If you are below the age of 25 don't go here. I'm 21 and I left looking 10 years older in a horrible way. I went here partly because I saw all the good reviews but frankly my cut is nothing to brag about. My layers aren't even around my entire head of hair. i asked him to take the weight off but to keep most of the length and he pretty much just hacked it off. The blowout was poofy and just plain bad. The salon itself was boring looking. However the service was good. The lady at the front desk who also washed my hair was awesome and super friendly. The price convinced me to try Bodhi Salon but there is nothing special about this place. I wish I would've just spent an extra 30 to get my hair done right. Lesson learned! read more

I can't believe it's taken me this long to write a review for Bodhi. I've been going to them since 2006 after all. Jean Marc is the best! I moved to the Upper West Side a year ago, and I still travel all the way back to Bay Ridge (it can take an hour sometimes) just to get my haircut by JM. He's so laid back and always listens to what I want. And the whole experience is just fun. Everyone who works here is great, even Enzo the adorable 4-legged greeter. The biggest compliment I got was last week when I was about to go on the air (I do TV appearances), and the hair and makeup people wanted to know who cut my hair. When I said I go out all the way out to Brooklyn, they said, and I quote: "Keep going out there. It's worth it. You have a great cut." Does it get better than that? No way. read more

I went to Bodhi yesterday for the first time. I was very impressed at the start. Marc is amazing! I got a horrendous hair cut last June from another Bay Ridge salon and it's taken a long time for it to grow out. I went to Marc (based on the yelp reviews) and I am so very pleased that I did. He fixed my hair and recommended some wonderful products also. The cut he gave is amazing! He took time doing a color consultation for me and helped me understand the process that I need to go through to get my hair the way I want it to be. He was also extremely pleasant to talk with while he was cutting my hair. Some major high points: * I didn't have to wait for my appointment. They took me on time. * Everyone is pleasant, from Kristin who washed my hair, to the woman (didn't catch her name! - but I will next time) who checked me out at the end of my visit. * Marc knows his hair stuff!! * For a very nice salon, the prices are reasonable, especially for Bay Ridge. I've been going to Bodhi for about a year now to get my hair cut. I'm a low-frills person and I've never gone regularly to a salon before. I'm so happy that I decided to try this salon out! Jean Marc is talented, good humored, and kind. He's done a fantastic job on my hair and also recommended some products for me (which I now use and love) without being pushy. I got my hair colored there for the first time today and loved Adeline. She is a no-nonsense professional but also very personable and warm. I asked for a natural look and she delivered. I also have to give a shout out to Gabriel who has washed my hair a few times now. Oh my god. Maybe this sounds silly but the scalp massage he does while washing my hair is worth the trip! I love you Bodhi Salon! I have been going here for 4 years. I have never cheated on them, always stayed faithful as Jean-Marc and Adeline are my favorite. I had my hair cut and colored 2-3 weeks ago and those first 2 days after I had it done, I swear 30 people complimented on it. If you have short hair know that Jean-Marc can do amazing things for you, I have been to many salons prior, in the city (I'm not naming any names), that were not as skilled and never made me look as good as Bodhi Salon does. They will always do what makes you look good. They listen to what you want and follow through EVERYTIME! Why else would I have been coming here for years?!?! Adeline really knows her color (I mean REALLY knows it) Jean-Marc is an artist, he has so many tools and uses all of them. Him and Adeline also know what products are best to use, best to mix together, etc They're always up to date and informative. Enzo, their Australian Shepherd, he's the sweetest, you'll want to take him home with you, I do every time I visit. The ownership here is rediculous. I've given them business over the last few years.. $68 for a TRIM PLUS TIP to both my stylist and the person who washes my hair, comes to $85 most times. Unreal. I came when I was preggo and they wouldn't let me leave without getting a blow dry and I was super hot. That was the first mishap. I let it go. Now I have a baby and want to bring him in because I have no one to watch him and they said its best if you get a sitter. What happened to a neighborhood place. I'll never be back. I have been going to Bodhi for about five years. Adeline does wonderful blond highlights. She takes the time at the start of each appointment to listen to my hair needs and any issues or comments. Being blond is tough on the hair and my hair texture has changed over the years. Adeline has worked with me to change my color to a non drying formula. She also recommends new and improved conditioning treatments she knows I'll benefit from without overselling me on multiple treatments. Jean Marc is a great stylist and perfectionist. He also listens to the type of cut I am looking for and executes it perfectly. The salon is clean and comfortable with friendly staff. I went to bodhi for a brazilian keratin treatment. I was incredibly nervous at first but the results were way better than I anticipated. It was 7 months before my hair was frizzy. At the appointment they said it wold last 3-4 months, so 7 months was a great surprise. The brazilian truly gives you wash and wear hair. I am going to get my second one in a few months and I literally cannot wait. Jean Marc did the brazilian and it was amazing. I only gave four stars because the highlights I got before hand (done by Maya) weren't the best I've had. They didn't go all the way to my scalp and they were uneven. All in all though, it was a positive experience. I am not so much a dog person though. But Maya did go outside and fill my meter. I thought that was really nice. read more

