Thank you to all the reviews that lead me here! You are heading in the right direction when it comes to finding a wedding dress in the metro-Detroit area if you're reading this. I was visiting my family and wanted my mom and sister to be part of the experience of saying 'yes to the dress' so I booked a last minute appointment to David's Bridal, thinking it was my only option last minute on a weekend day. After continuing my search anyway because I was nervous of the experience to come (and gosh was I right), I decided to find another bridal shop that could fit me in last minute. That's when I found Bombshell! When I called the shop, Stephanie answered and she was such a joy right from the start. We had called other shops that just laughed at my timeline and kind of complicated story, but not Stephanie. Instead, we laughed together and she assured me that I have just enough time - and even if I didn't, she could help make something work. She was able to fit me in on a Sunday morning at 10am. By the way, we talked for maybe 3 minutes on the phone and just immediately clicked. So after trying on about six dresses at David's Bridal with no luck but an idea of what I wanted, I was ready for my visit at Bombshell! When we get to Bombshell, we're greeted with two friendly smiles and a third from the office. Stephanie dove right in asking me for my budget, style preferences, and how to get to choosing. I pulled about four dresses and ended up trying on three. She said "I have the perfect dress for you!". I tried it on and we ALL fell in love. It truly was perfect. I did try on another that I ultimately said yes to when I left. But when I later second guessed my choice, I sent her a message and asked to pull the original one if still available. I mean, it was right off the rack and a near perfect fit. I just couldn't believe it! I truly felt like a bride from start to finish. She was so helpful in getting me dressed, hyping me up with my bride gang and most importantly, finding dressing WITHIN my budget. Now the one I chose was well outside of it but she worked very hard to meet me at the top of my budget since it was off the rack. We all (my niece and some of her bridal party) had such a wonderful experience here! So much so that this was the first of two appointments for dress shopping on the same day, and she canceled her other appt. She found the dress (actually the second one she tried on) and didn't see any need to go anywhere else. I think everyone else who goes dress shopping here will have the same experience. She chose Bombshell Bridal because she had heard good things, and it is locally owned. The shop is very cute inside, and beautifully decorated. They have a couple different more private and also beautifully decorated rooms you can choose if you want that experience. My niece had a vague idea of what she wanted and the associate that helped her found a bunch of options that she thought might work. She was very personable and seemed quite experienced in finding the perfect fit. They don't have a seamstress on site for alterations but they provide recommendations. I had a very poor experience with Bombshell Bridal from start to finish. The day of my appointment my consultant was late and didn't show up until I had already found my dress. My sister helped me the entire time with trying on dresses. The credit card reader would not accept $0 for a tip so we were forced to leave a tip for the consultant who wasn't even there to help us for the most important part of the appointment. My dress came in fine and beautiful, no issues there. I was told my veil and belt would be in two weeks later. After a month I called because I hadn't heard anything, my veil still hadn't arrived so they had to call the manufacturer. Once it arrived I was told I could come any time to pick it up. I drove there twice (about 20 min away) after looking at their hours online to find that the shop was closed because they chose to close early for the day. When I picked up my dress, they said they had an in shop seamstress and to contact them in early August for an appointment. I called first week of August and left a message to set up an appointment with their seamstress and received a text saying the best way to get a hold of her was to email her. Emailed the seamstress and hadn't heard back a week later so I called the shop and left a message asking if there was another way to contact her or someone else they could recommend and again, never heard back from the shop. Most times I called the shop, they did not answer, I would leave a message and would receive a text in return. I would not suggest this bridal shop to anyone. read more

