ordering process since we were tourists. It was then we were told that line outside is for ordering. So were finally given menus, made our choices, stood in that damn line and ordered. Now quickly on the menu I noticed they had guarapo (sugarcane juice) so I ordered 2 and a lechon and cuban sandwich. My sister in law ordered a frita that was differently made from the norm but still sounded good. What we got were decent sandwiches but they lacked some seasoning or some Cuban love. Now I'm not saying it was bad but just not what I was use to. The sandwiches looked appealing and they did not go cheap on the meat stuffing but they didnt use the regular meat or ham I was used to for the Cuban sandwich but it was okay. Lechon sandwich was good but again flavor just not what I'm use to. When we received the guarapo juice it was my fault for not reading their version of it because they add like a seltzer water to it. Why in God's name would you do that?!?! That's not guarapo juice, call it something else but never again in my life will I ever buy this montrosity that was $13 each WTF.... Now the frita was actually good and they make it spicy but they put 2 types of meat and chorizo and they added cucumbers..not what im ise to but I did enjoy the piece that was shared. Over all the place is happening, very clean, and the frita is decent if you waslmt what I would call an exotic frita...but I'll stick to my Miami Cuban food. read more

I only come to bodega for the Cuban sandwiches. I had not been since the bodega Tampa location closed. I am happy to say that their Cuban sandwich is just as delicious as I remember having it. Consistency in a restaurant is KEY. My husband and I definitely enjoyed our lunch! TIP: get spicy Mayo on the side and dip your Cuban in it. So so good!!! read more

Having been raised in Miami and in a Cuban household, I had to go check the hype out with this place. Let me just say... WOW. Most certainly one of the best Cuban sandwiches I've ever had. Jam packed with flavor, meat, and happiness. As I ate this, I was doing my happy food dance. There's just no denying it. It was one of those typical HOT Florida days and I got their hibiscus soda to cool down and it was so delicious and refreshing. I ended the meal with a colada and was not disappointed! Come for the Cuban sandwich and Cuban coffee. I love this place and of course here for the food but have to say the service is hit or miss. The last time visited we came early (4:30 pm) before a Rays game and were the only two people inside sitting at the counter. It seems it took a whole 15 minutes just to be acknowledged (not even greeted) and we had to ask for menus. Drink order took another 15 minutes (an iced tea and a soda) and when our food finally arrived (we ordered the Cuban and a big salad), it took another 10 minutes to receive silverware and a napkin. Service on that day had no excuse why they ignored paying customers sitting right in front of you. Thank goodness we were purposely very early for a Rays game and not delayed but dinner as the only 2 customers in a restaurant (there were 4 outside but around 8 when we were leaving) shouldn't take over an hour and a half for a sandwich and a salad. I'm just loving the new location; although I don't know when the relocation was done (but they are in same building but now at the other end and the new location is much better). The newer location has a large inside space with tables and a bar counter that looks like those old diners. They still have a take out window outside of the main doors but because of COVID they are only taking orders from the take-out window but you can take your food and sit inside the dining room. I think the counter is serving with the counter waitresses. The coffees are still AH-mazing and my hubby loves their smoothies still. But the best part is my food, lechon sandwich... OMG. The season was unreal and I rarely enjoy pork sandwiches but I remember our last visit when my husband had one and I couldn't wait to come back and get my own. read more

Is it just me or does every bodega have a ton of reviews lol. The one in LA has 18k reviews or something crazy. Anyway, amazing service here and a beyond simple menu. I think the menu was like 15 items or less on the whole thing. The inside seating area is spacious and a straight vibe, but I always prefer eating outside especially when the weather is nice. The meats inside of my Cuban sandwich were flavorful and moist, and bread was perfectly crispy and toasted. The only minor complaint I have with the Cuban is where was the mayo and mustard?? The food itself was very good I had a Cuban sandwich my husband had a Cuban vegetarian plate that included Tempeh, Black beans and plantains. Everything was very fresh and delicious. My Cuban was huge - too much for one person, really. So big portions for sure!! I love that they also have fresh juices, smoothies, wheat grass shots. We shared a pastelitos, which was just ok - didn't exactly rival the ones we've had in Miami, but it was descent. Where things went off the rails for me was the service. We're almost at the end of Covid so people have had lots of time to pivot - but the ordering process is a very chaotic and confusing mess. It took about 10 minutes to figure out what to do after I asked another customer. The guy at the outdoor ordering window had a bit of an attitude which didn't help. When your order is ready a soft-spoken girl with a heavy accent tries to whisper your name over the loud din inside while walking around with your food. to no avail. Which basically means it takes you a good 5 - 10 minutes to actually get your food once it's ready by the time you figure out the order is for you. I keep going back to Bodega and expecting slash hoping for a 5 star experience and it just never quite happens. I love the vibes. Even the shiny new location is poppin and feels mega cool. For me the food is just meh. Cuban sandwiches are a sensy topic. So I won't even say it's not my favorite Cuban. Because beyond that I find all the food to be just good. The chicken sandwich is a great example! It sounds amazing: citrus, cilantro, mustard, chilis, and then you get it and you're like oh okay. It's a fun spot, the prices are a huge relief especially as you start getting closer to downtown on Central. The location is amazing. And so I will be there again and I would say you could should go too! If you are going to get a sandwich I recommend the Cuban over anything else. read more

