I walked into the store no one asked if I needed help, I was standing at a register that wasn't open and a girl from far away said "just go over there" pointing to the register on the other side. When I got to the register the girl (Ava as it shows on my receipt) didn't say a word, no eye contact. A self check out at least says hi and welcome. So disappointed because this is not a cheap store to have this kind of customer service.

I visit Huntington Beach often and stop in here from time to time to grab a shirt or some sandals. Huntington Surf and Sport has all sorts of apparel from brands like Hurley, O'Neill, Vans, Quiksilver, Billabong and Volcom. You can also rent a board for the day if you don't have your own. In front of the shop is the Surfer's Hall of Fame and a statue of surfing legend Duke Kahanamoku. The Surfer's Hall of Fame had its first inductees in 1997 and honors legends of the sport with handprints and footprints on the sidewalk. Huntington Surf and Sport will sometimes set up canopies outside to sell marked-down merchandise.

They truly have so much to choose from as far as styles you can never see it all during a single visit. From Van's to Volcom to RVCA and more, this is a Beach goers dream store all under a single roof. They can be a bit pricey on regular in store items, but the sales savings equal things put a bit, and the quality and variety is top notch. The only thing holding this back from five stars is the fact that it sits in the busiest part of the beach (for obvious reasons) so parking does not come easy to find or cheap as you either must hike from a nearby housing track track allows parking or use a neighboring lot of meters. I am a huge fan of this shop and will continue to come here for years to come. Also, be sure to check out the coffee shop inside as well, as they too are an amazing little business tucked inside.

I know some of these are limited edition but c'mon.. if you want $250 for a jacket you're gonna have to add more than a patch or small graphic to a regular looking jacket/hoodie to get my business. Over the last decade, streetwear has really come into its own- building up from brands like LRG, Obey, and Stussy into The Hundreds, Triumvir, and countless others. Avenue's been through all of that, and the minute you walk in, you get a feeling that these guys really ain't no joke. The folks at Avenue live the lifestyle and believe in the art- because of that, the stuff they carry is always fresh and legit. I remember stumbling into Avenue back in high school, trying to find a place to quench my LRG fix. The main man behind the register, Arthur, not only helped me with what I was looking for, but really took the time out to explain the finer points of streetwear. Every time I stop by, he's always there doing his thing, and mindful of stuff I'd be interested in that's already out or coming out soon. It's places like Avenue that really show what OC is all about- not all that pretentiousness you see on Laguna Beach. Avenue represents this drive for a changing culture that I wish more people could appreciate and acknowledge for what it's worth.