I love this shop. I learned about bombshell bridal a few years ago when my best friend got married, but really got to experience it as my sister is getting married as our bridesmaid dresses are coming from there. The shop specializes in plus size bridal, but carries size 0-32 for bridesmaid dresses. As my sister has friends of all shapes and sizes, this was ideal for her, and many bridal stores do not do this. They have a wide selection of wedding and bridesmaid dresses. There were many different styles, colors and lengths for both bridal and bridesmaid. They also have a 'last chance' area where you can buy the sample. All of the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. They aren't judgmental, make you feel very comfortable in your own skin and are very body-positivity forward. It made the experience memorable in a stellar way. I cannot place enough value and emphasis on this. We went to many shops other where they were snooty and judgmental of the persons size, leaving members of the bridal party feeling negative about themselves. There was none of that here; we all left feeling good about ourselves. If I ever get married again, this will be the first place I look to find my dress and dresses for my bridal party. read more

I find it so strange that so many reviews are on here praising the customer service. When wedding dress shopping with my (now) wife, we went into Bombshell Bridal to look at dresses. When we entered, there weren't any workers even visible in the store. As we walked around looking, we continued to be ignored. Finally, we gave up and walked out. While we were walking out, there was a worker finally sitting at the desk (on her phone) who looked up at us and said "oh sorry, we are booked today." Booked today? This is a special place. I am a very confident plus size woman and have been shopping in such sections for my entire adult life. I have found stores such as lane Bryant, the ever-adored Torrid and the oh-so-unfortunate Catherine's and Dress Barn. When I got engaged, I was so excited to begin planning but I was worried that I wouldn't be given the chance to find my perfect dress because they wouldn't have a sample size to even fit over my hips. I called countless places and asked what I could try on in their stores (a bridal size 22), and most said they had a couple, one of which was always a return. Of course, everyone could order that size but I wouldn't be able to try it on....THEN I FOUND THIS PLACE. It's like opposite world, I walked the walls of dresses and basically threw my countless selections into the arms of my beloved stylist, Melissa. She was a dream to work with. I mean, truly. I can't give her all the credit though, she is absolutely a byproduct of her environment. They had a beautiful and diverse selection of dresses, all very moderately priced. I have to be honest and say that I didn't find MY dress here, but I tried on numerous styles to discover the look I was trying to achieve and it turned out to be a little too boring for this place. Wow! I came here from Chicago since my mom and sisters live in Ann Arbor area. I booked an appointment 5 months out not really realizing this boutique asks you to come 8-12 months out because they custom order your dress. So that being said I thought my choices may be limited. There many many options for a plus size bride. I had gone to a bridal chain just to see the day before and was very limited Debra was my stylist. She listened and we went through the dresses. She truly understood what I was looking for. I fell in love with not just one but 3 dresses. All gave me "that feeling." The one I chose was actually the one Debra knew I would choose. The great thing about it was that it was discontinued (I didn't even know until I picked it) and I was able to buy that dress off the rack. So no rushing or waiting on pins and needles for the dress. Went to this bridal shop because I heard so many things about this location. Initially, when walking into the bridal salon for my appointment I was greeted very dryly. I apologized for being 7 to 8 minutes late to my appointment due to traffic. The young lady, then proceeds to tell me to start picking out dresses without getting my ideal type of dress. She didn't ask no questions nothing at all. I began picking out dresses within my budget and transported them to the dressing room. Each dress I tried on she didn't even help to assist. I went to Bombshell Bridal yesterday to get a wedding dress because the one I had already bought was a little too small. A woman named Debra helped me. Omg she was the most sweetest person I have ever met. I had been there once before and had a bad experience. That person is no longer there. Debra couldn't apologize enough to me for the bad experience I had. After trying on a couple of dresses and them not fitting because I'm on the larger side, Debra gave me a phone number to someone who could add a panel into my dress I already bought so I could wear my dress!! I'd given Bombshell 5 stars because they had a great selection, made me feel welcome, and helped me find my dress. From there it got... messy. My dress came in late. The sash had a brown stain on it. But the real problem was - the dress was several sizes too small. My measurements hadn't changed, so it wasn't me. Bombshell had just recommended