It's a family-owned private gym and athletic training studio that recently went through a remodel and added more equipment--which was awesome to see. I did a drop-in session, but they also offer monthly memberships, one-on-one training, group training, and nutrition planning. During my visit, I got the chance to talk with two of the trainers. They were incredibly knowledgeable--not just about fitness and training, but also about proper nutrition and hormone health. That kind of insight is exactly what I look for in a gym and in a trainer. Nutrition and hormonal balance are key to real lifestyle changes. It's not always about pushing heavy weights--it's about finding the right balance. I really appreciated the energy at PDX Muscle. The gym is clean, welcoming, and there are no cliques. Everyone was friendly, and you can tell the owners and staff genuinely know what they're doing. Highly recommend if you're serious about training smart and living healthier.

3 months ago, I challenged myself to do something totally crazy - attempt something no one who…read moreknows me would expect - something that, quite frankly, seemed scary to me. I got a personal trainer. With two little ones, I decided it's time I get healthier. But, what do I know about fitness?! From day 1 - I was put at ease by Nick. He met with me, talked to me about my goals and discussed what sort of options were available to me. He never once made me feel like it was a hard sell - more, he was here to answer my questions and encourage me. Most importantly, he assured me that this wasn't going to be something that was going to drive me away. The team was going to work with me at my pace. I decided I'd go three mornings a week - totally crazy, right?! Now, I work with Vince three early mornings a week. Vince is awesome! He's fun to work with, super knowledgeable - always taking the time to explain things to me. And, most importantly, he's encouraging. I'm nowhere NEAR as advanced as some of the people I see, but Vince makes me feel like I have a place there. Just a few months ago, I would have NEVER thought you'd EVER find me in a gym. Now, I look forward to going!

A manager handled a simple membership dues issue by yelling across the entire gym floor that my partner "could not work out until a fee was paid." This was done loudly, publicly, and with zero respect. My partner and I are both long-time Crunch members, and no one should be treated like that over a billing question. It was embarrassing to watch and even worse to experience. Situations like that should be handled privately and professionally, not broadcast across a room full of people. What made it more concerning is that employees mentioned this manager has a pattern of yelling at staff as well. If that is true, it is a serious culture problem, not just a one-time mistake. Crunch promotes a welcoming environment, but this was the exact opposite. I will be following up with management directly, but this needs to be addressed immediately. No member or employee should be treated this way.

I deserve a vacation and in October I will be taking a NONSTOP flight to JFK. I will have a week in the best city in the country...I am planning on visiting all 5 boroughs (Beastie Boy style) and hitting up the best eats à la the food network. I figured that if I am 5 months out from this excursion, I deserve to look and feel better when I do it. Tonight after work I hit the gym and did some cardio and a little chest work. It was surprising how my body reacted...it wants to be challenged...ironic that I just bought a TV, but now I can balance it out. There has been some changes to the gym. It looks like there was some rearranging of the machines and some of the elliptical machines had been upgraded. Some things haven't changed though. Like people not understanding how to control their weights. There was also a machine that was squeaking...I think it was a recumbent bike...it seriously needs some WD40. I couldn't be the only one annoyed by it...could I? Oh well, I am looking forward to my trip and I am planning on looking a lot better come October...

The equipment hasn't been cleaned in a while by staff - which is evident by NO staft walking around cleaning. And the hand prints everywhere. Gross. Then the locker room OH my. What the hot as hot is happening?? Why is it so dang hot in the women's. Gross. And y'all that doesn't help with the body odor smell. Also there's just busted up stuff. Like this is becoming a super nasty gym. What the heck? I also hate the new ARC. I miss the old equipment. And the new layout is odd. Why are there two random step blocks next to the cables? I've been here a FULL Hour and currently the new trainer (who hired him btw???) And another guy are holding the counter up leaning up against it. No one is cleaning anything. She isn't interested in just collecting payment after her session, she's wholly dedicated to exceeding your goals. Her enthusiasm is unmatched, her encouraging cheerleading to get those last reps up makes it challenging and SO FUN. She's creative, never repetitive as so many trainers are and when you need that dose of pre-workout, she's got you! My reason for not signing my kids up, because $25/class is $100 a week for two kids a week. Which is $400/month. Which is a car payment. Nonetheless, my son's baseball schedule actually doesn't allow us to to any consistent training because the game days and times change each week. I really liked the LOW pressure approach to check it out for free and think about it. I never felt harassed or aggravated by "aggressive sales people." My daughter, who is extremely social and normally confident, was VERY nervous to be in the "check it out" session. They are both (my son and daughter,) "Rookie" aged and therefore did the same introductory class. Coach D was running the class. I was impressed because I had been training at a professional training facility with a trainer and Coach D was running the kids through what I had done doe warmups. He didn't let them give up and gently pushed. My daughter was feeling frustrated and told him that she felt like she wasn't doing as well as the other kids. And she felt weird as the only girl there. He told her that at D1, there are no girls or boy, just athletes. And she was doing better and picking it up quicker than most boys do. I had honestly not thought she would be interested in doing it at all, she just tagged along since we didn't have school and we're out running errands. But she was REALLY pumped up. She was stronger than age realized and really enjoyed it. She often feels super intimidated by new things but after completing it gets very excited. I love that she felt challenged, accepted and that she really wanted to go back. If we could get her alone there and make it worthwhile financially I think it would be so good for her. Maybe later. He had a strong knowledge of what to do and what not to do. I was able to simply keep healthy throughout my pregnancy and keep some muscle... weight loss was obviously not a goal. Tim was supportive, knowledgeable and changed his workouts as I grew. I HIGHLY recommend Tim and the Bodyplace. Tim has a passion for what he does and it shows. I brought questions to him every week about food and food choices. It is a non-intimidating environment and there was no judgement.
