If you point her to the tense areas, she zeroes in on them and doesn't let up until they're loose. Even if you don't direct her, she seems to have a supernatural ability to find your trouble spots. I used a Groupon for my first visit here, and it was so enjoyable. I have been having issues with my back and neck and Lena had me feeling like a brand new person. I had an hour and a half massage, and I don't think I could do anything less than that. She was patient with me as I smelled nearly every scent they have (maybe about 15 or 20), so next time I'll try to be early in order to figure out which one I want. Booking is easy and quick, it's very clean and comforting. The location doesn't feel stereotypical "spa"-like, but the results are so so good. I went to a chiropractor weeks before this massage and they couldn't do anything for me-Lena, on the other hand made all my aches and pains go away. Definitely recommend. As a tip, it's a little complicated getting into the parking lot-you may want to go through the Shop Rite and follow the side road to the left in, which will lead you right into the lot. read more

I bought a 60 min therapeutic massage on Groupon and was able to very easily make an appt for just a few days later through the Capital District Massage website. What a great system! It emailed me directions and then also an appt confirmation the day before. I had an excellent massage with Sarah. I told her about my fascia issues and where I keep my tension, and she went right to work. I have never had anyone use her finger technique on me before and it hurt in the best way! Then I got so relaxed, I fell asleep for the rest of the appt. She woke me up so gently and got me a cup of water when I left. As I walked to the car I could feel how loose my back had become. Am disappointed my daughter purchased a one hour massage for me on Mother's day for me, however, I live in Binghamton, NY and on any given day that I was able to travel here, to Albany I was unable to schedule an appointment now my gift certificate will expire 8/1/13 and am here and can't get an appointment :( They must be really good or understaffed. read more

Booked a massage with Lena yesterday based on an ad on Craigslist that caught my eye, "Addicted to massage?" That I am, having discovered all the mental and physical benefits of partaking in the activity. I've been to probably a hundred different places over the years. Yesterday I discovered a young woman who really stood out from the crowd and has officially raised the bar for what I'll be expecting in a massage. It's hard to describe Lena's massage without sounding corny or like a shill, but if you had a girlfriend who was an exceptionally trained masseuse you might get close to what Lena imparts to you. She's as far from mechanical as you can get. From the moment she placed her hands on my back and paused that way before doing anything, I felt her positive energy flowing. I asked for a Swedish style relaxation oriented full body massage after she questioned what I expected to get from the session, and any areas I wanted her to give special attention. It wasn't long before I was drifting into vacationland. I've never felt strokes like Lena's before -- very slow, exceptionally smooth, almost loving. At the same time, when she feels a tight muscle, she can really zero in on it. She's a slight framed woman, but she's got some powerful pressure when she needs it. I originally scheduled for a one-hour session, but as she was wrapping up with my feet, she asked if I'd like more time. Oh yes Lena, I want more time. I'm not ready to go back to reality yet. So I took another hour (something I have never done, by the way) and Lena started back at my head and neck and spent the next hour massaging my favorite areas (yes, she asked where I'd like her to focus her attention, and I had to remember she's NOT my girlfriend! Lol). I can't say enough how impressed I am with Lena's abilities, and I also enjoyed our occasional banter when I managed to drift back into consciousness here and there. Best massage ever! Usually I don't write reviews but for this time I'm gonna make an exception with Kelli C. She started face up and she worked the shoulder area excellent. She worked hips and legs so good. During the massage I was thinking about how good she was but I was waiting to see how she worked the upper back. She really understands the meaning of deep tissue massage, she really does. When she was finishing the upper back I had to tell her how good she was. I'm very athletic & asked for some deep tissue points. Let's just say that I needed a massage after my massage. If you're doughy, then it will be enough. This is an amended review. Lena gets 2 more stars for effort in remedying the poor massage I felt I received. I did ask for my needs met, discussed that I was very active & pointed out areas that needed attention. If the newer therapist couldn't understand that, then I'm glad this review was helpful in getting her some education. Used a Groupon to check this place out. I will definitely return. The place is clean and comfortable. My massage therapist was Cathy and she was welcoming, friendly and skilled. She did a great job. I felt the way I always hope to feel after a massage - relaxed and a little weak in the knees. I found the online scheduling convenient and easy to use. This is an update to a previous review. I have been receiving massages from Kristina roughly once a month since last May. Every time is better than the last. She seems to intuitively know just what I need and my previously chronic lower back and hip pain has just about disappeared. Kristina is exceedingly friendly and considerate, customizes the session more and more to what I need and the whole experience is wonderful, every single time I see her. I have lately upped my attendance to every three weeks and really wish I could afford it even more often than that. Just an overall terrific experience. My previous review did take note of the somewhat aging outer area and that has not changed, but ignore it and get inside and I think you will like it. This is not a big fancy, impersonal facility by any means. It is small, personal and just what I like. I am a fan and will keep going to Kristina as long as she continues working. read more

I'm confused as to the good reviews for this venue...I bought a 60 min therapeutic massage with my group on which is why I tried Capital District, Lena was my masseuse. When I arrived for my 12pm appointment the office was locked and empty so I had to wait sitting on the floor of the hallway which I didn't love. Lena's demeanor is awkward and uneasy, she did not make me feel at ease at all, and though I am used to massages as I have gotten many at many different places, if I were new to massage and perhaps body conscious Lena would not have made you feel very comfortable. The room and table were fairly cold. As far as the massage goes, meh. It was okay not great not horrible, she definitely tries to get a "deep tissue" effort, but it was a little too much pinching and not enough rubbing if that makes sense. I have been to quite a few places and I didn't leave with that sense of finding a masseuse with magic hands for my chronic back problems. She wasn't horrible, but I wouldn't go back. I have gotten a much better massage with a groupon right down stairs from Capital District at Om Shanti Healing arts with Ananda, and would recommend her over Lena. read more

I used a Groupon deal to try out this massage center. The online scheduling was very convenient. I had a wonderful therapeutic massage with Sara, who has great hands and can find all those trigger points and knots that keep me from moving freely & feeling good. I felt so very much better that on the way home, thinking about what other delightful things I could treat myself to, I missed a turn! Sara is very talented, attentive, and careful to keep checking in to ensure that her technique is 'enough' but not 'too much' on aching spots. I would definitely recommend her. My only hesitation was initial, when I learned that although I had scheduled with Lena, she was not there. Once Sara went to work on all the trouble spots, however, I didn't care. Wow. After reading through these reviews I was somewhat excited for my massage. Nevertheless, I was greatly disappointed. Firstly, the place of business was a joke, without a punch line. The pathetic excuse of a massage room was located in a run down building and was confusing to even find. Next, the professionalism was lacking right off the bat, with the lack of a health history questionnaire directed towards us, the clients! Additionally, the music was not very relaxing and the room didn't feel sensual. To my surprise, the massage was entirely non enjoyable. Both of the techniques used by Lena and Kristina failed to provide us with any satisfaction, relief, or relaxation which we both requested. Their one technique (some sort of forearm pressing) was highly uncomfortable and causing more pain than satisfaction. Also, the parts of the massage that did feel good were quickly removed by them regressing back to the forearm technique! Do not waste your money, unless you purchase the Groupon. Do not I repeat DO NOT purchase the full price massage, you will be very angry at yourself. I can't stress enough how unprofessional this massage truly was. Ranging from the venue, to the actual massage, to the offering of tap water at the end! If you are going to offer us tap water, one: don't say it is tap and two: prepare it while you leave the room and we are getting ready to leave! Hopefully Lena will use this post as a way to enhance her business, because I do believe she has potential if she works out some major kinks.