the wrong size for me to purchase. In the end, Bombshell took the dress back and I had to find an entirely new dress with just a few months to go until my wedding. The dress I was able to find that late in the game did not ultimately make me happy. The entire experience was thus disappointing. How did such a mistake happen? My understanding is that Bombshell ordered me a dress in what we'll call size X; my bust was smaller than X, my hips were larger, so the idea was to meet in the middle. But I learned that dresses don't work that way. You can take a dress in all you want, but you can only take it out so much. And the size Bombshell ordered was in fact SO small on my hips that there was no saving it. There was not enough material to take it out. Bombshell handled this blunder well for the most part. They instantly saw the error and said they'd make it right. They contacted the dress manufacturer. I was told that if I wanted the dress, they would make me a new one in whatever size I asked for and it would be the very next dress off the line. But at that point my wedding was so soon. What if the dress was late again? Would there be time for alterations after that? I talked to the seamstress I'd be working with and she said there was very little room for error there. Even a few days late and she wouldn't be able to complete the work in time for my wedding. I also learned that the dress's open back that Bombshell had so confidently assured me would be easy to solve with the right bra was actually a bit of an impossible puzzle. I wear a 36G bra. There is no good, backless bra that comes in 36G. So even if I got the correct-sized dress on time, could the back issue be solved? Why did a dress shop not know this would be such a problem; this is really within their purview. Or did they know it but want to close a sale? Regardless, this added piece meant that even if the dress came in on time, even if the seamstress could fit me in for alterations... what would come of the bra issue? Like I said, it got messy. In the end, there were too many IFs. I asked Bombshell to take the dress back. They agreed. We parted ways. I found a new shop. But since it was too late to order a new dress, I shopped from the warehouse (dresses that people had been trying on). This meant I had to find a dress that could be tailored... there was no ordering a new dress in whatever size at that point. I found something I was okay with, but I didn't love it the way I loved the dress I ordered from Bombshell. The style just wasn't me. Yesterday was our 6-month anniversary, and even now I find that I am still sad about the dress. The dress I bought from Bombshell was *me.* I knew it the second I put it on; I didn't even need to look in the mirror. Those months that the manufacturer was making the dress... I spent those months imagining wearing it. Feeling beautiful in it. Feeling like myself. Before trying it on I hadn't been able to picture myself walking down the aisle, even, but with that dress things somehow came together. It felt amazing. But then I couldn't wear that dress through no fault of my own; so I feel like I was cheated. I feel like I came SO close... like everything came together when I walked through Bombshell's doors and suddenly this impossible thing - me feeling beautiful in a wedding dress - was possible. But then it all unraveled in a way I couldn't control and couldn't fix. So how do I rate Bombshell? Is the single star unfair? Should I average the 5 and 1 to make 3? I maintain that Bombshell welcomed me in a way that remains impressive, that they run a gorgeous shop that gives plus-size women the shopping experience they deserve. I maintain that Bombshell was professional from beginning to end. All good things. But I just can't shake the feeling that ultimately a wedding dress shop has a single job: to get you the dress that you choose. And they failed at that for me. read more

Every girl should have an awesome story about how their wedding dress came to be. They have shows on TV about it, special bells installed at big box stores... it's a moment many families cry over and laugh over and rejoice over. Now. I've been to the stores... you know the ones. A bridal store named after a man. That doesn't even make any sense, does it? I had been there before because where I come from, we went and picked out bridesmaid dresses to wear to homecoming and prom dances. So, every time I ever went there, I went alone because I was too embarrassed about my body size to go with my friends and face the very real possibility that if they even have anything in my size, that it would be some totally awful dress you get for your 40 year old cousin that is in your wedding. Do you know what I mean? It's always been that way. That, or it's only mother of the bride dresses on the rack where your size is. I face very real anxiety when it comes to this experience. For prom and homecoming... who cares. Eventually you find something you like and it doesn't even matter. But