I started seeing Dr Karah about 7 months before my first pregnancy to work on my pelvic floor in prep for labor. My first internal exams was tough for me but her incredibly calm nature and thorough cues taught me how to calm my nervous system and release tension. This ended up having a huge impact during labor when I had many cervical checks. I was able to prep myself to relax and the offer dreaded cervical checks were a breeze for me! Dr. Maryssa Steffen treated me and I am forever grateful for her. I was involved in a car accident and Dr. Steffen responded to my query with an appointment in less than a week. Make sure to give yourself time to find parking and communication is your friend if it is your first time, as I had walking mobility issues at that point. After months of treatment, she shared her expertise which I was able to take with me even a couple of years later. Certain exercises like squats against the wall are daily habits I do in the morning because of my rehabilitation journey with her. Dr. Steffen supported me by being respectful of who I am. She motivated me to learn more about my body beyond anatomy and physiology-which she also taught me a lot. I felt confident in her care. The office space, especially the room with a window looking over greenery, was conducive to healing. Each activity seemed enjoyable, even if there was pain involved; she was able to explain complex exercises and stretches in a meaningful way. She had a lot of equipment and resources. I want to highly praise Dr. Karah Charette for a beautiful session that supported healing my neck. Karah is a humble, brilliant and empathetic practitioner whose attunement and listening skills put me at ease as soon as I walked in. She was able to approach my chronic neck pain from many lenses, her physical therapy as well as a gentler somatic modality called Body, Mind, Centering. She described her work with people's core systems to work on the neck and hip biomechanics and any coordination issues that might exist, as well as the low back. We got on the floor and studied the anatomy of my neck, so I could get a visual and felt-sense of my ligaments there. With that sense, I am more prepared to let them hold the stress in my neck rather than the muscles needing to do the work. Then, she placed her gentle and wise hands on my neck and we used somatic visualizations to coax my nervous system to relax around my tender places. Her presence is so calming and her language invitational. I felt that I left with a greater sense of empowerment in how to guide myself to relax my neck, a more vivid map of my anatomy, and well, less neck pain. It was so much goodness in one session. I left feeling super centered, with significant reduction in my neck pain, and with a lot more awareness of the ligaments. I started seeing Karah to address leaking/incontinence issues during my second pregnancy that were a holdover from my first. I had been to pelvic PT through Kaiser, had not seen much of an improvement, and was still experiencing leaking with sneezing, running/impact, exercise, etc. Karah has been incredible! I recently saw Karah for a second session for pelvic PT as well as some tendonitis and I was having in my wrist and arm that had been going on for over 3 months. She assessed my posture and some other simple movements in my upper body. I started seeing Karah after my bladder prolapsed during my postpartum recovery. I went from feeling chronic discomfort from my prolapse to hardly ever feeling the prolapse which is exactly the outcome she predicted for me. I've been working with Karah at Bodyful for several months now and she has been immensely helpful in helping me work with not only my pelvic pain, but also my general body health. Several years ago I started to experience severe pelvic pain, and while I was diagnosed with non-bacterial prostatitis, no one was able to help me get true lasting relief. I have been working with Karah for the past year or so. When I first started, I was dealing with several issues - constant tingling and restlessness in my shin and calf muscles, urinary issues, and constant discomfort in my lower abdomen. I worked with Karah for over a year for pelvic pain with sex and I am not being hyperbolic when I say she changed my life. I had gone to another pelvic floor PT who helped some but I was still experiencing pain.
