I had a very disappointing and uncomfortable experience with Lisa Kay. When I booked my appointment, I clearly explained that I needed a customized massage focused on my lower back due to herniated discs. I also filled out all intake forms in detail and repeated my concerns in person before the session began. Despite this, the session did not reflect what I had requested. She spent a significant amount of time working on areas I did not ask for, including my upper body and even working over the blanket at the start. I gave it about 15 minutes, assuming she would eventually focus on my lower back, but that never really happened. When she eventually moved toward my lower body, she continued working over the blanket. I politely asked her to remove it so the massage could be more effective, and she responded with a loud, sarcastic laugh, which made me feel uncomfortable and not taken seriously. I then asked her to focus specifically on my lower back and avoid my legs, since that was the reason for my visit. She responded in a dismissive and sarcastic tone, claiming I had asked for hips and legs work, which I never did. The interaction made me increasingly uncomfortable. Specially with the several statements starting as "Well, JUST SO YOU KNOW... lies lies" At that point, I clearly asked her to stop the session because I no longer felt comfortable or safe. She did not immediately respect my request and continued to push back before eventually walking away with an attitude. Overall, I did not feel heard, respected, or safe during this experience. I would not recommend booking with her, especially if you have specific medical needs or expect clear communication and professionalism. I came in for a medical massage, but instead experienced unprofessional treatment, possibly discriminated against, and a session focused largely on irrelevant upper back work. Don't waste your time, specially if you are a person of color, she definitely is a Karen, possibly wanting to make America great again. read more

I got my first professional therapeutic massage as a reward to myself for the last year of lockdowns quarantines and isolation. I am glad I did. After a year plus of work from home and being hunched at a desk and using a elliptical I had tightness in my shoulders and hamstrings and a lot of built up tension. The Bodywork professionals contacted me to ask if I was ok with my massage therapist being male. Which, wasn't an issue for me but I suppose it is a considerate thing to ask ahead of time. Upon arrival I had to fill out a form with lots of medical questions and then I was escorted to a private room with relaxing music and a nice massage bed that was heated and able to be adjusted in terms of height and position. My massage therapist left the room while I took off cloths to my comfort level and got under the covers. I chose to keep my shirt and briefs on under the blanket and this didn't impede the massage at all. The massage itself was comprehensive and enjoyable. It involved a lot more pressure than "rubbing" of muscles and worked well. The entire time I was asked about my comfort, if the pressure was causing pain, to let them know if there were pinching or numbness sensations and involved both the front of my torso in the chest and shoulders as well as my back, my legs and hamstrings and feet. Afterwords my therapist advised me on some good stretches to work on some areas they identified as particularly tight. My hamstrings for instance, after using the elliptical every day, were very tight and so certain stretches would help with that. Overall I enjoyed the experience and while pricey, I would likely do this again. Perhaps treating myself to a paint and sip and Asian bistro meal after at the Newton Plaza. read more