for your wedding? You are the belle of that ball and you should have exactly what you want. So, I envision myself going into That Guy's Bridal shop and telling a girl my size and she brings me 3 crusty, matronly dresses and tries to sell me on them. Many women struggle with fashion and I have always strongly believed that dressing plus sized women is a relatively untapped market. In the recent past we've gotten some nice clothing companies who cater to our beautiful bodies and make clothes that fit us, rather than accommodate us... and that is great! But when it comes to the one day in my life where EVERYONE will be looking at ME... it has to be even more than that. Right? Well, I didn't want that to be my experience. I wondered if after all this time, somebody finally made a shop that is friendlier to girls of girth. I asked around in a few wedding forums and I was referred to Bombshell Bridal. I could tell right away just from their website that it was the place I wanted to be. They are about a 45 minute drive from my house, but I still have this anxiety about being in the spotlight and there not being something that works for me. So, I went out to check the place out and met Debra. She greeted me as I came in the door and not long after that we were like a couple of schoolgirls chatting about my wedding plans. She made me feel comfortable even though I have not decided some of the plans and gave me the space to check out some dresses on my own without making me feel pressured. Space, but before I could feel overwhelmed, there she was to gently ask if I needed anything or had questions. Debra and I made an appointment together to try on dresses with my mom. She helped me into probably a dozen dresses and each time we collaborated on what we liked and disliked about each dress. It seems like such a little thing... but being insecure about being in a bra with a stranger and being overweight, it was such a magical experience to have this time with Debra. She helped me feel totally comfortable and we talked about body issues and how the dresses accentuated my body in good ways and bad. The cherry on top? Debra gave me a sweet folder with information about my purchase inside and it includes "an official Bombshell Bridal pink bow" hair clip. I don't know... This place is like heaven for curvier brides. After a visit to a major chain bridal store which ended in tears, I found my way to bombshell. Let me tell you, these ladies are fabulous!! I didn't initially find my dress in the shop, which just shows how ridiculous I am because they have a large and lovely inventory. I did, however, find a dress that I loved and went to them with a name and style number and they were able to order it for me! While it was scary to order a dress that I've never tried on, they carefully took my measurements and assured me that it would be lovely on my body type and even let me try on something with a similar silhouette. After reading about other the trials and tribulations of other plus size brides, including disrespectful treatment and lack of samples in plus-sizes, I was determined to create a different experience for myself. I did not want my long awaited wedding dress shopping to be ruined. After some google magic, I came across Bombshell Bridal. I loved their website and \their thoughts on how EVERY woman deserves a magically experience, regardless of size. I ran the idea past my mom and sister, and we agreed that a road trip was in order. Bombshell Bridal is everything I had hoped for and more. The ladies in the shop are lovely, especially Debra, my consultant, with whom I immediately hit it off. The owner, Amanda, was on site and is very accommodating. The business is family owned and run and everyone is wonderful. The atmosphere is the shop is warm and welcoming, there is no pretension and there are plenty of opinions (if you want them). When I checked in with Debra to see how we were doing with time, she told me not to worry about it. There is a large selection of beautiful gowns, even at budgets $1000 and under. There is also a gorgeous selection of discontinued gowns that can be bought off the rack "as-is". I probably tried on 20 gowns. I received construction feed back from my consultant, did not hear a negative word from anyone and was shushed when I commented on my imperfections. I had the fortunate problem of having many dresses that looked good... but none of them felt quite like "the dress." When I asked Debra if I'd really know when I found "the dress," she encouraged me that I would...even if it wasn't purchased from Bombshell. Ultimately, I found "the dress". It is on order and I'm already looking forward a return road trip - possibly with some bridesmaids - to pick it up and visit the ladies of Bombshell Bridal again. I cannot recommend enough that anyone who has concerns about ANY body image issues, who is plus sized or wants a laid back bridal gown experience visit Bombshell Bridal. I live in Phoenix, Arizona (born and raised in