Yesterday, I woke up unable to walk well because I was dealing with spasticity associated with Multiple Sclerosis. I was in a lot of pain too, because spasticity hurts. I could not go to work in my condition, so I booked a 60-min deep tissue massage with Lauren at Body Art Day Spa and Hair Salon to try to relax the spasticity. Lauren was very knowledgeable about MS. I told her my goal was to go to work the next day and not suffer in pain. She addressed the seriously spastic areas on my back, neck, and shoulders with cupping. I felt immediate relief. I had never had cupping before, and I was surprised with the instant results it provided. The room was decorated for Halloween, but in a cozy way. The vibe was definitely relaxing. This morning, I woke up feeling 10 years younger. I was not in pain like I have woken up with for the past 7 years. I was able to remember what my upper back and shoulders felt like before MS took over. To top it off, Lauren is a good soul. You can see it and feel it upon meeting her. I've been here before and had a wonderful experience but this time was the TOTAL opposite. I was led to a cold room by my masseuse and asked personal questions about my life such as my age and if I have kids. Just had a miscarriage 2 months ago not exactly a kicker for relaxation. The bed was comfy but the cold air continued to blow as a piece of paper in the vent loudly and obnoxiously flapped the whole time. Massage time, I've been super excited to come back and desperately needed the relaxation but this was not the outcome. The masseuse used so much oil it dripped down my body like a basted turkey as she gently rubbed oil all over me . 10 pumps I counted for each arm, each leg and the little attention to my actual back to only to be smashed in to the table, not massaged at all. Had elbows dug in to my spine, lower back and sides along with a strange choppy rub down. After I had a nice hot towel placed on my back and then I was beat on like a karate chop up and down my back. So strange. Just seems as if the technician wasn't certified to give massages to be honest. The lady was very nice and the facility was clean but for a whole days pay I'd expect a lot more from a massage. I'm physically in pain in my lower back and dripping with massage oil. I go to put my clothes on and notice as photoed OIL all over cute sweater hate to leave a bad review but it's 100% honest. First professional massage ever and I was 10/10 impressed. Lauren was great and worked on every point of my body that had tension built. It was a beautiful room and the sound machine almost put me to sleep. Wear loose clothes and don't come with clean hair as you'll get a little oily (obviously) but this is an example of Lauren targeting every tension point from your balls of your feet from standing all day, to your temples on your head and muscles in your neck. I was iffy about going to get my hair done due to COVID, but was surprisingly pleased with the efforts to sanitize and keep the facility as clean and COVID free as possible! Purchased a Groupon for a deep cleansing facial, detox bath, shampoo, and style and added on a full price deep tissue massage. When you walk in the door the front area is nicely decorated and has a quaint little seating area. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and was taken to the back promptly after some paperwork was filled out. I was taken through a set of doors to the "spa" area which is separated from the hair and nail salon. I was brought into the massage room and while my masseuse was explaining what to expect the front desk girl came in to fool with the breaker box for the whole place which happened to be located in that room. Something about an electrical problem in the salon. Once that was squared away I was asked to undress and get on the table. The massage table was heated which was a nice touch. The only real complaint I have about the massage was that there was no relaxing music playing. It was silent for the entire massage which I felt was a little awkward. Once it was over I was asked to dress which I found odd since I still had other services to receive. The masseuse realized her error when she came back and apologized. I was directed to the room across the hall where the aesthetician was located. I was handed a rather small towel wrap and was asked to get undressed from the waist up. The towel wrap was too small for me and I felt very self conscious with it on. The aesthetician was not friendly and hardly spoke during the facial. Not once did she tell me what to expect or let me know what products she was putting on my face. I was not impressed. Later that day when I got home I noticed I still had quite a few blackheads left behind. I will not use that particular aesthetician ever again. Once the facial was done I was handed a too small robe and brought to the room with the detox tub. I had to stand around and wait while the front desk girl came and set up the tub. I felt like the tub should have already been set up as you are only given a 20 minute soak time. I spent the majority of my time waiting for the tub to fill and adjusting the water temperature. She had just the hot water running and I nearly scalded my foot when I checked the water temperature. The tub itself was very clean but once I was settled and took stock of the room I noticed spider webs in the corners near the ceilings and candle wax that fell off a candle stick that was left in the corner by the tub. During the bath I could hear conversations going on in the room next door that I believed to be the nail salon. This made it very hard for me to relax and made me feel awkward that I was in a strange tub naked. I was told to rinse with cold water once my time was up but the handheld sprayer was broken so I had to stand and try to rinse with the faucet. The towels that we're provided for me to dry off we're fraying along the edges and had definitely seen better days. Overall the detox bath was a