I received a " certificate", for a Christmas". My, friend was not aware that I could not use it, and was not informed that there was a "no return policy" I have "medical conditions, cardiac and orthopedic", that prevent me from lying on my front. I did not want to disappoint her, so I intended to return the certificate, and use the refund to maybe go out to lunch with her. We are both elderly senior citizens, with fixed incomes. I was most disappointed that I was informed, they would not give a refund. I am sure the service they provide is excellent, however their business practice leaves a lot to be desired. I intend to pursue this further and will be in touch with Nick Pavoldi. My unfortunate incident was at the Niskayuna branch. Absolutely amazing. Very professional and relaxing environment. I completed the intake form online which made the process very smooth, I came in and was brought to the room we'd be using. Very calm music and dim lighting. I was working with Robin today, who was great at creating a soothing atmosphere. We talked about some of my problems and she explained what she'd be doing. She left for me to undress and get in bed. The bed was nice and warm and comfortable. The massage was very effective and I feel absolutely amazing afterwards. Robin talked with me afterwards about some exercises that would relieve some pain. Not to disparage spas that provide "massage" (in addition to Brazilian waxing and pedicures)but places that ONLY do massage are an entirely different animal. If you've ever had a not-so-great massage experience or wondered where to go when there are so many options; just go here. After horrifically spraining my back lifting weights, constant pain, missing days of work, and zero relief from pain medication, I dragged my ass to my doctor. She determined it was muscular and, in addition to a prescription, suggested I get a massage. She recommended Bodywork as the spot where she and her husband go. I'd passed it hundreds of times, always noticed their signage, but never looked into it. I made an appointment online for that day. Love the online option. I ended up selecting Lindsay for her availability (one appointment left seemed like a good sign) and her focus on sports injuries. Now, I can't speak for all the therapists but this was the best, most competent massage I've ever received. It had all the fun stuff about massage like bowl-singing music, soft lighting, yummy-smelling oils. It was relaxing. It felt good. But there was something about Lindsay's approach that was so skilled and medicinal. Not in a cold way. Maybe like a loving auto mechanic???? She was working on my body. She wasn't just rubbing it. She fixed my body. I've never had a massage where I got up and felt healed. I've felt good, sleepy, relaxed; but this time I was repaired. Do you watch Westworld? If you do; like that. If you don't I can't explain it because I really can't consistently follow the plot. Lot going on and I'm old and tired. But I digress. So Lindsay works her magic and for the first time in five days I have zero pain. I have mobility. I can stand straight. My legs are not collapsing under me. On a side note the stuff she did to my neck and shoulders (her specialty) was some other-level stuff. This is where I have chronic pain. The back incident is an anomaly. The work she did there gave me chills. This is what truly good massage is about. HEALING. Of course I'll be back. No question. I'm pretty sure the staff here are wizards. I scheduled a deep tissue massage for my husband and I and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm not really good at describing the problems I'm having with my body, so I did the best I could, and when Michelle got down to business she was able to pinpoint and work out the stiffness around my neck and my lower back and legs. She told me what she was doing and why, why things were stiff and sore, and how to stretch my muscles to help take stress off of them. I left feeling fantastic. I feel like my body is working properly and I can relax my shoulders finally. The staff are courteous and friendly and the location is warm and inviting. Before you get all hyped up, this isn't the typical "spa" you'd get a massage from. It's a low key quiet place. I got a 90 minute massage. It was very relaxing and an amazing stress reliever. Quiet waiting area and very clean rooms and bathroom. They send you coupons too afterwards for another massage, which I need to make my next one! *I'll update my review then. I usually never write reviews but felt the need to because Katelyn M. is SO good at what she does. As a professional (lawyer) who is often at my desk, Katelyn understood my concerns and stress pains. She knew all the right spots to press and just what needed to be massaged to relieve some stress. I went and bought 15 gift certificates at the holidays because she is THAT good. She is very knowledgeable and skilled. I come from NYC, and have been to some of the most expensive and highly qualified massage therapists in Manhattan. Nothing compares to how good Katelyn is. I have used Bodywork Professionals several times now and I have been very happy with each occasion. I have had work done by Nick, Karden, and Evan, and my infant son has seen Diane for cranial sacral work. My bodywork focused on plantar fasciitis and neck/shoulder tension. All practitioners have been great, each time I left feeling rejuvenated and my son absolutely loved his sessions with Diane. RATING IS FOR PRENATAL MASSAGE, ONLY - Writing this review as a pregnant woman in my third trimester. I was visiting family, from California, and badly needed a prenatal massage. I was disappointed, from the start, by the hard table and the 2 paper-thin pillows that the massage therapist gave me to support me for my side-lying massage. They really were the thinnest pillows I've ever seen. A massage therapist experienced in prenatal massages, would provide ample cushioning to go between the knees/legs, to support a pregnant belly, and a pillow to hug so that body alignment is comfortable for the client. I did ask for more pillows, but they were still paper-thin and not very supportive. I was also asked in the beginning if I wanted my face massaged and I said "yes" but that was not done before the session time ended and there was no mention of the omission by the therapist. I also stressed in the beginning that my problem areas were my aching hips and tailbone, but I felt like the therapist spent a lot of time on my arms, unnecessarily. I walked out feeling like I'd totally wasted my money. My mom loves this place, and we have the same preferences when it comes to regular deep-tissue massages, so I'd visit again post-pregnancy, but would NOT recommend for prenatal. read more

On 11/3 I had an appointment for an hour long massage with Lindsay. I have been seeing Lindsay for years, but this was the first time I had seen her since she began working at this establishment. It's not a "spa", it's just an adorable office with a cute reception area and different rooms for various services. I like the atmosphere better than the larger spas because it is quieter and more personal. I had some muscular strain in my neck and upper back and Lindsay worked her magic again! She is the most therapeutic massage therapist I have ever gone to. I have had several massages at many different places and usually I feel good leaving, but the next day I woke up feeling sore. I have found this is more related to technique than pressure. I have had various levels of pressure during different massages and yet still I feel sore the next day. When I see Lindsay I feel like my body went to therapy, if that makes sense. Her massages are healing, detoxifying and she really focuses on drainage. If you don't know what I mean by drainage, you probably haven't had a really great massage when you have allergies and sinus issues. The prices are right in line with the larger names, but I promise you that you'll actually get more from this smaller office than the larger spas. read more

Finally... An AWESOME deep tissue massage!!! I've had hundreds of massages over the past thirty years, at different establishments, but todays massage with Lindsay of Bodywork Professionals in Latham, was THE BEST deep tissue massage I have ever had! I walked in feeling sore, with restricted range of motion, and left feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. I can usually tell within the first few minutes of a massage if the therapist listened to my areas of concern, or they are just doing their "routine and going through the motions." I can't say enough good things about Lindsay and her attention to detail! She was professional and yet cordial, and right at the onset, It was apparent that this therapist was a skilled technician.