My friends were insistent that we must visit Bodega for lunch while in St. Pete. It's a little stand with some seating, but it's mostly a takeaway operation. They offer a selection of sandwiches, plates, coffees, and homemade sodas for purchase. There's also a Yelp check in for a free cortado, but I didn't notice it until after I ordered. I went with the Cuban sandwich based off hype. I kept hearing it was amazing and the item to try. So glad I fed into the hype -- because it was a glorious sandwich! It took me forever to eat, as it's huge (I'd recommend sharing it), but every ingredient seemed to be prepared with love. Such a top quality sandwich. The wait, however, wasn't ideal. It was March, but it was hot. There was some shade, but it didn't really help much. Some friends seemed to be forgotten about also, as they didn't receive their food until much later and only after they asked about it. So be prepared for a queue. It's a popular spot. I'd definitely stop back sometime if I'm in the area again -- but I'd split the sandwich next time for sure. read more

This is somewhat of a causal place where you order and pay at the window, but a server will bring it to you at the table. However, it's a chic ambiance versus a fast food place. Parking can be a challenge during peek times of course, but worth it- keep driving or park in the pay lot next door. I usually order the award-winning Cuban and a cafe con leche, this time I switched it up and ordered a salad with grilled chicken, mango and pineapple - it was so delicious! I am not a fan of dressing, but this dressing was so refreshing - you may want to ask for two of the small cups. One wasn't enough for me or my friend! They were kind enough to give us a second one. Yearning for the Old Days This was our first visit to their new location and we ate inside at the counter. In the past we've always had sandwiches. Now, at dinner, we went for a bigger meal. We started with a couple of cocktails. The Paloma was fine, but a little heavy on the club soda. The Gimlet was not so good. Gimlets are typically served straight up and don't have club soda in them. This was served over ice and had a bunch of club soda which watered down the drink. I should have complained, but the server seemed to be a bit out of it and had trouble remembering anything that we said. Service was pretty spotty throughout our meal. We had a chopped Romaine salad with chicken. It was quite large and pretty good. But only the lettuce was chopped. Everything else was very large and hard to eat. We got a second plate so that we could put half of the salad on it and manage to cut up the salad without it pouring over the edge. We also got the Lechon Plato. Again, the serving was large and it was all pretty good. I had to cut off a fair bit of fat. The rice was good and the Jicama slaw was OK, but a little bland. We had a couple of café con leches after the meal. I felt like they were very overpriced at $6.00 for a small cup. Speaking of prices, the menu posted on their own website is significantly out of date. The price for the café con leche on the website is only $2.75. I can understand if the price is 10-20% off. But the actual price was over 100% higher. Most other menu items were about 40% higher than on the website. I get the general sense that owner/managers are on coast here. My next visit will be for a Cuban sandwich, and I'll eat it outside. Forget the rest. read more

There's a reason for the constant line of people waiting to order food at the Bodega. They serve tasty Cuban food at excellent prices and the staff is always friendly. We shared a pork (lechon) sandwich and tried the homemade hibiscus soda. The pork sandwich had great flavor - next time I'll get the plato, which comes with black beans & rice and fried plantains. The soda was delicious: tasted fruity & lightly sweetened. This was our first time eating in the new location (two doors to the West of their former location on Central). The new building is quite spacious inside and has quite a bit of seating available with the covid spacing restrictions. We sat at the curvy bar with its retro countertops & stools. Muy Bien! Love Bodega. The cubano is delicioso! Love the new space and the vibe is inviting with a local Latin feel. Located in the heart of St Pete, there's still a walk up order window and a line down the sidewalk even with covid. After ordering you can choose indoor or outdoor seating. It was a nice Saturday afternoon with the doors to the restaurant wide open so even sitting inside didn't feel isolated. It felt like one big warm hug. NOTE: Don't forget your Yelp check in for a free cuban coffee. Not much I can say about the cubano except for, get it! I hear the Lechon is pretty legit which is the pork sandwich and after tasting the pork on the Cuban I can 100% see that. Black Beans and Rice had an unfamiliar spice to them but I'm not complaining. Maduros cooked to perfection. The pollo platos, the chicken was a little dry however, and I could not taste the coconut that was in the description. The coke is described as Mexican coke but came in a bottle and tasted the same to me. There was a cute little juice bar that I can't wait to come back and try. Everything looked and sounded amazing. Totally fun local Cuban restaurant in a trendy part of town. We were visiting the area and some friends brought us here for lunch. We were a bit after the main rush so had no problem finding a spot to sit in the small space with dramatically pared back seating due to COVID. As they were taking lots of precautions, we had to order at the window facing the street. The food didn't take too long and they called out to us when it was ready.
