The overall experience here was absolutely 5 stars! There are a lot of wineries / wine bars in Portland, and this was at the top of my list because of the vegan charcuterie board options. FYI: the charcuterie vending machine was temporary, and they are now back to an a la carte charcuterie board menu. I had a tasting flight, and enjoyed the depth of flavors and variety in the wines -- lots of unique and beautiful fruit notes! I ordered the vegan balsamic cheese and OMG!!! Soooo creamy and delicious!! I also ordered the mushroom jerky -- well worth it! It's not as tough as beef jerky, which makes it easier to eat. And the flavor is bomb -- definitely tastes like mushrooms and jerky mixed together. The kind lady working the business on the day we visited gave me extra complimentary crackers and apricots. :) She was absolutely wonderful, and it's safe to say the service here was top notch. It was an unusually cold day in Portland (just after their unprecedented snowstorm this year!), so the seating room was crazy cold. That's my only complaint. I have been a fan of the Boedecker's since they were in Carlton, and now their studio for the past couple of years is conveniently in NW PDX. This couple has a passion for good wine and its economical. They are throwing events like soup nights and harvest tastings regularly. In fact, last night, I went to a wine club happy hour pairing of their rose and two pinots. The tables were donned with white cloths and bottles of wines with candles lit. The wine was each accompanied by a wonderful appetizer - balsamic strawberries and goat cheese, shitake mushroom frisee salad and a crouton of pork and chutney. I have to admit - I joined their wine club on the spot! Glad you are close! Beautiful space for events too when its not filled with the oaking barrels! Tasting room is tres chic minimalism. I got the opportunity to check this place out because my friends had a fourth reservation space available. They are all huge into wine and I am definitely a newbie in the area. It should stand as a testament to this location that both they and I were entertained and enjoyed the wine as well as the tour and the personable staff. Boedecker, named after its founders only about ten years ago, is full on PNW charm; the employee working today during my visit told us that the furthest south the winery goes to acquire its fruit is Eugene, Oregon. Boedecker Cellars also has dueling Pinot Noirs--one named after founder Athena and one named after founder Stewart--made to highlight different flavors in various Pinot Noirs. All in all, it was a great first wine tasting experience for me and certainly worth it for the others present. They were all there using a current deal: $22 for two to have wine tasting, snacks, and go home with a bottle of wine for your trouble. Not too shabby. read more

The wines are excellent and we left with a few bottles of Pinot noir, which rival any of the beat the region has to offer. It is in the NW industrial part of Portland so it is convenient. An amazing AMAZING tasting room. Burt was extremely attentive to us and gave us a wonderful tasting. Athena was extremely nice and prepared a charcuterie plate for us and brought us more crackers when we ran out. The rose we tried was very good and refreshing for a hot summer day. Our first visit to Boedecker Cellars for a event last night was a great surprise. They have a wonderful tasting room in an architecturally interesting older warehouse. Be sure to look up at the wooden arches for roof supports. Right off the tasting room is a open barrel room with additional seating. Boedecker wines are tasty & complex yet approachable for this simple wine lover. We eagerly purchased two bottle and look forward to enjoying them before our next gathering with friends. Apparently if you reserve a car online, that doesn't guarantee it will actually be there when you go to Avis to pick it up. (I should write a separate ranting review for Avis...) Anyway, our plan to visit the vineyards fell through, so we decided to make the most of being stranded in Portland. Solution: urban wineries. This experience is completely different than visiting a vineyard in Dundee, but it was still a wonderful afternoon. It isn't really fair to compare the rolling vineyard hills to NW Industrial parking lots, so I'm trying to review Boedecker Cellars for what it is. And I should also mention what it is not. It is not a fancy, elaborate tasting room, but a small and simple space. This place is about wine, and that is it. However, that is certainly enough! The wine here is wonderful, and priced fairly. Bottles range from $15-$65, and you'll get a quality wine at any price point. A tasting is $10, but that's waived if you buy a bottle. Since the atmosphere doesn't lend to relaxing and drinking wine all day, I suggest a quick, informative tasting, and then taking a bottle (or a few) home. I came in on a quiet weekend afternoon, so there were only a few other people tasting and stocking up on bottles. Based on the yelp photos others posted, it looks like they hold events here as well. I'll have to keep an eye out for that! I'll definitely be back to stock up on "special bottles" (which to me and my boyfriend, as students, means anything over $10). If you're into Pinots definitely look into joining the wine club... You can find out all about it when you go, but it may be worth it to have a local source for quality, affordable wine. read more

This winery is a little gem in the industrial neighborhood of NW. I'm tentative to write a review because I don't want to let others in on my secret! Stewart and Athena are completely down-to-earth winemakers, and you can usually spot them somewhere around the winery. The wine club is super fun, and Athena creates great little snacks for every release event. We joined this wine club because we love every single wine we taste.
