Father and son captains Ted and Tim both will go out of their way to ensure your time with them is customized to the exact activities you want to do in the locations you want to see. We booked a tour with Captain Tim last week, and despite the chilly and overcast conditions, it was the highlight of our vacation. Tim has been navigating Lake George since he was in Elementary School, and his knowledge and love of the lake and its natural inhabitants was infectious. In our two hours together, Tim managed to show us many of the natural highlights that the narrows section of Lake George contain, took us to Paradise Bay and allowed my oldest son to try his hand at some fishing (the weather here was actually a blessing, as we had the entire Bay to ourselves!), took us over to Glen Island at my wife's request to rekindle some childhood memories, and even managed to gently coax my extremely anxious son out on to Super Mable for some tubing, which he absolutely loved. Our only regret was that we only booked for two hours. Bolton Boat Tours is a class operation. The 27' boats they run are well maintained and extremely clean. The bow seating is perfect for taking in the scenery of the Lake, and all of the safety equipment is top notch. Look, I spent 8 years as a Boatswain's Mate in the United States Coast Guard. I am completely comfortable and capable of piloting a small boat on my own. Despite that knowledge and ability, Captain Tim provided my family and I an experience that I would not have been able to recreate. In Lake George on vacation for the week with another family and our kids decided they wanted to go fishing, so we began frantically trying to find a place that would take our families and we were so lucky to have found this family run business who were able to squeeze us in. We called and left a message inquiring about a fishing charter. Their website said they could accommodate six people but we had seven. Mary returned our call and she was so pleasant to talk to and she said it wouldn't be an issue if all seven of us went. We did the 6-8 PM tour so in addition to fishing, we also got to see the sunset on the lake. The tours leave from the Treasure Cove Resort Motel and there are about four parking spaces for your vehicle. There's also a couple of port-o-potties that you can use if you need to. We had captain Ted, the father in this family-run business and he was awesome! The boat was clean and the high-speed ride out to where we were going to fish was a lot of fun. As long as you are under 16, you don't need a fishing license, but if you are 16 or over, you must supply your own fishing license. All of our kids were under the age of 16. He has four rods on board, which worked out perfectly since we had four kids with us. He uses fake worms and helped all of our kids with their rods, teaching them how to cast the line, etc. We caught 9 fish in total on our trip and he helped get all of them off the line and back into water after we had taken our pictures. Due to the winds on this trip, he had to move the boat around a number of times as we kept getting pushed into the shoreline but he was able to find spots where the fish were biting. While the kids were fishing, we had great conversations with him about his family, the history of the lake, etc. He even gave us a great restaurant recommendation, which we went to after our trip! We all had such a fantastic time and can't wait to come back. We will definitely be booking here again!! read more

This is a must for a quality and fun excursion while staying in Lake George. This was the first time our family used Bolton Boat Tours. We have taken many boat rides during our years vacationing in this area (about 15) and am sorry we were not aware of Bolton Boat Tours. This company is family owned and operated and customers reep the rewards! The phone is answered by one of the three family members, Ted, Tim or Mary. They are very pleasant to work with, are professional and efficient. They are true locals and offer a lot of knowledge and expertise about the area. We were scheduled for one boat ride but opted for two after the first was so successful. We were a party of nine, all adults, ranging in age from 20-59 and we all had a blast and were completely engaged in Captain Tim and Ted's telling of the Lake and some of it's history. They also knew great spots to swim, tube and cliff dive, all in a safe manner. The boats themselves were in pristine condition and the both rides were incredibly smooth. We were in Bolton Landing during the very crowded week of the 4th and were grateful to have Tim and Ted navigate the waters which were full of boaters and jet skiers! You won't want to miss a chance to ride with this crew! The boats are run from Treasure Cove and they have their own parking! HIGHLY RECOMMEND. This was a major highlight of our Lake George vacation. We've rented boats here ourselves in the past, but it's always stressful because you're worried about damage to the boat and about navigating the congestion on what has, over the years, become an extremely