We were roaming around Distillery District and decided to grab an early dinner before we head back home. I always had a good experience at BOKU and recently visit did not disappoint! We were greeted at the door right away :) Our server was friendly and courteous; he looked European, which always throws me off at a Japanese restaurant lol. The ambiance was cozy and the paper umbrellas hung on the ceiling was a beautiful touch! We shared a few items, and the food portions were quite good: Curry Udon with Shrimp (you can get Chicken or Tofu as well) - I really enjoyed the curry, not too spicy but very flavouful. The shrimp was actually crispy battered shrimps, and they were good! Champon Noodles - I always thought this dish was actually Korean, but I guess not lol. It is a seafood mix with noodles in a buttery, creamy broth. Initially, it did not look to appetizing but it was quite tasty. Fruit Sake Flight - For 22$, we opted in for this sake flight, comes in 4 mini sake cups. We tried the Lavender Ume, Sanzen Yuzu, Nashi Pear and Momo Peach. I personally really liked the pear and the yuzu one :)

Beautiful interior and bar area. I ordered the Boku Curry Chicken. Curry chicken was nice with a hint of spice. $18.99 I was here Sunday night & they have an all weekend special of Sapporo beer $6. During the week they have daily special which are quite reasonable.

Great atmosphere, very spacious restaurant located in Distillery. Came to visit during the holiday market season and was looking for a place indoors to dine in instead. Curry udon: Admittedly the food was quite mediocre, nothing that really amazed me enough to come back again. The curry udon was a bit steep given the quality was meh. It was quite busy at the market so this was one of the few options that was indoors to eat at. I feel like it's not worth going out of your way for especially since there's much better Japanese food options in Toronto. The service was quick and the staff were friendly.

We called in for a snack en route to Illuminarium. Service was friendly and prompt and we sat on the patio. The restaurant has an informal ambiance and is a good choice for a casual meal.

I visited distillery district and came across this restaurant, which has a sign Happy Hour outside. I gave it a try and really good deal. I've the sake flight and tuna steak. Both are good and good portion for 1 person.

Food 2/5 Service 3/5 Ambiance 4/5 Food We came to eat lunch here so we could roam the Holiday Market afterwards. We ordered gyoza, a salmon avocado roll, chicken karage, & beef teriyaki. Hubby said the gyoza & chicken were okay but nothing special. The salmon avocado was pretty ordinary. They didn't roll it well so it started falling apart quickly. The beef teriyaki looked good. It came with a salad & steamed rice. However there was so much teriyaki sauce it was hard for me to eat. It was super salty because of all the sauce. I tried to eat small pieces of beef & lots of the rice & salad but I gave up soon afterwards. Service The waitstaff were mostly young servers that looked like they were either teens or early twenties. They smiled & were friendly. We got our dishes relatively quickly. The kitchen was to the right of our table so we were able to watch them prepare everything Ambiance This location is narrow & long. The tables are large & pushed pretty close together. It's squishy. They also have an outdoor patio. They had the fire pits going when we arrived (it was December). There are japanese umbrellas hanging from the ceiling which looked neat. There's an industrial vibe going on here. They only have two single washrooms at the back btw, be prepared for lineups when it's busy. I wouldn't come back here again. I didn't think the food was that great. I was disappointed because the ratings on yelp looked okay & I love Japanese food. Hubby also agreed that the food wasn't great.

Honestly, my experience here was BAD. We came on a Saturday afternoon during the Christmas market season, so it was pretty busy. We put our name on an iPad, and the wait was about 45 minutes. When we were seated we had to share a table (we were a group of 5). The servers kept mixing us up, literally 10 seconds after we paid she forgot. They also charged us an automatic 20% service fee without letting us know first, no word of it at all, I found that to be dishonest. My friend and I got the tonkotsu ramen. It was so strange, the noodles were not ramen noodles at all, but Chinese flour noodles. The broth was not rich and tasted like plain bland pork broth. My friend's pork belly slices tasted like it had gone bad. Prices were also on the high end for ramen. My other friends got a salad and eel on rice. There were also only two washrooms so the lineup was crazy long I don't recommend this spot... And my friends agreed

We were distracted by their super cute patio and decided to stop in for a drink. Service was a bit all over the map but I wouldn't say slow, per se. my husband had the Tokyo Fashioned which had cool presentation and he loved. I had the Okayama Bellini which was pretty good. It was pricey for a quick afternoon stop.

It's my first visit to Boku and they have a wide varieties of Asian cuisine, ranging from curry rice, ramen to karaage and amazing cocktail! Staff are super friendly and helpful The decoration in the store are soooo instagrammable, like the geisha themed wall

We came here again during the Christmas market - and we enjoyed a warm umami rich udon with spicy bao buns and hot toddy's. This was absolutely fantastic and everything I could have wanted on a chilly day.

Though the place was busy during the Distillery Winter Market, we managed to find a seat for just two people, and the wait wasn't that long. They had a combo set where you could order an appetizer, a ramen bowl, and a drink for $35. The ramen was comforting, especially on a cold day. The place is restaurant is family friendly. I wouldn't mind coming back here for another bowl of ramen.

Great location and ambiance but I wish they had some of their old stuff, their current main menu is pretty bland at the moment Had to look for their sushi menu since our waiter was low key not really helpful and ended up getting their salmon sashimi Ordered 7 but got only 3 at first since the bro didn't hear me correctly, I gave him a benefit of a doubt and was like "maybe they give it 3 at a time" since I don't wanna be that guy LOL but nope he actually didn't hear me...

