Not only is this a hometown spot and part of my "formative" experience growing up in OC, but Avenue itself is an institution in the Southern California streetwear community! Over the last decade, streetwear has really come into its own- building up from brands like LRG, Obey, and Stussy into The Hundreds, Triumvir, and countless others. Avenue's been through all of that, and the minute you walk in, you get a feeling that these guys really ain't no joke. The folks at Avenue live the lifestyle and believe in the art- because of that, the stuff they carry is always fresh and legit. I remember stumbling into Avenue back in high school, trying to find a place to quench my LRG fix. The main man behind the register, Arthur, not only helped me with what I was looking for, but really took the time out to explain the finer points of streetwear. Every time I stop by, he's always there doing his thing, and mindful of stuff I'd be interested in that's already out or coming out soon. It's places like Avenue that really show what OC is all about- not all that pretentiousness you see on Laguna Beach. It's a little hard to find something in my size at times but that never bothered me, sometimes you just have to make it work! Who woulda thought - streetwear in Fountain Valley?! I've been out of touch with Fountain Valley for a while, but damn, you can find the hippest kids hanging out at this plaza. The skateboards, rice rockets, navy blue Dickies and Nike Cortez's of yesterday have all been replaced with neon fixed gear bikes and streetwear apparel. Sandwiched between both Ebisu's (the ramen shop and Bon Marche), is this clean cut, super hip shop. They've almost got everything to quench anyone's streetwear hunger pangs short of Los Angeles itself (I'm talking about The Hundreds, LRG, Triumvir, and even some FreshJive). Outerwear, tees, tops, snap backs, fitted caps, and even a corner dedicated to kicks - yeah, this is OC streetwear heaven. My only complaint is that they don't have any Crooks and Castles! Ahhh! Haha, but I ain't sweating them for it. Also, come during their clearance sales and they have racks full of clothing that's 40, 50, 60, and even 70 percent off! Even a rack with just $10 tees. It doesn't get much better than getting The Hundreds gear for $10! read more

It's pretty hard to find cool streetwear stores in our neighborhood. This little Japanese owned boutique carries a great selection of Nikes and cool Street brands like LRG, Obey, Triumvir, and more. The service is good and the layout is easy to shop. They are currently remodeling and I can't wait to see how it turns out. read more

I don't skate anymore but when I was living in Huntington Beach, Avenue was one stop shop for skating gear. They seem to have a solid collection of skating gear and have been helpful when I've been in the shop. I haven't bought anything there in a few years but my brother still recommends it to me if I need to get him a gift or pick up something skating related. I walked by today and it looked like they had redone the interior of the store since my last visit. But alas, I didn't get a chance to go inside. Avenue also has a decent selection of clothing on top of the skating gear. It's your all around skate shop if you need gear or clothes. And the shopping center it is in is totally awesome. Nice, attractive streetwear boutique. My family and I stopped in one night last month and met Arthur and a girl whose name I can't remember. Both were friendly and very enthusiastic about streetwear and fashion in general. Arthur comes across as a guy who really knows and loves streetwear and is passionate about the products he sells. Streetwear isn't really our style, but my wife and I found a few pieces that were cool. I liked a few of the STPL jackets Arhur showed me. I also dug the collection of old-school kicks from PF Flyers. If I get some money back on taxes this year, I'll go pick up a few pieces. Update: I guess they are changing their name to "Orange County General Store" as they are having a "Goodbye Avenue" sale of 50-80% off certain items. I went in last week. Nothing on sale caught my eye, but like I said, I'm not that into streetwear, so more for you. read more

If you're into snobby customer service and cold stares when shopping "streetwear," then it's best that you avoid Avenue. This place is honestly pretty sick. The selection is pretty unique and they often have sales. They get a lot of the rarer shoe releases here, and they sell them at box price, so that's always a plus. Avenue also offers a points program, which isn't much, but it's better than nothing. I'm not a skater, so I can't really speak to that facet of this store. If you're bored or just want to get away from the bougie-ness of South Coast for a bit, Avenue is worth a visit. The people are mad friendly and always willing to chop it up. Just don't tell everyone, how else am I gonna be able to get my shoes?! read more