horrible experience and one that I will never repeat. Once I was dressed I was directed back to the waiting room to wait for a stylist to become free for my shampoo and style. I only had to wait about 5 minutes. The stylist came out to greet me and directed me to a shampoo station. Before sitting down I noticed there was a decent amount of hair left in the drain from a prior client. While the stylist shampooed my hair I noticed that she was breathing very heavily the entire time. Not sure if she was a smoker or had COPD. I was then directed to a chair in the salon and spent 5 minutes watching the stylist fool with power strips because the outlet wasn't working and she couldn't find a place to plug in her blow dryer. She finally figured it out and began drying my hair. Several times during the blow out she directed the heat on my scalp too long trying to create volume with a round brush that she burned me and I had to jerk my head away. The final result was nothing to write home about. Overall I very much disliked the experiences I had with the detox bath and the shampoo with style. If I purchase another Groupon for this place I would only return for another massage or a facial with a different aesthetician. I don't feel as if any of their services are worth paying the full price for due to the lacking atmosphere and mediocre staff performance. read more

I found this spa on Yelp yesterday at the last minute bc I pulled a muscles, was in pain and decided to give them a try. My usual spot was booked and they were close by. Upon entering, it was the cutest little boutique spa! A great atmosphere. The staff was pleasant and I was told I was in for a treat with the 90mins massage. I was greeted by my masseuse (which was their only masseuse). She was a cute spunky older lady. I felt two types of ways...first I felt like I would not get my muscles and aches smoothed out like I wanted bc she was older and may not have the strength...then I readjusted my thoughts and thought positive and said maybe she has lots of experience being older and I'm about to get a bomb massage!! Welp...it started off very soft. I felt like my 5yr old niece was basically rubbing my skin without even scratching the surface and massaging the actual muscles. I asked her to go deeper and she did a little but her techniques was just not what I was used to. They were not long, smooth and deep. Instead they were too light, choppy and shaky! I can honestly say she got better on my back but that's not where I really needed it. I was so disappointed and emotional that I paid my money for a massage that didn't help my aches or met my approval. I left out limping like I came in. I chose them on Yelp at the last minute bc the other spas of my choice were booked for the day. I don't think they should let her go bc older people may enjoy the light touch, but I truly think another masseuse should be added that can give you that cloud 9 feeling when walking out. Instead I felt like I needed another massage!‍ As a matter of fact, last night my husband re-massaged the achy muscle with essential oils for about 20 mins. and I felt a big difference right then and this morning the pain almost feels gone. I called about an issue I had with my nail service and whoever answered the phone was very rude and hung up on me. I'll never go here again. I was contacted by an associate (Bobbi), one month after I had the eyelash extensions. She said that she was conducting a survey to see if I was happy with their services. Which I thought was a little ironic. I told her that I had actually tried contacting the salon a few times to speak to the owner, but since she was asking about my experience. I let her know exactly how I felt. She told me that she wrote everything down that I said, and that the owner will call me within 1 to 2 days. Very nice quiet and relaxing. I tried this place for eye lashes extension. I really liked them a lot the time I got but I had a little reaction to them. No big deal I dealt with it and went back a second time .... Not so lucky the second time around - I had a real bad allergic reaction. So sad I couldn't enjoy my pretty lashes. I heard about this place through a groupon and decided to try it out. The groupon was for a deluxe mani and pedi for $35 when I believe the original cost for a deluxe mani/pedi is $77. I didn't receive the deluxe but they were still available to give me a regular manicure and pedicure. I had an amazing experience with Ms. Kathy. Both of us loved the color and how it turned out on my nails. The atmosphere is very relaxing with soft music playing in the background. The rest of the staff was helpful and nice as well. Looked high and low for a spa that catered to kids for my daughter's 10th birthday celebration with friends and this was the only local salon I could find. They advertise Birthday parties or special occasion parties for girls. Had gone to a birthday party a few years ago for a friend of my older daughters when the salon was still in Metairie and the place was very relaxing and professional. I guess a change in location changes everything. The site says they can handle a party with up to 12 kids. The area where the girls were to "relax" while waiting for their service was far too small for that number of children and it did not have a "spa" feel at all. The area where the nail services were done had a couple of pedicure chairs and a couple of manicure stations. The nail services were mediocre at best-definitely not professional like you'd expect at a salon. The techs didn't even put a top coat over the polish. But the worst part was one of the techs dropped the "f-bomb" while discussing her personal business with the other techs while giving a manicure to one of the kids. HORRIBLE!! This place is NOTHING like the salon was when it was in Metairie. Extremely disappointed. The only saving grace was that a couple of the techs were very nice and played games with the girls while they waited. read more