Troy) and my fiancé and I made a quick trip back to Michigan at the end of January. We literally were there for 48 hours and had to visit with 7 vendors for our October wedding. I really wanted to have my mom be able to experience dress shopping since I'm the oldest of 3 and the first one to get married. I had already been dress shopping out here in Phoenix once and being a plus size woman, you all know it's hard to find quality and quantity. The owner, Amanda was so accommodating with our tight schedule (we flew back to Phoenix that same night we went to the store) and Deborah was the one who helped me find my dress. The quantity of dresses and the quality of dresses really blew me away. I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting to find my dress since I was flying back but I did! Before I even began the search for a dress for my May 2017 wedding, a friend who recently got married recommended Bombshell. Then, another friend did. And another. With 3 recommendations, I decided that Bombshell was worth the 3 hour drive. Upon entering, we were warmly greeted and my stylist, Julie, was kind and did all she could to calm my nerves. Being a 'big girl' I was really worried about finding something to fit, but Bombshell's selection was outstanding! There was really something for every shape and size. Once I found my dress (only the third I tried on!), Julie brought out champagne for a toast and accommodated my maid of honor, mother and future mother-in-law by taking all the photos requested (no easy task!). My sister purchased her bridal gown from Bombshell so we were ecstatic to find out they were bringing back bridesmaid dresses! We had a terrible experience at another bridal salon looking for bridesmaid dresses that unfortunately put a damper on what should of been a special moment. However, from the moment we walked in the door of Bombshell it was a world of difference and we received the best customer service. After visiting a few other bridal shops and being less than thrilled... I was definitely skeptical that a shop would have more than 2 designs in my size. From the second my Mom, bestie and I walked into Bombshell, I felt at home and like these were my people! The owner had reached out to me on a facebook forum but I had already booked an appointment based on some reviews I had read. My consultant Britney was an absolute dream. She made me feel like a princess in every single dress I tried on! (and believe me it was a lot). I had a vision of what I should wear on my wedding day... however the very first dress I tried on was the complete opposite of that vision... yet it was PERFECTION. Me being the logical... "but this is my plan" type of Leo person.... I probably tried on 20 dresses after that. Brit was so patient and accommodating... and the other girls in the shop were so supportive and complimentary and genuine about wanting to help me find the perfect dress. Finally... after putting that first dress back on... there were tears and hugs and champagne and more tears and I really could not be happier! These ladies know their stuff and are passionate about their mission. Im in the bridal industry myself as a hairdresser and I only can strive to make each of my brides feel as special as the ladies at Bombshell make their brides feel! I'm so glad that I took my friends advice and went to bombshell! After striking out with chain stores and feeling pretty crummy about myself, and my size, I made the call and set an appointment at Bombshell for a Saturday. Julia was patient and kind with me as I'm not a very decisive bride, and overall stressed out by the whole thing. She made me feel comfortable and laugh! Something I didn't experience at any other place! I found my dress and cannot wait to walk down the isle as a Bombshell bride! I returned last week to order my bridesmaid dresses and that was another great experience! They made both of my bridesmaids happy, which can be hard to do! We left with smiles even more excited than before! Thank you ladies! We're big fans of the store and the stellar customer service offered. I just left Bombshell Bridal Boutique after saying YES to my dress. They have so many different styles, colors and fits. When i scheduled my appointment online, it was not even 24 hours after that I received a phone call. The phone call was reassuring and made me comfortable, it was all about me and my ideal style. When I walked into the building for my appointment I was greeted right away by smiling polite faces. Amber was my stylist, she was awesome! Never once did she give her opinion about the dress I was trying on. Her first question was always "How do you feel about this one?". I love that she wanted my opinion prior to her telling me what she thought about the dress. I have gone wedding dress shopping with other brides, and as soon as they had a dress on the stylist would start pushing them to buy it no matter what it looked like. When I found my dress and started crying, even Amber started crying. The boutique was clean and tastefully decorated. Thank you Amber and Bombshell Bridal for making me ugly cry and letting me take my time. I would highly recommend this boutique to anyone!!!! read more