busy lake in terms of boat traffic. We had four adults (wife and me, in-laws) and our three kids - ages 6, 4, and 2. We booked a three hour tour (0800-1100) on a Tuesday; we booked online the day before. The booking experience was seamless. There's a "Book Now" button on the website. It walks you through choosing a date and time, letting you know availability in real time, which is great. No phone calls chasing flaky captains and staff, which has been a challenge for us with previous fishing trips on Lake George. We received several text messages from the company, first confirming the reservation and then providing helpful reminders. We arrived right on time, and we could see Captain Ted waiting for us. We had two large vehicles and there was ample space for us to park in Captain Ted's two large, designated spaces. Port-a-potties were available in the parking area. After a quick hello from Captain Ted to each member of our family, we hopped aboard the 20' Cobalt and were off on to the lake right at the designated start time. No waiting around for the Captain to fuel the boat, clean, etc. He was ready to go and we were, too. Once on the lake, Captain Ted told us what to expect: an 18 mile tour around the lake with tubing, cliff jumping (opportunity - no pressure), sightseeing, some history, and some swimming. Upon leaving Treasure Cove, we began tubing almost immediately as we headed north up the lake. The tube is a large, very comfortable Super Mable and Captain Ted's Cobalt has ample power to pull it pretty fast even with two average sized adults and one 6 year old. It would have been more than enough space for three large adults. It is like a big floating couch, but it's responsive enough so you get the fun of the bumps from the waves. Captain Ted is attentive to feedback from the people on the tube - when we wanted to go faster, we did, same for slower and stopping. All good, kids and adults had a BLAST. Mixed in with several sessions of tubing, we heard about the Lake's geography, history, and character of the locals. We spent time looking at underwater abandoned docks, boat-wrecks, and a famous movie star's amazing house! Cliff-diving was a highlight for me. It is a lot higher than it looks from the boat, but it was a blast to jump off the cliff that Captain Ted brings you to - definitely a memory. The winner for me was swimming in Paradise Bay. We had the Bay all to ourselves, and Captain Ted has noodles for people to use to float as well as tons of life jackets in all sizes. It was really peaceful to swim in the calm water (rare these days in most places along Lake George) surrounded by mountains, birds, and beauty. The kids loved the whole thing, as did we. Captain Ted is really good about maximizing the time on the water - there's virtually no dead time: except for the quick jog back in to return to the dock on time, you're either touring, tubing, swimming, hearing interesting history and local knowledge about the lake. read more

We had such a spectacular Lake George vacation last week. We love to go boating - dolphin cruises, speed boats especially and wave running. This time we booked a 2-hour trip with Captain Tim. This was honestly one of the best boat excursions ever. Captain Tim gave us and our kids the opportunity to swim in the beautiful lake, go cliff diving (our 11 year old son did it - pretty cool) and go tubing. My family and I took a boat tour with Captain Tim yesterday and it was without a doubt the highlight of our trip. The two hours flew by with fishing, swimming, tubing, and scenic routes. My 15 year old younger brother said this was "probably the best boat tour he's ever gone on." Captain Tim was extremely personable and kind. We took a 3 hour tour today with Captain Ted and had SUCH a blast. We had a party of ten gals out on the lake for my bachelorette. We towed a tube off the back of the boat, jumped off rocks, floated around in some cool coves and learned the history of Lake George. This was so wonderful! We love that this is a family business with mom, dad and son all involved and friendly. Everyone had a great time from the wild and furious teens to the relaxing 60 year olds in our group. Tim brought the teens out tubing ( the motor boat pulling a large round raft with three kids), jumping off a cliff as well as snorkeling in a quiet spot. Tim was very clear and kind about showing the kids how to be safe but still have a blast! For the older set we saw a variety of areas on the lake and learned history and stories related to the lake. I especially enjoyed seeing the areas of the lake where it was state owned, no buildings and people only allowed to stay over night via camping. We had the pleasure of using this company on Sunday, 7/15 to rent a boat for 2 hours for four passengers. We had Captain Tim (the owner's son) and he was such a personable, mature, and experienced captain/guide to Lake George. We had an excellent ride, learned a lot (but not too much!), and did tubing along the way. Tim is great at judging the crowd and customized the tour to our requests.