DAMN, IT FEELS GOOD TO BE A GANSTER! With that said, I have to look the part too, nah mean?! Nah, I'm fuckin' with you. This a friendly streetwear boutique. No elite snobbines at this place. I used to come here for some fresh pair of kicks and all my "fly gear" needs. They always have kick-ass sales goin' on, you'd swear you were shopping at the Goodwill or Salvation Army. They don't jack up the prices on your rarer sneaker releases. Some of their stock ain't cheap though. What do you expect if some of the stuff you're buying is of limited release. If you're in the loop and know your streetwear, then you know they carry brands like orisue, triumvir, etc etc.... Arthur is mad friendly and you can tell he knows his shit and is all sorts of passionate about what he does. Gotta respect that! If he isn't too busy, he'll chat it up and tell you what's new. Occasionally we end up spittin' about what shoes I got on and what's up and coming out in the near future. They recently changed their name to OCGS (Orange County General Store). 1st of all, I'm a streetwear aficionado. I've had my finger firmly on the pulse of what's up for about a decade now; having lived, in L.A., SF, NY, and London. Of course, we sort of develop our own fashion niches and style (unless you're a main stream sheep following the herd like many people). I've been here a few times to browse and chat with both workers and customers and everyone is super chill and down-to-earth (unlike many places in bigger cities). In other words, they're not "too cool for the room". The size and layout reminds me of similar boutiques in Little Tokyo and other parts of LA, and NY. The only reason I'm holding back a star is that I'm an ultra picky mother effer and they don't actually carry any brands I like except Nike and Adidas (but they don't carry the old school super rare styles [pre-1975] that I prefer.) And I don't skate a whole lot anymore so I'm pretty indifferent about that gear. When I do skate, I'm fine with my vintage Caballero. This will never happen in a billion years but it would be completely bitchen if they carried import brands like: Pretty Green, Merc, Cavern, Baracuta, Brutus, Lonsdale, Fred Perry, Double Two, Clarks Originals, Bukta, Delicious Junction, Aertex, Superga, etc. I was pretty surprised that they didn't even carry Extra Large or Fuct (two of my favorite domestic brands). I'll cut them slack for not carrying Undefeated because Urban Outfitters carries them now. Haha. To put things in perspective, Pac Sun even carries some of the brands that Avenue carries. This is mildly disturbing. And the other reason, I'm holding back a star is because it's not the hippest store in the strip mall. The coolest store in the center is TKO Records. Old school punk rock and vinyl is timeless and way, waaaaaaaaay doper than contemporary urban/hip-hop culture, etc. , IMO... However, I'll drop by to visit whenever I'm in the strip mall because of the super chill atmosphere. I'm hoping that one of these days they'll have a shipment from Japan of super rare pre-1975 Adidas and Nikes. That would be so damn cool!! Well, I can dream... p.s. Been Shopping here since 2006 I guess. Always feel good and they always have a great sale going on. They sure know how to treat a customer right. One of the best store you can ever find in O.C. at the heart of Fountain Valley, CA. Staff here knows what they are talking about, and they also remember the good customer. word, this store is straight og. started as a skate store. naturally, the hands of time have morphed avenue into a fresh, urban apparel boutique. (skate decks are pretty sparce here) nowadays, you can find their shelves stocked with all the "real head" streewear .....obey, lrg, 10 deep, lemar and dauley, franco shade, nike, orisue, greedy genius......lots of dope oc exclusives here. nice murals to view also if your into the whole graf/paste scene. dudes are super friendly too, can't say that for many other stores in the oc/la area. step fresh, shop avenue........suckaaaaaa! read more