It's my first time shopping for wedding dresses and I was really looking forward to going here but my experience was not what I expected. I told the girl my budget and that I was willing to adjust if I found my dream dress. I really wanted to try on the Cinderella dress and asked the price, it was over budget but I still wanted to try it on because if I loved it I would raise my price. She gave me a little attitude but Obliged, I asked to try on corsets with the dresses I'm only a size 18-22 and the largest corset was too small and needed extra length put in...how does a large women's store not carry large corsets? This is a specialty store for big women you would think that they would carry corsets up to sizes 36 since that's around the largest dress size but nope better off going to lovers lane and bringing your own corsets. The dress sizes they had to try on were also very small only a few were 18 but most only went up to size 16 and the lady blamed it on the vendor show. I was less impressed when I started trying on dresses and she just stood there not fluffing the trains out so I could see how long they were or what was on them, by the third dress my future mother in law and sister in law started fluffing them because they were upset they could not see anything either. After about 4 dresses I finally found one I liked but it had a stain on the front another employee told the lady to wipe it with a baby wipe to see if it was deodorant or something that would come off...she said she would do it but just stood there staring at me then said "ready to take it off?" She never wiped off the stain and I really liked the dress. After that I tried on a couple more dresses and found one that I got excited about and keep smiling and talking about adding some sparkle sleeves, instead of grabbing a veil and tiara she stood there and my mother in law had to ask for them ; all she did was turn off the lights to see some sparkle which should of been the last thing she should of done. I ended up not buying the dress and leaving after an hour. I was just not impressed and more disappointed that the laziness. read more

This place really let me down. As a plus size woman, several people recommended this place for my wedding dress. But unfortunately I really didn't find anything I liked here and I found their prices to be higher than other wedding dress stores. read more

I had such a wonderful experience here both times I came to shop! The consultants are very knowledgeable and kind. I felt like these women really listened to me and what I was looking for. I didn't feel pressured to buy, either. They have lots of happy customers, just look at the walls of their dressing rooms! Completely covered with glowing testimonials from so many different women. I could tell the salespeople don't just see this as a job, but a calling. They really do care, and they have such a gift for customer service that I was really bummed out not to find a dress here! I am right in between straight and plus size, and at most straight-size boutiques I found it really depressing to try on dress after dress in tiny samples that I couldn't even zip. Another bonus? They let you take pictures! That made a world of difference, especially for a visual person with a terrible memory like me I can't even tell you how much these women have done for the self-esteem of us average American women. I was absolutely blown away by Bombshell Bridal!!! Buying a wedding dress is an experience and Bombshell exceeded all of my expectations. We booked the private suite, had champagne flowing, cookies and enough seating for my family. Stephanie was my stylist for the day. Everyone at Bombshell made me feel welcomed, supported, cared about and they made me feel special. I didn't feel like another "sale" or just another bride. I have been to other people's wedding dress shopping appointments and Bombshell was like none of them. Other places make you feel rushed, don't talk to your guests, don't ask you questions getting to know you, aren't friendly, don't have enough seats for the bride's people and are sales oriented instead of people oriented. Bombshell is people oriented 1000%. They actually care about their customers. You can feel their joy and happiness. I didn't try any other dress shop, I put all my eggs in Bombshells basket and I am SO happy I did. read more

Being a plus sized bride I was nervous trying dresses on and didn't know what to expect. I loved my experience at Bombshell Bridal! I was their last appointment and felt bad for keeping them past closing time. Britney assured me she was there to help me and she never made me feel anything less than a friend! I loved working with her and Britney made the whole dress trying on process enjoyable for not only me but my bridal party too.