My friend had the King of Kings as our server said this is one of their most popular choices. I opted for the Spicy Charsu. Now I understand some people can't handle heat but I live off of Purple Tongue hot sauce which is made with some pretty hot peppers. I asked for a level one and the lady explained that the spice level on the Charsu was a whole series of levels higher than the King of Kings. I get that . Give me the heat. Anywho, she was comfortable with giving me 0.5 but said I could make it hotter if need be. Ok, better to start smaller I guess. They put some sauce on the side which I added to my bowl. Personally I found the 0.5 a nice tingle; it was good. Made my nose run. But I'm totally getting the level 1 next time. My friend however tried a sip of my broth, spit it out and said poison poison because of the heat Mind you, his King of Kings was a level 1. Which to me tasted creamy and delicious. I love a good pork bone soup and I opted for the Spicy Charsu because of the pork bone base. I loved the broth. It was perfection. The noodles were so fresh . The portion size was enormous. I kept eating and more noodles appeared. The Charsu had an amazing flavor to it . Smoky and delicious . My friend is a larger man and even he commented on the portion size saying he would be ok with a smaller size as he was so full. Good portions for your money. We also had the Gyoza and the TakoYaki. The TakoYaki was soft and loaded with the delicious sauce. The Gyoza were enormous. We were both 100% satisfied with our visit and will be back for sure.

The concerned server told me that it may be painful, but being the chili head that I am, I gladly took on the challenge. It was a larger bowl than their regular size and my ramen came topped with lots of corn, some mushrooms, bean sprouts and 6 large pieces of chasu. The broth was magma red, but it was not as spicy as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, it was spicy but not to the point where it would warrant a warning. The spicy broth tasted like a mix of Buldak sauce and Capsaicin, but didn't have much depth. I finished my ramen, broth and all and enjoyed most of the experience. The least favorite was the chasu and the egg as chasu did not taste fresh, and I could not taste the char on them at all. The egg was over-cooked and under marinated which was disappointing. It's still one of the few ramen options in Durham but can't say it's comparable to the other Kenzo locations.

Reach ten stamps and you get a free bowl of ramen. - The chashu is excellent! My rating is 4.5 stars. I'm rounding down. Last Tuesday, I had my monthly 7 am meeting with a bunch of technical writing peers from around the world. It's quite the meeting that typically lasts for four hours. Luckily, we ended earlier than usual. It meant that my workday ended at around 3:30 pm. It was perfect, as I had a concert to attend several hours later. Normally, I don't do dinner before a concert. I grab a quick bite to each before I head downtown. This time, since I was done work early, I felt that having an early dinner was worthwhile. I drove downtown and parked in a lot that seems to be my usual spot whenever I'm attending a concert at Massey Hall. My original plan was to find an eatery close to the concert venue. I spotted Hokkaido Ramen Santouka steps away. I wanted ramen! I walked in and there was a sign that said to wait. I had no wait time. A woman and the entire staff greeted me. I asked for a table for me and got one. It was great. Seating between tables and diners is close together. You definitely overhear conversations and you can't help it. The man next to me had stretched his foot under my table. I didn't notice that he was in my space until I uncrossed my leg and my foot hit his. I listened to two friends next to me. The man seemed to take charge over what he and his female friend should eat, which was interesting. He gave the impression that he was an expert until the server came over and he had a ton of questions. It's always fun being an observer and listener. I had no choice but to listen to her dating experiences. I got a menu. I knew what I wanted. My server came over and was ready to take my order. I got these items: - Diet Coke - Miso chachu ramen, with bamboo shoot held - Jammy egg and corn as extra toppings The menu doesn't tell you what ingredients you get in each type of ramen. However, it does come with a photo. I asked how large a large bowl of ramen was. My server was great pointing up to a display of three bowls. I went large. The photo indicated that my miso ramen had bamboo shoots. I'm not a fan of them, so I asked that they be omitted. I also added a jammy egg and corn. I got a cold can of Diet Coke. A frosted glass with ice accompanied it. I was happy. I love an icy cold drink. This one was excellent. I loved that it was extra cold. My bowl of ramen had arrived. I was excited to dive in. My miso chachu ramen was delicious. The miso flavour was on point. I drank most of the broth, which speaks volumes on how yummy it was. The chachu was tender and had the best balance of pork and fattiness. The number of slices was generous. The ramen was chewy and perfectly done. I loved the corn and jammy egg. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed my ramen without these two key toppings. They worked nicely with the green onions. What prevents me from giving this place a perfect rating is flagging a server to get me water, or to frankly flag any staffer for something, such as ordering dessert or getting the bill. It took effort and hand-waving to get their attention. It took two tries to get a glass of water with ice. I was happy when I got some after I had finished my Diet Coke. It was equally as cold and yummy. I ordered dessert. The menu is stuck on each table. I asked what ice cream flavours were available. There were two flavours and I went with matcha. It was rich, creamy, and full of strong matcha flavour. The scoop of ice cream was generous. I loved the small spoon, which allowed this dessert to last a lot longer. I asked for the bill. I got a payment machine. I used my credit card to pay and tip. All was great. I used the washroom before I headed over to explore the downtown area. The washrooms are downstairs. It's an older building, so accessibility is an issue. There are two single-stall washrooms. The one that I used was clean. Because it's an older building, the ceiling is low. I am just shy of six feet in height. I made it without hitting my head on the ceiling. If you are six feet and taller, you'll need to duck to make sure you don't bang your head. Staff say goodbye to you when you leave. It was a nice touch, although I don't know what they are saying to me in Japanese. They could be swearing at me and I wouldn't know. I had a wonderful experience here. If you don't mind sitting close to folks and waving your arms like a maniac to get your server's attention, come here. This ramen joint appeared as a Michelin place in 2017. I can see why. The food quality is excellent. (200)