I was looking for a new salon to give me a more professional, chic look. Based on the great reviews I saw for Bodhi, I decided to give them a try. Marc cut my hair - it was PERFECT. It was exactly what I wanted. I showed him the picture, and he went from there. Him and Kristen (who washed my hair) gave me tips on how to keep my hair healthy and maintain the cut. It was just a very pleasant experience from start to finish - they had an array of very recent magazines (although I had no time to sit and read, as they took me right away!) and there's the sweetest, most gorgeous Australian sheepdog that roams the premises. I can say without exaggeration that this is the best haircut I've ever gotten. I hate haircuts that look great in the salon and then look like crap when I'm running late and don't fuss with it (which is more often than not). I always request "easygoing" cuts but rarely get them. At Bodhi, the owner listened to what I was saying, and gave me a cut that looks great whether I fuss or not. And it still looks good a few months later, which is also rare. Perfect! On top of the good skills, he's a very nice guy and the salon has a great low-key vibe. I love the staff here and they do a fantastic job on my hair! Both Adeline and Jean-Marc are the friendliest people and are perfectionists when it comes to hair. I've been coming here for a few months now and am very happy with this salon. At my first appointment, Adeline told me how much she hated my hair color. That may be off putting to some, but I was charmed. It was pretty black. We got very daring and did a color correction that came out beautifully, much to both of our relief, and she has been slowly lightening the color as my hair grows out. So far booking with Adaline was like pulling teeth. I hope my cut with Marc is better. They require a credit card to secure the appointment, and require a 24 hour notice which still applies if you made the appointment for less than 24 hours in advance. She couldn't hear me on the phone, said my phone was breaking up (it was a land line), asked me a question, got distracted, didn't let me answer and then discussed something else before going back to her original question. I will update tomorrow after my cut. So, my hair did come out very evenly cut. I have thick curly hair which I am capable of blow-drying perfectly on my own (very Kardashianesque) but mine may be a tad thicker. Marc seemed to get lost in my hair & it took him a considerable amount of time but he made NO mistakes. As for it being a trendy or cutting edge style, it is not. There are many things you can do with a long layer to make it current. I might go to him again, just for the precision. The blow-out was not nearly as skilled as my own blow-out... he used the Morocanoil (brand) intense curl cream which leaves hair dull and heavy if used prior to blow-outs. They forgot to take the $10.00 off coupon which I got at www.bodhisalon.com. I mentioned it to Marc, but he said to tell the receptionist, although after 2 hours between cut and blow-dry, I was runnnning away from there and forgot. The cut cost me $70.00 plus tip, etc. which is nearly twice what I pay normally. Summary: I say give it a try. It's a very precise cut if not trendsetting, Marc is a very genuine nice guy, the other staff there are very nice also, and they do have the sweetest dog. So take your allergy pills if you need them, and allow for sufficient time if you have curly hair.. read more

I live in Bay Ridge but used to travel all over NYC to get my hair cut. I started in Astoria. Haircuts were great but didn't justify the 2 hour train ride. Then Manhattan. I visited several old-school barbers when I kept my hair super-short. For longer hair it wasn't the right place. Finally my coworker suggested Bodhi, which is about 5 minutes away from my house. I've been a loyal customer ever since. I waited until I had 3 haircuts to post a review - and each one has been amazing. Jean-Marc actually takes the time to examine my hair and talk to me about the style before even lifting the scissors. And he has an opinion, too, which is important. When I'm going to get my haircut, I'm intentionally seeking the advice of a professional - so I expect them to actually tell me what they think! Jean-Marc always does. But really the whole team is great. Adeline and Jean-Marc have created a very relaxed, very hip atmosphere (I swear it feels like I've left Bay Ridge) and their dog Enzo is perhaps the cutest dog I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. To sum up: Guys, if you're ready to move up from the barbershop, go here. You'll get a great cut and won't have to fork over $80 for it. For all you womenfolk I can't vouch personally but everyone I see when I'm there looks a)great and b)happy. And if you don't live in Bay Ridge it's about time you paid a visit anyway. I get my hair color (root touch up) and cut by Mark. He's a genius with coloring and my hair's the best it's ever looked, i actually like the color he chose for me better than my original hair color. It's a warm, bright brown that looks 100% natural. I also had a balayage done by Adeline last summer (over a year ago) and it still looks great as it's growing out. Jean-Marc really listens to what you want done with your hair, and talks you through every step of the process; even if it's just a simple haircut he keeps you abreast of the progress and his technique. The salon itself is so cute: very open and inviting with lots of cool artwork on the walls, and their cute dog, Enzo, is always walking around, checking everything out. Going here with a particular style in mind, it is a coin toss of a chance whether you will get what you had in mind, or whether the stylist will use you as a canvas to express his idea of what HE thinks looks better. It wouldn't be fair to say that the haircuts are terrible, but in my experience, they sure are mediocre. I kept returning hoping for a better outcome, because the location is convenient for me and the prices were decent. Customer service leaves a lot to be desired. The pervading attitude in the salon seems to be that the business is doing you a favor by servicing you. The cooler-than-thou attitude is a huge turnoff, particularly when it's from a salon in bay ridge. This place is amazing! I recently went to get my hair colored darker and trimmed. The stylist, Marc helped me choose a good color (Boysenberry), and then gave me full layers in addition to a trim. He also helped me choose the right products to keep my hair silky and make sure the color didn't fade. He really listened to me, but also made good suggestions and the end result was amazing. I recently debuted my new 'do at the Tribeca Film Festival, and one of the filmmakers stopped me in theater and said, "Wow... In my next life, I hope I have your hair." What a great compliment!!!
